October Goals

I have to write my goals down to keep me on track since last month I feel like I didn't do shit.

1. Play a ton of hands. My winrate will almost def be worse this month, but the $ will hopefully be better. Instead of only playing late at night when I can concentrate I'm gonna try to get in hands when just watchin tv w roomates and stuff.

2. Get good at 6m again. Really only want to do this so I can get in more hands when HU games are dry.

3. Don't focus on money, just play good. (6 fig month please???)

4. Table select well. Only play 25/50 when tables are good. Stay away from 50/100 unless super fish sits.

5. Don't let poker take up too much time at all.

Reel Deal 10-04-07 08:54 AM

How does #5 fit given what you wrote in #1?

JDMcNugent7 10-04-07 03:02 PM

only play when theres nothing better to do?
like def no staying in instead of going out to play poker or anything like i would do on nights i thought would be boring last yr.

Reel Deal 10-04-07 03:28 PM

Sounds good... definitely don't let it interfere with you're enjoyment of college, there's no other time in your life like it.

I was going to say something about playing a LOT of hands this month (for me, 20k would be a LOT), but I'll be having visitors here for basically half the month, and I don't want to feel pressured to play while they are here. Still though, I want to get my hands in, so:

-Iron Man on Full Tilt.
-10k hands minimum $1/2 NL.
-Give serious consideration to moving back up later in the month.

Regarding the third, as you may recall, $3/6 NL was my regular game, with some $2/4 and $5/10 mixed in. After a combination of running and playing badly, I found myself on a sick downswing and started really disliking playing. So, I decided to cash out most of my online roll, and rebuild... It's been one of the best poker decisions I've ever made, and I'm enjoying playing again. The thing is, I'm just not sure I want to stay at $1/2 forever. I mean, I've been winning (and cashing out here and there), but I'm kind of wondering if I should move back up. So, I guess we'l see how the month shapes up for me, but I may mave up to $2/4 later this month. I think 4 months of playing exclusively $1/2 has shown discipline isn't a problem for me... Now it's just a question of if I want to continue to take the easy road, or to chalenge myself once again.

Talking Poker 10-04-07 04:21 PM

That's a very good list for you - and especially if #2 is referring to non-poker books. Glad to see you post it.

Regarding #3, if you don't mind sharing, what have you been doing? I'm a big fan of volunteer work and I think all "professional" poker players should make time to do it.

Oh, and GL with #4. Prop bet? :D

stormswa 10-04-07 04:25 PM

mine are mostly non poker related but I shall share.

1. have a baby Girl
2. get forum done and work on development
3. finish my 21 backer tourneys (if #1 doesn't interfere of course)
4. switch jobs at work (hope this happens real bad)

MAYHEM45 10-04-07 04:53 PM

Reverse number one to get more playing time in and this is my list exactly. I have a couple girls looking into volunteer positions for me right now. There isnt much that ive been able to find that doesnt involve driving old people to the hospital.

Wes 10-04-07 04:54 PM

Volunteering is at some local homeless shelters.

And it is non-poker books (probably haven't read a poker book in at least 6 monhts), most of which is real estate/landlording related as I try to expand into different venues. That seems a little too money related which probably isn't that great of an option as I don't want to be thinking all money related like I always do when I am way too much into poker so I'll try to read some psychology books and religion/philosophy books too (and hopefully try to improve upon run on sentences too).

MAYHEM45 10-04-07 04:55 PM

what do u do at the homeless shelter?

stormswa 10-04-07 05:03 PM

wtf everytime I really dont want to like you in the least you come back with this. Nice, that is beyond cool.

Invigilator 10-04-07 05:27 PM

1. Run Good
2. Win Money
3. Flop set over set once every 75 hands.
4. Make a final table in a PL 5 card draw tournament.
EDIT: 6. Make my 1000th post

Reel Deal 10-04-07 05:36 PM

Only one for me... watch Cubs win World Series!!

Aim high Willis, aim high!!!

Wes 10-04-07 05:41 PM

Actually haven't started doing it yet. Hopefully it will be fulfilling.

JDMcNugent7 10-04-07 07:18 PM

oh wow i feel bad for u.

Invigilator 10-04-07 10:19 PM

oh, THAT kind of goal setting. In that case I will set out to win the Sunday Million... twice. :D

Talking Poker 10-06-07 02:11 AM

JDMcNugent7 10-06-07 05:00 AM

lol ty. i dn wut to say. i had to re-look at all my HH from last night i dont even remember playin

Talking Poker 10-06-07 12:41 PM

Yeah, that's pretty bad. REALLY bad, in fact.

Hopefully you won't log on sometime to see that you lost 6 figures the night before and don't remember it.

Drunk poker probably isn't the best idea, no matter how funny it seems at the time.

GeorgeT123 10-08-07 12:19 AM

About the volunteering at the homeless showers, what kind of volunteering did you actually do there? I know I managed to get myself up at 7 last saturday for a local homeless breakfast distribution and although I'm still recovering from the lack of sleep it was a great feeling. Some of the people you meet there are actually pretty fun to talk to and if you've got nothing better to do then I suggest you all give it a shot one weekend...

Talking Poker 10-08-07 12:21 AM

Funny typo.

Sounds like a rewarding experience...

Fildy 10-08-07 12:23 AM

Be rolled for 10nl properly.
Play well.
Run well.
Continue to grind and not chase losses.

Reel Deal 10-08-07 01:44 AM

My month is already over.

GeorgeT123 10-08-07 12:12 PM

Hahahaha I'm not even going to attempt to edit that. Some typos are infinitely better than the original intentions.

