Wow, watching on sopcast now (thanks Shab!!)... what a great throw-out at the plate by Soriano to get out of the top of the 8th and keep it tied at 2-2!!

C'mon Cubbies!!!!!!

Edit: Griffey just went down with the 55th injury of his career... Cubs w/runners at 1st and 3rd, one out.

Edit 2: Cubs score!! 3-2. Still runners at 1st and 2nd, one out, bottom of the 8th.

Brew Crew Loses

Magic Number = 3

with 4 to play. We win two, I think we have it. Let's win 3 and be sure.

omahilo 09-27-07 07:27 AM

the reds are sweeping you guys so better hope the brewers keep losing.

Reel Deal 09-27-07 09:37 AM

Two wins clinches at least a tie. Any combination of Cubs wins and Brewers losses that equals 3 means they win outright.

jillaj 09-27-07 07:29 PM

God the Marlins own us.

Reel Deal 09-27-07 07:42 PM

Fire up the jet and get them the hell out of Miami. Sheez.

P.S. Go Padres.

omahilo 09-28-07 11:36 PM

Hopefully they dont ever win a world series while Im alive, I mean we got to keep tradition going, its been what... like 100 years? lol

PShabi 09-29-07 12:58 AM

Suck my dick.

Magic # = 0

omahilo 09-29-07 01:29 AM

lol they are just waiting till playoff time to disappoint you this year. Hopefully Zambrano doesnt spaz out and kill your whole team.

Kurn 09-29-07 08:19 AM

LOL National League

Every team in the AL playoffs is better than every team in the NL playoffs. In fact, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays are better than 2/3 of the teams in the NL.

Not to mention their stupid rule that requires each team to have an incompetent hitter in the lineup.

Wes 09-29-07 08:47 AM

Yeah and the cardinals were like the 20th best team in the majors last year. What's your point?

Kurn 09-29-07 09:01 AM

I just like ragging on NL fans. I so hate that they stick to the outmoded idea that it is correct for the pitcher to hit. The DH is simply the single most intelligent rule alteration in professional sports during my lifetime. It is a recognition of the reality of baseball, i.e., the pitcher is a defensive specialist.

The only place in baseball above the high school level where the pitcher still has to bat is the NL, and the only reason they bat in HS BB is that the pitchers are usually the best athletes on the team.

PShabi 09-29-07 10:41 AM

It's called "real baseball."

PShabi 09-29-07 10:42 AM

You should thank the Cubs for allowing your pathetic team to play a meaningful game in September last night. Don't expect that to happen again for a while.

Reel Deal 09-29-07 01:18 PM

Enjoy Barry Bonds next year...

PShabi 09-29-07 08:28 PM

Back on topic

This was such a fun season. Before June 16, I probably watched about 10/66 games. I got DirecTV and the extra innings package after that and watched approximately 88 of the last 96. I missed 4 when I was on vacation and I missed the Saturday Fox games a few times. Damn, I watched a lot of baseball.

Win it all one time for Shabi, Baby!!

Talking Poker 09-29-07 08:43 PM

Freaking Phillies are killing me here. Up one game with 2 left to play, and now going into the last game of the season.

If the Phils pull it off and get to play the Cubbies, I'll gladly bet you every game of the series.... that would make it way more fun.

PShabi 10-01-07 10:13 PM

I got a ticket to Game 2 on Thursday night. I'm going to drive down and stay with a buddy, who's also a huge Cub fan. We've known eachother since 7th grade. Played HS hoops together and went to Purdue together too. Traditionally, our luck with the po pos is quite dog shit, so wish us luck.

It's gonna be a wild night, but I'll rep Cub Nation proudly! Altogether, it'll probably be about 24 hours for me in PHX.

redbank09 10-01-07 10:47 PM

good luck, being that i hate everyone else in the playoffs i guess ill pull for the cubs. it would be a cool site to see the cubs hosting a world series game back in chicago again!

juiCe[3x] 10-01-07 11:30 PM

I hate the po pos. Looks like you'll have a good time. Too bad I just can't root for the Cubs :p but hope you have fun.

drewjax 10-01-07 11:48 PM

Here's to a Sox/Cubs world series game 7!!

:cheers::cheers:

Reel Deal 10-02-07 12:05 AM

That's awesome, have a blast! Go Cubs!!

PShabi 10-03-07 08:42 PM

Let's Go Cubbies! The journey starts tonight. Let's hope it's a long one!!!!

PShabi 10-04-07 02:33 AM

Looks like I'll be at the biggest game of the season for my Cubbies tomorrow night (almost today).

I believe.

Kurn 10-04-07 08:25 AM

"Real" in what way? All sports evolve. The original rules of baseball required that the pitcher ask the batter where he preferred the pitch to be thrown. In fact, as late as the beginning of the 20th century, major league owners tried to ban the curveball and all other "attempts to deceive the batter." As originally designed, the pitchers job was to enable the batter to put the ball in play, not try to get him out.

So if you don't believe baseball should revert to that, the "baseball purist" argument goes out the window. You tacitly accept that an evolution of the rules makes sense. No pitcher makes an NL roster because of his bat. No manager ever says, "Smith will give me more innings than Jones and have a better ERA, but Jones is my 5th starter because we need his bat in the lineup every 5th day."

The pitcher is a defensive specialist. Logic says putting an offensive specialist in the batting order instead of the pitcher makes the game better.

Lou Piniella once said managing in the NL was easier because 2/3 of all pitching changes are automatic. 6th inning or beyond, tied or behind, you pinch hit. No skill there. No stress there. The hardest decision a manager has to make in a game is deciding when the starting pitcher has had enough. In the NL, that decision comes into play much less than in the AL.

Tony Cheval 10-04-07 05:18 PM

I'm not that much of a baseball fan anymore, but I have to go with Kurn here, and 90% of pitchers' atbats are just a sad, sad spectacle anyway.

Though I do gotta say, how about dem Rockies? :D

Talking Poker 10-04-07 11:01 PM

I was happy for them to win their playoff game (despite the game winning bad call), but come on now - enough is enough. GO PHILS!

redbank09 10-05-07 12:10 AM

not looking to good, pray that pshabi doesnt kill any diamondback fans tonight!

Reel Deal 10-05-07 08:50 AM

I wouldn't mind. Fuck them.

Talking Poker 10-05-07 01:05 PM

Our teams suck.

If we can go a combined 6-0, we can have the Cubs/Phils games I've been hoping for.

Reel Deal 10-05-07 02:44 PM

Can you imagine a Cleveland v. Arizona WS?? Who would watch that outside of Northern Ohio and Phoenix?? Bah.

Kurn 10-05-07 06:52 PM

I think if you're a baseball fan, you watch the WS regardless of who plays.

Invigilator 10-05-07 06:56 PM

Even so, I imagine it's like hockey. The more history the teams have (age and with each other) the more interesting it is.

omahilo 10-05-07 07:06 PM

go cubs ha :) I love it... same shit different season, should of just let the brewers have a shot in the playoffs.

oh well till next year

PShabi 10-05-07 10:04 PM

I'm not a baseball fan, I'm a Cubs fan. I make no special arrangements to catch a World Series game. I may watch a few innings here and there, but generally I have no interest.

BTW, the road trip was fun and sucked. :(

PShabi 10-05-07 10:06 PM

If it were the Reds in the playoffs(hard to imagine anytime soon), and THEY were down 0-2, nobody would say shit to you. Not cause were nice, but because no one gives a flying fuck about the Reds.

Reel Deal 10-05-07 10:21 PM

Pre the last strike and pre-Barry Bonds and all the steriod mess, I would have.
