So, just confirm to me guys, to hedge Steelers -4.5, I need to throw money on the Dolphins +4.5? Is this accurate?

PShabi 08-28-06 08:30 PM

Hedge Shmedge. Let's go Steel Curtain!!!!

Talking Poker 08-28-06 09:09 PM

This was my plan too, but if you think about it a bit more, by hedging, you are guaranteed to win $500ish. So, by not hedging, you are really making a $500 bet on the Steelers (you'll end with either $0 or $1000). And I'm not sure I want to bet $500 on the Steelers on Week 1.

lightfungus 08-29-06 12:30 AM

How do I hedge? And do I make the bet first and hedge later?

JDMcNugent7 08-29-06 12:42 AM

make the 1100 bet on mansions sports book.
do not make a hedge bet there.
if u want to hedge do it on another site. - if u do them both on mansion the bonus is cancelled.

to hedge u just bet on the dolphins to guarentee a profit.

GeoffM 08-29-06 12:53 AM

Well, you have to bet at a certain spread, can't just bet any point spread.

lightfungus 08-29-06 01:10 AM

What spread would that be, I like the idea of guaranteed money. I also have no idea how Miami is going to come out, nor if the steelers will come out lazy.

Windbreaker 08-29-06 02:24 AM

It depends on what line you bought Pitts at.

If you bought Pitts at -5, you have to bet Miami +5.5 to properly hedge this bet....(this will guarantee a profit if you bet anything reasonable - because if Pitts wins by exactly 5...you will push both bets and have no winnings/loses).

The problem with the ppl that bought at Pitts -5 is that the line is moving the other way.....it looks like most bookmakers are going to Pitts -4. Which means to get Miami +5.5, you're going to have to give up a lot of juice.

If you bought Pitts -4.5. To properly hedge and guarantee profit you want to bet on Miami at +4.5 or higher.

If people have yet to place a bet yet...I would wait for Mansion's line to drop to -4 and follow most of the sports books out there. In that case, you would have to bet on Miami at +4.5 or higher to properly hedge.

Talking Poker 08-29-06 08:25 AM

The only problem with waiting is Mansion could pull this offer off the table and you may miss the whole thing.

GeoffM 08-29-06 09:43 AM

Mansion is still at 4.5. The book I started using (canbet) is at 4 already. If it moves another .5 to 4.5 I think I will end up hedging this bet. I have a bonus to clear at canbet anyway so if the Steelers don't cover, I win money and gain more clearance toward my bonus.

lightfungus 08-29-06 11:10 AM

I just took a beating from neteller instacash (8.9%!!!!), but I am in! So now I have to decide about hedging...I should be able to do that all the way up until the game at any sportsbook right?

2Tone 08-29-06 12:38 PM

IGM-Pay solution

I haven’t for sure decided if I’m doing this, but here’s where Party’s IGM-Pay can really come in handy. Money goes from bank account into Party via IGM-Pay instantly. Play one hand at Party, then cash out to Neteller, and the money will be there in a matter of hours.

GeoffM 08-29-06 12:46 PM

That is sweet. I never did determine whether or not I could get IGMpay, as I am a Canadian resident.

MAYHEM45 08-30-06 07:19 PM

Phew. Im in. GO PITTSBURG.

JDMcNugent7 09-01-06 01:47 PM

is anyone else gonna have their "mom and dad" sign up for this bet as well?
i cant find anything against sending to the same address.

GeoffM 09-01-06 01:51 PM

I need to do a transfer to my brother's neteller account.

Talking Poker 09-01-06 01:53 PM

Be careful.... I'm pretty sure I saw in the terms that they can void the offer if you do that. It's one per ________ (name, email, household, etc, etc, etc).

GeoffM 09-01-06 02:59 PM

You know what, this won't work. You'd need to use their ID and stuff...unless they're cool with that. Don't think you can transfer on mansion.com from account to account.

Talking Poker 09-01-06 03:25 PM

Wait... what won't work? I was saying I wouldn't risk doing it, not advocating trying it.

PShabi 09-02-06 12:16 PM

Has anyone bothered to send their verification documents to Mansion yet. I've been meaning to do this before hand as to avoid delays. Once the game is over, you can bet that department is going to be swamped.

Talking Poker 09-02-06 12:41 PM

I'm not planning on cashing out right away anyway, so it doesn't matter for me.... but to answer your question: No, I have not.

Sounds like a good idea though.

Edit: I thought about making a smallish ($200 or so) hedge at another book.... but the stupid line is -4 now, which makes me a little nervous.

Penguinfan 09-02-06 01:10 PM

Most places will let you buy the point back to 5, it will cost you 20 cents but you can still lock up a profit that way.

I hate to get anyone middled on this, but the difference between 4 and 5 is not that great, especially in what should be a low scoring game 21-17 is the only score you really have to worry about and that still gets you a push if you have Miami +4

eejit101 09-02-06 04:07 PM

lol, you got me.

seriously though, this ends at any second.

johnp158 09-05-06 11:01 PM

So just to be sure,

I placed a bet at Mansion on Pittsburgh as a pick'em. I then went to Pinnacle to hedge, and they had Miami +1, so I bet $515. Good, right? I even have a chance to come out really good if the Steelers can win by exactly 1.

BTW, my girlfriend bet on Steelers when it was 4.5 without hedging, and it's really my money, so there's still that too.

Talking Poker 09-05-06 11:21 PM

I'm freaking jealous.
