Starting Day 2 Chip Counts:

Wes is in really great shape, and somehow, there are quite a few people with less chips than me. I really need to get off to a good start today.

Kurn 01-07-07 10:39 AM

Thanks everybody for the support. I'm posting this from the internet/TV hookup in the room. They don't give chipcounts for the hand that I busted on, but I had about 15,500 and the level was 800/1600/a100, levels going up in about 4 minutes except that after I busted, they broke to set up the final table (we were at 2 tables, 5-handed each). The guy who busted me was from Newfoundland, but a Pats fan, so that was OK. When we stood and shook hands before they dealt the board, I said "at least a Pats fan will win this pot."

This hand was straightforward, so no need to post it, but I have 2 or three others I'll post in the strategy forum.

Guy who busted me was short-stacked last hand of the prior level (about 9K), in a 4-way unraised pot with the table chip leader and the ultimate winner. The chip leader made pot-size bet on the flop, Quillan (now to be known as Moneymaker Jr) called and Bobby pushed. Chip leader goes all-in for 16K instantly. Quillan goes into the tank for 2 minutes and finally folds. Chip leader had 33 for a flopped set and Bobby shows a OESD, and hits on the turn to take half the chip leader's stack. At the break between levels, guy looks like he wants to break something. Quillan later says he folded an overpair.

Talking Poker 01-07-07 11:35 AM

I just checked the seat assignments for today. I'm at Table 9, Seat 2. I like the 2 seat.

The only name I recognized at the table is .

Two seats to my left, the guy has almost 10x as many chips as me. This could be good or bad. If I push in, I think it's more likely that he will call me (especially if he's in the BB when I do)... but, as long as my hand wins, then I'm more likely to double up!

Hoping for the best.

GL to Boobie too, of course.

eejit101 01-07-07 11:53 AM

you sure about that?

Reel Deal 01-07-07 11:58 AM

GL today boys!

Nice showing Kurn.

Talking Poker 01-07-07 01:02 PM

Out. Around 400th. Turns out they are paying a whopping 180.

I'm not even upset, because I seriously couldn't have gotten my money in any better then I did. After folding every hand for an orbit and a half, I get down to 10 BBs (10,000 chips). An early position guy raises to 2500, the cut off calls, and I push in from the button with AKs. The BB (the big stack) thinks and then calls, the original raiser thinks and then folds, the cut off thinks and then pushes () giving me some protection, and then the big stack thinks some more. At this point, I obviously want him to fold, because I can't get any more money in the pot. There was already, let's see - about 35,000 in the pot that I could win, so I'd rather only have to beat one guy than two. He finally calls, and I'm thrilled to see them turn over JJ (CO) and TT (BB). All I need is an Ace or a King - and they didn't even have any spades, I don't think! The flop comes three small red cards, the turn is another small blank, and I'm down to 6 outs on the river. It's a Q, and I'm out.

Damn... if I hit that, I'd be right back in this thing - still beow average, but not by much. Oh well.... It just wasn't meant to be.

GL Wes. Take it down!

juiCe[3x] 01-07-07 01:13 PM

GG TP, Hopefully Boobie can take this down.

Robbr25 01-07-07 01:16 PM

GG TP!

Maybe not the result we all wanted, but well done with the cards you had!

Tony Cheval 01-07-07 02:52 PM

Well there's your bar bill at least.

X-Longshot-X 01-07-07 03:12 PM

No, they are paying out 180 places he finished 400thish so he won nothing, wes will have to pick up this one

Talking Poker 01-07-07 04:19 PM

Yes, 2% of Wes should cover my bar bill.

I just checked on him a little while ago, and he was sitting with 160k chips - at John Phan's table (who Wes has covered many times over). I suspect his update tonight will be a good one. They are approaching the money. Keep an eye on for tourney updates.

I just registered for tonights $500 tourney. I cashed for $1000 straight in this one last year and am hoping to improve on that tonight.

In non-poker news, my girlfriend flew home today and my mom flew in. I need to introduce her to Monique (Isabelle's mom) - I think they'll get along great.

