PokerStars Private Tourney?

How many out there would be willing to play in a private tournament for the Talking Poker forum posters?

Setting up an account w/ Stars is easy if you don't already have one. From my experience, Stars is great when it comes to MTTs. Maybe we can get Stars to add some money? A reach, but who knows.

I'm not about to email Stars until there is significant interest. What limit would work for everyone? $10+1? $20+2? I'd like to encourage the most participation, so I imagine a lower buy-in would be best for everyone, even though some people play SnGs for $100+9.

I'd love to get something together but I am unable to play on the weekends. This means Friday, Saturday and Sunday day and night. Best days for me are weeknights. We also have to deal with people's varying time zones.

Start posting interest - maybe we can get something going.

omahilo 11-16-04 09:29 PM

I would be interested... 10+1 would be nice limit. I can play about anytime... just set up a time.

ChipFish 11-16-04 09:40 PM

I'm in.
And if you're really nice, I might even fold an A-A for ya ;)

badblood44 11-16-04 09:52 PM

The last blogger tourney was held on Pokerstars, it was $20+2.

Had 133 people sign up.

Count me in as interested for the $10 or $20 options.

Talking Poker 11-16-04 10:01 PM

This was discussed in the Suggestion section. I'm personaly all for it, and would even happily put a bounty on my own head, just for kicks :D
I think we should hold off until after the new year though... Oh, and I'll play any limit you guys decide on.

2Tone 11-16-04 10:16 PM

Sure, why not

After all my babbling about grinding, a freewheeling NL game against you guys would be a blast. I'm in, though if it is a weekday, would have to be in evening Pacific Time for me to make it.

Chutups 11-16-04 10:41 PM

I'ld also be very interested in this, count me in.

Aequitas58 11-16-04 11:38 PM

Wait - lemme guess: only if it's the first hand of the tournament, right? It's all about survival!

Aequitas58 11-16-04 11:44 PM

Players.

TP has 116 total members. That's not too shabby. I posted to see how many of those 116 would be interested.

Because Stars private tournies would be very easy to setup, we could have a lot of them if there is some serious interest.

jimmytheg 11-16-04 11:48 PM

I would most definately play in this tourney.

20 buy in would be cool cause that seems to be the majority consensus, but i'd be willing to play for more if it was agreeable with the masses.

Lots of bragging rights would be at stake too....

Aequitas58 11-17-04 12:35 AM

Exactly. Besides, it would be cool to actually raise some of these eggheads I post with. :)

Penguinfan 11-17-04 01:19 PM

A sports forum I post at and read daily has private tournaments ALMOST every day at Stars and they are alot of fun. Fair warning, things that happen in the games almost always carry over to the forum discussion board, for better or worse.

GeoffM 11-17-04 01:29 PM

Weekdays in general, any time, are NOT good for me :(. I simply have too much on the go and aside from skipping a night of sleep, I likely would not be able to hand you all your asses. :D

On the bright side, you guys would actually be able to play for first instead of seeing who would lose heads up to Geoff M :p.

Aequitas58 11-17-04 05:31 PM

I'm your Huckleberry.

Defendant 11-17-04 06:46 PM

For 10 or 20 Im definitely game

johnbaker 11-17-04 07:24 PM

this sounds cool, but i only have money on empire right now. ill be glad to play on stars if someone could trade me some stars $ for empire / party $

Aequitas58 11-17-04 07:35 PM

Don't worry about it for now. We're still at the "kick it around" preliminary stage. You will have ample time to get your money straightened out.

nutbag 11-17-04 07:49 PM

Since many or maybe even all of us are party poker players, it'd be nice to have a low limit private table there. Well I just tried and created one. So if your on come to avesterl's .5/1 table at party.(password: talkingpoker) I think this would serve as a good alternative to a chatroom (low limits, so it doesn't have to be that serious).
Edited: Unfortunately, have to go to work now, but if my table dissapears when I leave, somebody else should make one and post here(possible in a new thread)

ChipFish 11-17-04 08:03 PM

Table is gone now.
I would assume that the table would remain available as long as there are players seated.

This is a nice idea, but I honestly would prefer a multi-tourney at Stars.
Kind of keeps everyone on even par with bankroll issues. (I know some players here play the penny antes)

Charlie Frank 11-17-04 08:30 PM

Count me in. Especially if its a $50 or $100 buyin. Under that is pretty low, but I'll play it anyway.

CF

junYUN 11-17-04 09:11 PM

i'd be open to this idea, but i'd like to keep it at 10 if at all possible.

Aequitas58 11-17-04 09:31 PM

He said,

"bling bling!"

ChipFish 11-17-04 09:33 PM

I'm up for just about any buy-in under $100, however,
I would imagine for a greater turn-out, $10-20 is what it will end up being.

drewjax 11-19-04 03:27 AM

Just a thought, but to get more people available, I think TP's bonus for posts etc. ends at the end of the year. Really just about 6 weeks from now, and its the silly season anyway. So maybe we could really take the time to set up a bunch of stuff, tournies/ring games whatever, for early Jan. and then people who are serious players, and who at least post here often will have some real money to play with.

omahilo 11-19-04 02:18 PM

sounds good Jax... yes winter time is coming and alot of people will be staying in the house.

