Wow, over $15K now donated by 2+2 forums!!  to all who have donated |
OMG, I just saw the previews for the next episode of HSP, and I'm 95% sure that the chubby black haired guy that is on the next HSP show is the same guy that I bluffed reraise with 28o at the PCA.
|
Actually, it's $35k.
|
I'm a little behind right now (remember, I don't get GSN), so I'm only now watching last week's episode.
Elezra - QQ Farha - K4 Flop - QTT Turn and River are running 6s, and it goes check check twice. $12k in the pot. Sammy checks, and Eli bets $20k, which I thought was ridiculous. Then Sammy CALLS WITH KING HIGH??? Is this one of those situations where I'm supposed to just realize that I'm a poker moron compared to these guys.... or.... um..... WTF??? |
Farha is a huge donator.
|
Wow - that is one big thread. I can't even get it to show me all the pages without freezing up on me. Gotta love it.
Anyone care to summarize? Has Barry chimed in, or has this been totally organized by 2+2ers with someone keeping a running tally of individual donations made? FWIW, I like , myself. |
Some good hands in last night's episode, make sure to check it out when it hits YouTube TP.
I hope Brian Townsend learns how to handle chips before his next appearance. Watching him fumble around was painful. |
I'm a week behind, but I think Brian is playing well. IMO, Sammy looks like an idiot - not just because he keeps getting his money in bad - but because his reads are way off too. He's made a couple of comments about Brian's play, and I have no idea what he is talking about. Also, that huge hands that sbrugby got involved in vs. Paul Wasicka, he made that big laydown with AT. Sammy indicated that he would have instacalled - and donked off another quarter million, if he even had that much sitting in front of him.
Paul's play seems pretty transparent to me. No way is he putting it all in there with a heart draw. I would have put him on a set of 7s too. |
Yeah, as BL said, Sammy has been like a leaky sieve. To me he just looks like the stereotypical degenerate gambler that plays every hand he's dealt hoping to get lucky. I'm sure some of the moves he pulls work against the typical rich moron that comes to Vegas to play poker, but against these players he's going to get (and is getting) hammered.
|
This is my guess too. I haven't been impressed with Eli's play either, but it's certainly working against Sammy.
Let's put i this way, if Jamie Gold was playing EXACTLY like either of these guys, I think everyone would be saying he's the worst player in the world, etc, etc... but because they are who they are, they get cut some slack. Negreanu/Lindgren/Antonio all play a lot of hands (well, not so much Lindgren), but they don't play them stupid. They see a lot of flops, yes, but they pick good spots to make plays, and don't just throw their money around without good reason. Meanwhile, Wasica is the other extreme, obviously playing very scared. Harman/Dolye/Barry seem to be somewhere in the middle, with a really good balance. Just my :twocents: |
Lindgren is bad.
Negranaeu is a good hand reader, but his bet sizing sucks. And, I'm assuming you have not watched Jamie Gold play this season on HSP because his play lends credence to him being called more awful than any other player that was ever played on that show. |
No, I saw him. And he was as awful as I've ever seen on tv.
Actually, last night I caught a rerun of him on Late Night Poker (I hadn't seen it the first time around), and his play was..... just...... TERRIBLE. I mean, it was so bad. He tried running a bluff against Doyle with 54 once (no pair, no draw). Check check flop (Dolyle had TP). Check (min) raise turn. Lead at river for like 2000 (20-25% of the pot). Doyle called, of course, but before he could even get his money in there, Jamie did his donkish "Oh, you got it" thing. He's a complete tool at the table. Worst M.E. winner ever. He makes Moneymaker look like a poker hall of famer. |
REALLY, Wow. Even that much better. I just saw the 15K when I was clicking around the Childrens Inc. website.
The wife and I would really like to sponsor a child.....some day in the not too distant future:o |
Wasika is playing much better now.
He has kept a tight image and been able to bluff a few pots. |
Gabe Kaplan is far and away the best poker announcer I have ever heard. Sooooo far beyond those WSOP schmucks and the slicked back hair WPT deuche....he came out with a book btw, the WPT dude, can he even play poker?
|
I strongly disagree with you here. I think Negreanu and Lederer are much better, from the limited time I've heard them. I don't like his show, but Chad Brown is a pretty decent commentator too. I'll put Mike Sexton above Gabe, as well, but I think those two are close. Actually, I think I prefer Gabe. Phil Gordon could be really good, but he's got nothing to work with commenting on celebrities donking about.