New Guy 01-07-07 04:29 PM

TP what can you do? I love AKs with 1010 and qq to triple up.Just didnt happen but for being basiclly card dead all tourney and getting there is a testiment to your play.Bobbie well bring it down I can feel it!!

melioris 01-07-07 07:35 PM

I am checking tp.com a retarded amount waiting for a boobie update. Any news?

juiCe[3x] 01-07-07 07:50 PM

Yah, same with me.

Talking Poker 01-07-07 10:29 PM

He made it to Day 3. I think he ended with around 140k. Chip counts should be out there by now, right?

I'll update later, but I don't have much to write. I busted out around 40/230 - 20 spots got paid.

Boobie Lover 01-07-07 10:47 PM

Just finished the day with 139,400.

I sucked out badly in a hand that I shouldn't have played to begin with at the beginning of the day. UTG+2 raises and I call stupidly with AJo. Flop is J83 with two spades, I check/raise this guy that committed him (I think he stated with around 70k), but he calls with only 20k behind. Turn is a nice J, and he call my push with QQ. River is no help and I get up to about 150kish.

Not much happened for a long time at this table that I was at the majority of the time. I couldn't ever get a hand, and it seemed to be always a raised pot by the time it got to me. The only way I kept afloat and moved up a litte bit was by restealing a bunch of times, especially versus this one guy to my right.

I was around 160k when the followign hand happened. Folded to me in the hijack and raise with K:d:J:d:. I don't remember what the blinds were at the time so I'll just tell it in terms of the size of the pot. Folded to this semi-loose Central American dude who call. Flop is a nice JJ7 rainbow. Check, I bet 2/3 pot, call. Turn is a 3 still rainbow. Check, I check behind. The guy seemed aggressive, and I was certain that he would bet on the end if I checked here. Anyway, river is a T. He bets the size of the pot, I shove which is a litte bit more than double his bet (probably too thin), and he instacall with 33. I think in retrospect, I should have just called, but the guy seemed bad at the time. Oh well, whatever.

That put me down to about 80k. I don't remember any big hands for a while. On the hour that the money bubble broke, I folded for what seemed like an hour and half. Somehow, I didn't bubble and was guaranteed 10k. Wippee.

Then, THE HAND comes up. You know the monster, 82o in the cutoff. Anyway, I told myself before the hand that I was going to open no matter what or reraise any reasonable stack. So, guy to my left open for 8k, I reraise to about 25k, and all fold to him who calls. Now, I was fairly certain that he would have medium pair. Probably 77-JJ, maybe QQ or AQ.

Anyway, the flop comes A72 with two diamonds. Now, the guy donks into me for 25k. Hmmm, what is that? Oh yeah, an invitation for the ole' reraise bluff. I wanted to reraise to 60k, and I still think I announced "reraise to 60k", but apparently I said rerasie 60k more, which left me with 1.5k behind. Stupid live game semantics. The guy tanks forever, and I'm sitting there shaking (bah stupid online donkey calm the fuck down). The guy says he doesn't believe I have an ace, and then says this will probably be a horrible call by him. I'm thinking if there is any way I can fold 1.5k into a 200k pot. Finally, the guy folds what he says is TT and I show the monster to the table. The guy asks me if I can play him in a cash game after that, which I say I would. Hopefully, that day will come to fruition.

Nothing else happens. John Phan was sporting a shortstack basically the whole time I there playing with him. I repopped him with TT once, and he folded after his initial bet was about 1/3 his stack. With about 40 minutes left, I get moved to a new table. The guy I had 82o against is upset that I am being forced to another table. I hope I get the opportunity to own his ass again tomorrow.

The person to my left at the new table is sporting a huge stack (I think 380k). That person is ZeeJustin (you might know him as the guy that multi-accounted the big online tournies then got his money confiscated later). Folded to me, I raise K3o in the SB, ZeeJustin cals. Flop is 7:h:5:h:2:d:. I cbet 1/2 pot. He call. Turn is K:s:. I bet 2/3 pot. He calls. River is a 2:h:. I check, I bets near the live of the pot (75k). That was a little more than 1/2 my stack, and tanked for about 2.5 minutes. I couldn't really put him on a hand that made a lot of sense. I think hearts would have put more money on the flop, or folded the turn. A pair lower than kings wouldn't bet that much on the river (or at all basically). I pussed out in the end and folded. Probably should have called.