SirFWALGMan 11-19-04 04:46 PM

Probably

I would consider doing it also. I could post it on the Blog, and get some interest in TP's site. I bet we could scrape together alot of people. I get about 100 hits a day.. Not a hell of a lot, but nothing to sneeze at either.

humpty99 11-19-04 05:43 PM

im in.

Aequitas58 11-19-04 06:52 PM

Yes and No.

Although I would like the idea of more people, I would want the tournament to include just the current TP forum members. I think it's more fun that way, don't you?

I mean, we could all play in an open tournament, and see how we do when all the dust settles... just a thought.

Still kickin it around... I feel like if I set it up thru PokerStars now, then only 10 people would play. LOL.

drewjax 11-20-04 12:13 AM

I agree, but would like to get the people who are on TP's site/forum, who are truly interested in learning to play better poker, and show that by earning TP's bonus by posting here often. If we just wait a bit, til after the holidays, then the bonus will be over, and people from this forum who dont really play online for real money, will have something to play for (and dump all their chips to the better players) in the tournies. And like you said there may only be 10 players who would do now. So any suggestions from anyone on how to make it as good as possible, lets hear em. We can make this top notch. I think the forum/posters here are the best I can find so maybe it will carry over to this.

BrianSwa 11-20-04 02:55 AM

hi

I wouldnt mind doing it...not to keen on doing it on pokerstars since I cant stand there interface. If thats are only option then so be it.

Frontin 11-20-04 10:06 AM

Great idea

I'd definitely play in the tourney... just can't get stars through the firewall that i'm behind now.. anyway I think this is a great idea, and it'd sure add a lot to the "how should I have played this" forum.

ChipFish 11-20-04 12:08 PM

E-mail stars Support and they will tell you how to allow them to get through.
I am not very "techy" so I can't explain it, but it's very easy.
:)

ChipFish 11-20-04 12:17 PM

Are there better ones out there?

Aequitas58 11-20-04 03:04 PM

Quite simply, it's the best interface I've seen - especially for these private tournaments. Additionally, `Stars support staff is second to none.

omahilo 11-20-04 04:06 PM

if you dont like pokerstars interface you must not play online poker lol

ChipFish 11-20-04 04:22 PM

From what I hear Pacific Poker has a very good interface. :p

drewjax 11-21-04 11:34 PM

lol chip!!

johnbaker 11-22-04 01:41 AM

can anyone trade me some stars money for empire money so i can play this tournament...

also when do you want to do this thing? im sure the minimum transfer on stars is more than the minimum on empire, so ill need a couple days to buildup my empire roll to make a big transfer

-jB

Aequitas58 11-22-04 01:46 AM

I believe the minimum transfer on Empire is $25, yet there is no minimum on Stars. It is possible for someone to transfer $11 if we wind up playing a $10+1 tournament.

Take all the time in the world to build up your bankroll. I just don't see it happening any time soon, because I'd like to get more than 20 people registered. (The way it looks now, I doubt that would happen.)

We can wait a month or so - if everyone agrees? This is the forum, let's talk about it.

BlibbityBlabbity 11-22-04 01:57 AM

I would be interested in a $10+1 on stars if thats what it ends up being.

Talking Poker 11-22-04 10:06 AM

I still think it would be bet to wait until late January or so. Even with a bunch of people "interested," coordinating everyone's schedules isn't going to be easy. I don't think we're going to have a huge turnout no matter when we do this, but the longer we wait, the better out chances.

jillaj 11-22-04 11:18 AM

Count me in as well whenever the game gets started.

robert2504 11-22-04 12:03 PM

I would be interested in a $10 buy-in.

BrianSwa 11-22-04 10:18 PM

huh

i play tons of online poker there interface is blah blah blah. Its only popular because of Chris and Greg. There are TONS of better systems not sure about the support if there support is the best for it thats one thing but there interface is far from grand. But like I said they might be best option if there support is that good ive never spent real money on that system so I really have no opinion there.

BrianSwa 11-22-04 10:21 PM

hi

pacific is the only one I cant do I took them off my computer and swore never to reload it but can do any other one you guys wish i can do any AM or weekend since im off on weekends. Unless im in Atlantic City that weekend just give me notice and I should be able to make it.

drewjax 11-23-04 03:15 AM

Question for TP

I think you said it would be possible to get your bonus for posting at either Party or STARS? Is this possible? that would allow me, and many others I'm sure to participate.

bigjohnstud2o 11-23-04 05:58 AM

he said

any site on his list. He also said Party or stars would be the most convenient. Since im getting fairly close my choice is UB. The only site besides Party that i play for real$. Besides champs if you can count that. But that would be a good way to get more people in. Use TP money to fund trny. :D No pun intended. ok maybe just a lil

Talking Poker 11-23-04 10:47 AM

I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you asking where I pay the money I pay for posts? I've been doing Party when people hit $55 (500 posts), or Empire if they want to get paid when they hit 200 ($25). I CAN transfer money to Stars, but have only been doing that for people who have signed up through my links somewhere and that sort of thing. I'm WAY in the whole from all this, so I really appreciate when people help me recoup some of my losses by joining sites through my affiliate links. Those people can get paid at Stars, but that's on a case by case basis... not just everyone.