Vince Van Patten (the WPT dude) and both ESPN guys I could live without though, for sure. |
I guess I should have been more clear. Gabe Kaplan is the most entertaining commentator [for the intermediate poker player]. I don't need to hear theory or opinions from Lederer or Sexton as an adept poker player myself. Most of their commentary is closer to the rudimentary level than something I learn from or am interested in. I will agree Gordon is close to Gabe as a nice mixture of entertainment and theoretical commentary...I kinda forgot about Gordon. Gabe just cracks me up.
|
I'm starting to think I'm the only person out there that actual likes Norman Chad's commentary.
|
I liked him when I was a fish too.
|
I like Chad, too, just because he's so goofy he's actually funny sometimes. VVP, too on occaision. I'm not listening to these guys to learn how to play, they're just the sideshow. None of them make any comments that should be taken too seriously. They see all the cards. |
Back when "Pardon the Interruption" first came out, Norman Chad used to be a regular (i.e. once-a-week) guest on the show during the "Five Good Minutes" part. I don't catch PTI like I used to, and I often wonder if Chad still makes occasional appearances on there. Anyhow, every time he was on, he was absolutely fucking hilarious. In fact, part of the reason I even started watching and caring about the WSOP (this was during the Moneymaker year) was because Norman Chad was the host.
|
|
Norman Chad is never on PTI anymore, and he was pretty bad at arguing about sports.
|
Look, I am an unbiased third party, and it is obvious to me that every Floridian man (read candy-ass bitch) would get his face stomped by the average South Dakotian woman. And Boobie has to be at least half as tough as the average woman in his state.
|
He was never on there to provide a serious commentary about the issues. He was a comedian, pure and simple, a change of pace from the usual litany of coaches, journalists and players.
|
Back to the lab with your weak-ass cheese-head smack.
|
Exactly. And that's the only thing I get out of him during the WSOP broadcasts, comedic entertainment... certainly not his commentary on poker.
|
i cannot beleive the plays these guys make, so many of them make no sense. also the announcers are completely wrong with their commentary so often it's ridiculous.
i really feel like a regular at 25/50 could beat this game. |
ya i can't stand watching televised poker.
Everyone plays so bad and the action is so slow. |
Personally, I'd find HSP much more interesting if it were $2000/$4000 limit stud.
|
I feel like a winning player at 3/6 would beat this game.
|
If the commentary is already horrible at NLHE, imagine the clusterfuck it would be with this game.
|
maybe i dont really get the whole "Running it twice" thing, but why would Lindgren want to run it twice when he has
TT on a 36T board with 2 hearts, and gets it all in vs Harmans AK of hearts when he's like a 65% favorite. |
It's the same EV. Running it once or twice doesn't change how big of a favorite you are, just makes their expected hourly return lower since this takes more time.
|
Well, it lowers *short term* variance. You'll have more chopped pots, less 100% bad beats, and so on.
I'm indifferent. |
Reminder: Ep. 9 tonight.
|
FWIW, I've been playing closer attention to Gabe, and I do like his commentary a lot.
|
I'm fairly certain that Illya Trincher is that guy. I'll assess it at about 85% that he is the guy.
|
First 8 minutes of Ep. 10... DN limps w/JJ and then QQ and Harmitz limps w/AK. I'm not getting this.
|
Interesting Ep. 11 hand…
Blinds @ $300/$600 D. Williams limps UTG with A:d:3:d: Ivey raises to $3,000 in MP with Q:s:Q:c: J’Dags calls on the button with 7:s:4:s: Negreanu calls out of the BB with 6:d:4:d: Williams calls (pot = $13,100) Flop: 5:c:T:d:8:d: Negreanu & Williams check Ivey bets $10,000 J’Dags folds Negreanu calls Williams calls (pot = $43,100) Turn: 6:s: Negreanu & Williams check Ivey bets $28,000 Negreanu calls Williams calls (pot = $127,100) River: 6:c: Negreanu & Williams check Ivey asks Williams how much he has left (Williams: “about $40K”) Ivey checks Negreanu wins with trip 6s. Any comments on how this hand played out? |
I think Negraneau's river check was weak unless he planned on check/folding to an Ivey bet. Betting the river there seems sort of mandatory since it might get looked up by Ivey with JJ+ while Ivey betting that into two players might not happen, and it is sort of obvious that D. Williams missed a draw and i doubt he is going to bluff into two people.
|
That's what puzzled me too... why did DN check the river?
|
DN is way too passive overall in this game imo. I think he need to be more aggressive instead of constantly floating flops with bottom pair etc. Raise it up for chirst sakes at least sometimes.
SPOILER*********************************** Anyone see yesterdays episode? I just saw part 1 on you tube. Brad Booth makes a sick bluff with 4 high lol. All he had was a gutshot and a backdoor flush draw. I wish the rest of this episode was up on youtube. |
|
I can't remember if it was this weeks or last weeks, but I got a chuckle from Gabes comment. "And David Williams insta-calls". Don't know why I found that funny.
Thanks for the links Fungus, this table is just sick. I gotta say over all the 3 seasons I think the Magician has played a lot better then I thought he would. He's got some game. |
today's episode was pretty good, although the AJ vs Gabe mock hatred banter is getting thin.
And speaking of thinly veiled mancrushes, I figured out why TP was so keen on Patrick A. TP :h: PA TLA |
I don't get it. :o
But I do agree with you about the mock hatred thing. It's been annoying me for 2-3 weeks now. Enough, girls. |
there is nothing to get. You have talked about how good you think the guy is and then he turns out to be a hunky man-boy, all shirt unbuttoned showing some smooth chest. Nevermind the tarted-up ladies in the background, my panties got a little moist everytime he was on screen. And, for the record, I think Gabe's did too.
|
I haven't seen this week's episode yet. Watch him play for a while and you'll see that he's even dreamier than you think now.
What's "TLA" though? Wait - True Love Always or some shit like that? |
This thread is starting to go down a very dark path.
