Pshabi, you took the words right out of my mouth, except for that paltry amount you mentioned :D.

TP, congratulations again. Hopefully your well coordinated uniform will bring some more members at this years WSOP to this forum.

PShabi 07-14-05 10:34 AM

I had 10,000 at first, but I figured I could make it a little more realistic. I figured I had a better chance to take advantage of TP's euphoria.

badblood44 07-14-05 11:04 AM

TP - Great job!!! I'm trying to keep my levels of envy down to managable levels.

When you finally get all caught up, make a thread dedicated to all the pix you took, I'd extremely interested in seeing them.

Thanks in advance!

Zybomb 07-14-05 11:15 AM

Amazing finish -- it sucks this event wont be on TV, Id be interested to hear what ESPNs "superstar" commentators think of your play. Great job though and nice cash

I definately hope to be in Vegas for some of the series next year.

omahilo 07-14-05 12:03 PM

TP... or anyone who wants to share their opinion.

Do you think poker will continue to grow and the ME will get bigger from the time you have spent covering the ME and talking to people, etc?

Talking Poker 07-14-05 03:07 PM

Thanks.... How about some props in that blog of yours? ;) We could use a little new blood around here, so maybe a mention would send some people over.

As for the pics, I'll post galleries of large images on the main part of the site like I did last year, but I'll pick and choose seom for a thread too, probably. It will be at least a week, I'm guessing.

drewjax 07-14-05 03:44 PM

Well done! Congrats!

reTry 07-14-05 04:20 PM

So when are you coming out with a book? :D

Congrats on making it that far! Can't imagine the feeling

BrianSwa 07-14-05 07:58 PM

nice job

cant say im suprised, I thought you would do good. Not saying I knew you where gonna final table but saying from what ive seen how you play in the past figured you would have a good showing. Just think about it you just final tabled a WSOP event, I can't even comprehend how that must feel.

Nice job TP, I cant wait until next year when you win it.

Talking Poker 07-14-05 08:06 PM

Thanks.

It feels awesome. This was a huge boost for my tournement confidence. It's been a while since I've had a really nice finish in a tourney (online, of course). I go fairly deep more often than not, but I never quite seem to make it to the big money. It always seems like some ridiculous beat ends up crippling me or finishing me off, but at some point, you have to stop making excuses and start re-evaluating if you are a good tourney player or not. I was honestly thinking about cutting way back on tourneys and sticking to cash games, where I have a proven track record.... but thanks to this, not only am I well ahead in lifetime tourament play now, but I've got the itch to play more :D

I've also got 320 Player of the Year points now!

I feel like I've got to play in another couple of qualifying events sometime this year. I've final tabled in 50% of the qualifying events I've played in now. LOL...

Talking Poker 07-14-05 09:39 PM

Sorry, I missed this question until now.

This came up while I was sitting with Robert Williamson III. I gave my opinion on it, and he agreed with me 100%. We both feel poker will continue to grow, but he rate of it's growth will slow. In other words, it will keep growing, but not as fast as it has been. Hoe many players will be in next year's Main Event? I have noidea. Right now, I'll guess 7000-7500. But in 3 6, or 9 months, I may have very differnt answers for you...

lightfungus 07-14-05 09:39 PM

Hell yes we are! My laptop broke or something so I am at my girlfriends house and was dying to read this and see how you did.

P.S. Here, here on that freeroll :D

Gordogg 07-14-05 09:50 PM

Congrats TP!! That really is amazing. 44k is a nice chunk of change. Did you have to pay half to taxes on the spot? I'm happy for you man. I wish you more success in future events.

BlibbityBlabbity 07-14-05 09:54 PM

Better start collecting losing lottery scratch tickets from the 7 eleven parking lot to offset that 40K.... :D

Talking Poker 07-14-05 10:36 PM

Nope, I got the whole thing. In casino chips. I've never touched a $5000 chip before, and last night they handed me 8 of them (and then some). Crazy, huh?

Taxes are going to be interesting. Since just over half of this money will be going to my backer, I should be able to write that much off.... Now I need to come up with another $20k in gambling "losses" this year to off set the rest.

sea 07-14-05 11:00 PM

Congratulations!

Good for you! I couldn't be any happier for you. :D

Dante1963 07-14-05 11:47 PM

Well done, TP! Well done!

Winning $44k and hanging with Shannon Elizabeth...not a bad week, all in all.

Aequitas58 07-15-05 12:15 AM

From a tax perspective, since this was a joint venture, you shouldn't bear the weight of paying all the taxes. Make sure your backer pays the taxes on his percentage. (For some reason, I doubt he'll mind!)

I suggest visiting an accountant before submitting next year's taxes, just to be on the safe side.

drewjax 07-15-05 12:18 AM

Congrats again to our leader. AND I almost forgot. There is someone else trying to steal your girl. I followed the ME for a bit at pokertrails.com. Whoever that guy is, he is also claiming to have a thing with lovely Miss Shannon!! Whats the deal? Ho, in the house or what, lol..............

Talking Poker 07-15-05 12:30 AM

My backer is a big Jennifer Tilly fan. So he's got an autographed TP.com hat coming to him with his fat check (she played in this event too). Nice touch, eh? :)

Talking Poker 07-15-05 12:31 AM

Oh, I'll be visiting an accountant this week. Don't you worry about that.

JDMcNugent7 07-15-05 02:47 AM

Freakin Awesome

That is so Freakin Awesome- I'm gonna tell all people that i "kinda" know a guy that got 6th in the WSOP and won over 40k. I wish i could see you playing on T.V. but thats still just awesome.

How many hours a day did you guys play ?

Talking Poker 07-15-05 04:25 AM

I wish it was televised too. I was quite pleased with both my final table play (considering my short stack), and the way I conducted myself.

You guys will see me on tv someday. Go ahead and mark my words right now, if you like.

We played 14ish hours the first day (down to 27 players), and I survived for about 8 hours on Day 2. It's funny, I had a not so great night's sleep before Day 1, but even after 14 hours of play (minus the dinner break), I had plenty of poker left in me. I could have easily gone another few hours.

Dante1963 07-15-05 09:23 AM

Mmmmm, Jennifer Tilly.....

Excuse me, I have to go watch that scene from "Bound" again.

:D

SirSpeedy 07-15-05 10:38 AM

ESPN Bee-atches

TP, I did not tell you at the time, but I DID go over to the head ESPN producer right when they were breaking for the night at 27 and you guys were down to 7. I told him, Hey I know you guys are busy, but we have a media person still in the final table of the World Series event down in the corner. He told me "It's tough man, the event down there is anti-climactic compared to the Main Event, so we aren't really interested. Maybe if Hellmuth was going for his 10th down there we would cover it."

I thought about explaining to him that there were not any pros at that table because our "MEDIA" guy had outlasted them all, but it seemed like a moot point.

Also, I'll fess up to being the silly one who told you to push in with a face card, the suited connector did the trick!