I survived another day which is always a plus. Average is about 155k I believe.

Reel Deal 01-07-07 11:15 PM

Great report BL... I'm sure you're pretty beat now so thanks for that and GL tomorrow!

Boobie Lover 01-07-07 11:18 PM

Just noticed I'm on the. I'm the guy bored out of his mind to the directly to the dealer's left.

X-Longshot-X 01-07-07 11:31 PM

Awesome report Boobie, GL tomorrow, win that bitch and make sure to own the little punk who likes to mess with tp.com members ^_^

johnp158 01-07-07 11:47 PM

Thanks for the report. GL.

Talking Poker 01-07-07 11:56 PM

You need to remember to show me the guy who wants to play you in a cash game (is he in the pic?). heh. About that hand though, while I agree that it's important to play a hand like that from time to time (and I do stress "from time to time"), I think it's ok to look down at 82o and go with Plan B, which is to fold. When I get in that spot, I tell myslf I'll do it with any reasonable hand, but I would pitch 82. 74, sure, but not 82. Then again - you're still in and I'm out, so what do I know?

Also, I suspect your hand was good vs. ZeeJustin, but please again refer to above disclaimer.

About that reraise thing... you can typically correct the dealer when they mistate your intentions if you do it right away. In other words, "No, I said 'Raise to 60k' (or 'Raise. 60k'), not 'raise 60k.'" They may call over the floor, but they will typically side with you especially when ou point out that you have 1.5k behind and how stupid would it be for you to have raised all but that. Of course, this could all be a sign of weakness or something, so it may be beter to just suck it up and pray for the fold.

82o. You're the man. GL tomorrow. I'm gonna play in the $1000 at 2:00, but I'll check in on you before then for sure. It's time to work my 2% up to enough to cover my side tourney losses (if not my entire trip - $30k if you take this down sure would be fun!), so get 'er done...

JDMcNugent7 01-08-07 02:20 AM

thats awesome man. plz win.
im so glad u showed that bluff too.

Zybomb 01-08-07 02:28 AM

Take it down!

melioris 01-08-07 06:58 AM

Great job Boobie. Take this one down!

Talking Poker 01-08-07 09:12 AM

You have no excuses. You could be here if you wanted to. You need to pick a tourney like this in the future and hit they sattys hard. You'll be glad you did.

Talking Poker 01-08-07 01:21 PM

The Main Event has been underway for an hour or so now. Nice, detailed updates from the today, so keep an eye on that.

P0ker H0 and I swapped 3% for today's $1000 tourney again. Rather than neither of us pay each other anything like usual, we've decided to both make the final table this time. Oh, and we're both starting at the same table, as luck would have it - with him in the 3 seat and me in the 8. That tourney starts at 2:00.

They are playing down to 18 players today, and I'd really, really, really like to see Wes make it to Day 4!

Zybomb 01-08-07 01:37 PM

You tell me the next tourny and (if I somehow get off work) I'll be there

melioris 01-08-07 02:06 PM

from the 12:38pm post (if I remember correctly)

"Partick Pezzin pushes in for 25K. Called by Joseph Serack and then raised to 70K by Wesley Ismay. Joseph folds and we have 97s for Patrick vs KK for Wesley. The board comes Qc-3c-8c6s-4d. The straight does not materialise on the river and we have lost another."

*wipes tear of pride from eye* I remember when he was such a little boobie.....

Quint 01-08-07 02:09 PM

From the blog: Partick Pezzin pushes in for 25K. Called by Joseph Serack and then raised to 70K by Wesley Ismay. Joseph folds and we have 97s for Patrick vs KK for Wesley. The board comes Qc-3c-8c6s-4d. The straight does not materialise on the river and we have lost another.

melioris 01-08-07 02:55 PM

Hey Boobie-great work, keep it up. In one of the pictures I saw some guy wearing a CFC hat. That stands for “Chelsea Football Club”, a soccer team in England. They were bought by a Russian mobster who has spend around a billion dollars (I typed this to exaggerate, but the sad truth is that it might be close to true) on stacking the team, raised ticket prices through the roof, and now pretty much only posers support them.