Akverno 10-10-07 10:58 PM

October Goals

Play 20k hands (cash) and a couple of different tourneys. Hopefully I'll show a decent profit.

sjay2k 10-14-07 11:57 AM

play no poker and resurrect my Uni career

Zybomb 10-14-07 12:16 PM

:confused::confused::confused:

sjay2k 10-14-07 01:06 PM

I have two assignments for each subject at Uni. i don't really go to lectures or tutes, which makes the assignments a lot more difficult. Legal Ethics is probably the worst subject imaginable (couple of weeks ago the lecture was titled "the Ethics of Care and Virtue"... i forgot to bring along my CareBear).

i've started doing volunteer work for two full days a week (8-5), which is painful with the sleeping patterns i've developed. i play in two b'ball teams and have been trying to do gym at least three times a week.

also i've been real busy trying to get this girl to like me :)

so that's where my time has been going.

i don't think i've played at all this month. i played a little bit in September but whenever i would start off a session badly, i would end up playing for hours (even after i got un-stuck). I really don't have the time for long sessions right now. i played ok at times but ran horribly and lost a decent amount for Sep (10k i think but I won 5-6k on Betfair)

Uni finishes mid-November. after that i'm looking at doing a short Stockholm/Prague/Amsterdam/Copenhagen trip. after that i will have the time/focus to for some serious pokering :)

anyway just letting you guys know i'm still alive!

warning TOO LONG DON'T READ

MAYHEM45 10-14-07 03:09 PM

lol thx for the WARNING asshole.

Talking Poker 10-15-07 12:56 AM

LOL...

Glad to kow you're still alive and kicking, sjay. Sounds like you have your priorities right too. GL with everything - poker will be waiting for you when you are ready for it in a few months.

Looking forward to the HU Part 2, whenever that comes...

Oh, where are you volunteering? It's with the girl, isn't it?

sjay2k 10-17-07 06:27 AM

1 Attachment(s)
Hmmmm the volunteering thing is slightly embarrassing, but not related to any girl or any motive like that. to compensate, here's a picture of me from the w/e with a girl touching her own boobs

i really need to get back to work but v uninspired :(

edit: sorry no more crap in october goals thread, i promise

Reel Deal 10-17-07 09:29 AM

Nice tan.

Aequitas58 10-17-07 07:24 PM

My goal for this month was to concentrate on playing hands and attaining Goldstar VIP. Well, GS is a day or two away, but I'm running so bad lately. I feel like I'm on a two-week slump, which is awesomer when I average 750-1000 hands / day. :(

C'mon Lee, time to make it rain for your boy.

Talking Poker 10-17-07 11:24 PM

Wow, you're playing a lot.

Do yourself a favor and set up a FT rakeback account.

Aequitas58 10-17-07 11:28 PM

That's something I been thinking about. I already have an account w/out rakeback... but my beautiful wife might sign up for one. :)

Talking Poker 10-18-07 12:14 AM

I think she most definitely should. Immediately.

With the number of hands you are playing per month, you are looking at quite a bit of RB... depends how many fay you play and what stakes, but I wouldn't be surprised if you she could be taking home 4 figures in RB every month.

MAYHEM45 10-20-07 05:31 PM

1.Get back to even.
2. Learn PLO.

Aequitas58 10-20-07 09:30 PM

1. Attain Goldstar.
2. Make every session a losing session.

So far, so good on both!

burty1 10-20-07 09:44 PM

Hmm...I also don't have rakeback at FT...I was transferred directly from Doylesroom (where I had RB) and they told me they could not give it to me at FT...
I was under the assumption that they could track your internet location and could tell if you simply changed accounts...in other words, couldn't simply open a new account under your wife's name for instance...
However, could you open an account under a father-in-law and play under his name? Again, basically the question is: Can they track where you are playing from...could they tell if you did this?

Wes 10-20-07 09:49 PM

You are wrong burty. I opened "my dad's" account under same computer/same ip that I had been playing on for a while.

burty1 10-21-07 09:04 AM

Very interesting...did you cashout your account first? How did you fund your "father's" account? Does he have a Paypal account or did you use his credit card...or how did you do it?

Anyone else done this or have any experience with this in any shape or form?

Talking Poker 10-21-07 10:37 AM

Some thing may be better off not spelled out step by step on puclic message boards.

But I will tell you that I know of plenty of people who didn't originally have Full Tilt RB accounts and do now.

In unrelated news, you should PM me sometime.

MAYHEM45 10-25-07 02:20 PM

HU PLO is fun as hell.

MAYHEM45 10-26-07 02:37 AM

I retract this statement. :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

JDMcNugent7 10-26-07 03:44 AM

Reel Deal 10-26-07 10:14 AM

Pics por favor.

BTW, a college chick with fake tits?? WTF??

bunny 10-26-07 10:33 AM

I was going to bite my tongue and keep my thoughts to myself, but I can't. :o

I will most probably get boo'ed for saying this, no offense...but I must say it anyway.

Seems to me you're fooling yourself into thinking you're happy, being with all this many women and getting drunk all the time. That's not happiness, that's loneliness imo (although many male members, as do your male friends, will think otherwise). You have lots of money, yet you don't know what you want out of life, that to me is a bad mix and could only get you in trouble.

You might want to think about all the women you sleep with...think about what will happen should one of them get pregnant with your child, one day. What then?

Have you ever thought of seeking some sort of counseling? Many people don't seek help because it's too costly, but that wouldn't be a problem for you. So do yourself a favor and talk to someone, before you ruin your life. I honestly think they might help you...find yourself.

Reel Deal 10-26-07 11:08 AM

Bunny, I understand you have a different perspective as a woman but you're way, way, way overreacting. I was basically the same guy as JD in college (minus the gigantic bankroll) and I turned out just fine. Let the boy enjoy the lifestyle because, believe me, it doesn’t last forever!!

BTW, if this type of behavior warranted counseling... well, lets just say there aren't enough counselors in the world.