Since you are busting everyone there at some point, when you knock this guy, it would be awesome to say something like “Real Men Support Reading” or “Fulham”. Those are two not so great English teams that both have a couple (or more) Americans playing on them. If you don't want to say anything, kicking the guy in the nuts as he walked away would also work.

Of course you have more important things to worry about, so if you forget don’t worry about it. Keep up the good work and Good Luck!

Dodoubled 01-08-07 04:58 PM

According to Cardplayer, Boobie busted in 76th for $14,128.
I'm sure he's pretty peeved, but still, great showing.

omahilo 01-08-07 05:58 PM

nice run man... Im sure you will be at the next big tourney.

Talking Poker 01-08-07 06:13 PM

Yeah, he busted out 76th. I had just walked away from my table in the other tourney to check on his stack when I noticed a seat card sitting in front of his empty chair. Uh oh. Yup, there he was at the cashier's table. I caught up with him later on and he told me about his day. I'll let him tell you guys, of course. Tough break in the end.

As for my tourney, it went almost exactly like yesterday's. I started off well and built a stack, and then went ridiculously card dead. In 3+ hours of play, I literally was dealt the following pairs: TT (lost a big pot), 66 (lost a medium pot), and 33 (folded preflop). I had AK exactly once and doubled up with it, and didn't have AQ, AJ, AT all day. Yeah, nice cards.

When the blinds went from 100/200 with a 25 ante to 200/400 with a 50 (that's a big jump), my already not so great stack immediately became a short one. I pushed UTG with A7 (the blinds would have crippled me the next two hands) and got called by AK. I flopped a 7, but fear not, he hit a King on the turn.

Meanwhile, P0ker H0 lasted exactly 3 hands this time. He busted with AA. He raised preflop and was called by an EP limper. Check/bet/call on the all rag flop. Then the board paired 3s on the turn, the limper bet, H0 pushed, and the limper called and flipped up 33. LOL.... Good stuff. He and I seriously need to stop swapping.

I played with some fairly big online players today. I don't remember all their names, but Marvin Garden was one... He and his wife started their own business (with some of his poker money), making high end suntan lotion and stuff. He gave me a sample. Pretty cool.

Anyway, that's all for now. I think I'm done tourneys for this trip. Maybe I'll hit the cash tables later, but probably not. I may actually play online later on tonight in the lobby. It's a cool environment down there, with some many people gathered around tables full of latops.

juiCe[3x] 01-08-07 06:14 PM

Good Job

Boobie Lover 01-08-07 06:41 PM

You all know about the KK hand. I had a real crap image at the beginning since I was opening a bunch. Then, people started to play back at me, and I would finally fold A9 or 66 or something equivalent. So, after about 1/2 an hour after getting a 75k advance to the stack, I was back to where I started and decreasing.

Then, Ted Lawson (I think, he looked a lot like that PLO donk that won a WSOP bracelet) opens in the hijack+1 and I 3bet AQo in the SB to 65k leaving myself 70kish behind. He thinks for a couple of minutes, and then tables AJo. I guess I'm playing way too tight if AJ thinks that long before hitting the muck.

1/2 an hour later, Some black guy from Denver limps UTG (I think limping is pretty much always a mistake with blinds this high in a tourney) and I iso raise with A7o. He calls. Flop comes 778 with two hearts. He checks, I cbet, he check/raises an amount that commits me. I push and he call with 44. I hold up.

Finally, the hand that busted me. I raise with 68 SOOTED in the hijack. The chipleader of the whole tourney with about 600k at that point calls in the CO and everyone else folds. Flop is JT8 with two spades. I cbet 3/4 pot, he calls. Turn is a 6 (non spade). I check, he bets 60k, I push for about 180k. He instacalsl. He has JJ. Drawing dead never felt so bad.

14k is an ok payday for a vacation I suppose.

Tony Cheval 01-08-07 06:48 PM
