Bahamas - WPT PCA...
Hey gang...
Well, we're here (me and bdawg), so I figured I'd make a sticky thread for our updates. By "our," I of course mean "my." This place is amazing. There wasn't much daylight left when I got here, but from what I saw, I'm amazed. The aquariums everywhere are increadible. Our room is one of the "sucky" ones, and it's pretty nice... huge too. My flight was interesting, to say the least. I go to the airport a little over an hour before my flight, but because I was flying internationally, I got SCREWED. I couldn't check in at the kiosks, they pointed me to the wrong "short" line, and after I got through that, they told me I had to go stand in the 150 person or so huge line. No way was I going to make it. I chatted with an airline guy towards the back of the line, and he was nice enough to take me to the first class line, so I made it in time. I slipped him a $5 on the way to the gate. I know, I'm such a high roller. Got to the waiting area and saw that Hoyt Corkins was going to be on my plane. Oh, and some other Ivey guy. Yup, that's the one. He had a WICKED laptop on his lap, and I couldn't resist, so I went to the row behind him and sat down. He was playing two tables at Full Tilt (with the Phil Ivey icon in front of him!) and one table at UB. I didn't watch or get close enough to see his UB screen name - didn't want to be annoying. But it was without a doubt the baddest laptop I've ever seen. The flight was cool. In 5 minutes, we were almost to the coast, with KSC to my left and my house to my right. Pretty sweet view. I got friendly with the couple sitting in my aisle (Dean and Kim), and before I knew it, they offered me a ride to Atlantis in their limo. Um.... ok :) Got here and hiked to the check in area, and bumped into bdawg before I even got through the line. We went and enjoyed a $50 buffet for dinner (included in his package, of course), and WHAT A BUFFET! Did I mention that they had a freaking chocolate fountain??? After that, we bumped into our friends from Aruba - the Stolzman's - and the four of us went to the welcome party. We get split up, but I bumped into my boy P0ker H0 and a number of other familiar faces (and some pros, of course). Oh, I forgot to mention, I chatted with Hoyt on the way to baggage claim for a few minutes, mostly about Hellmuth and the TOC. hehe... The poker room opened up at about 8:30 (they don't usualy have poker here - it's only for this), and bdawg andI played in a $100 SNG to get things started. I ended up busting out in the middle of the pack when my AQs ran into KK (from a guy who had reraised all in successfully twice already). bdawg is still in it. I've got 20% of him, so he's a lock to cash :D That's all for now. bdawg plays in Flight 1 (tomorrow). I'll be playing in the $300 side tourney tomorrow night. P.S. Sorry if I have more typos than usual - I hate typing on my laptop. |
officially envious
You're trip reports always fucking rock. Looking forward to more. Have fun man!
|
That's funny.... Just after I posted this, my boy Sdouble (Josh Sciame - 2nd place finisher in Aruba) came over to say hello. I'm in the hotel lobby right now, since the WiFi doesn't reach our room.
I like that kid. He's on his way to BUY IN to the touney right now. Pretty funny, considering the last time I saw him, he literally had $0 (yes, ZERO) and one TalkingPoker.com poker chip in his wallet. He was backed for the Aruba tourney, but even so, half a $440k (or whatever it was) is a pretty nice bankroll boost. |
bdawg just got here. And I quote, "Are you ever gong to win me money???"
hehe - thanks for the 80 bucks, sucker! (He chopped with one other guy). |
Seems like you're having a fab time already. Maybe you'll end up finding that SANE female you're trying so hard to find lol ;)
Have fun and gl to you! P.S. If you happen to read a few long threads; start from the end post and move on up. This way you won't get as stressed out or upset with me. :o |
Wow nice. I wish i cud be there sounds like so much fun. Where could i get one of those TP chips??

My day has been pretty annoying. Poker-wise, anyway. Atlantis rules :)
The tourney started at noon, and bdawg has hovered around the starting 10k mark all day. He was down to 7200ish at one point and up in the 11 or 12k range too. That;s more than a lot of people can say. The last time I walked past Daniel Negreanu, he was pushing in for his remaining 1500 chips (the blinds are 300-600 now). Anyway, I decided to play in a some cash games. I wanted 2/4 NL, but the 5/10 opened up first, so I figured, why not? I bought in for $600, and promptly lost in with KK. I reloaded for another $600 and promptly lost it, ALSO with KK (not 5 minutes later). I bought in for $600 more, and guess what? This time it was with QQ, at least. All three hands had me pushing in with an overpair, and not once did I actually have the best hand when the money went in. You've gotta love that. Am I a donkey? Am I unlucky? Maybe a bit of both, if you ask me. Hand #1: 2 callers in front of me, so I bump it to $60, figuring that will be enough. SEVEN people take the flop of T97. Not a bad flop for my hand, but pretty scary. It checks to the player to my right who bets $300 of the $500 or so he has left in front of him. I put him on a draw, but think I have the best hand, so I push in for my remaining $485, hoping to take him heads up with me having the lead. What I wasn't expecting was one of the EP checkers to call as well. He turned over T7 and the better turned over 88. A 6 came on the turn and the 88 tripled up. This guy (the 88) is a very solid player, btw, and I wasn't surprised to see a MOUNTAIN of hips sitting in front of him when I walked by a bit ago. Hand #2: This time I have the KK in the BB. One limper and the SB completes. We had been joking about how you needed to make a big raise to get anyone to fold, so I jacked it up $50 more. The limper called and the SB folded. Hey - at least I got it down to HU. The flop comes 789 - same deal as before, pretty much. I bet $100 and he min raises me to $200. Sure, he could have JT, but I think MHIG, so I call. I even check the blank turn to him (I'll give him his free card) and he bets again. This time I check raise all in, and he calls an turns over T6. Yes, that's right - T6. I have to admit, I didn't see that coming. Hand #3. That same donk limps and the donk to his left raises to $30 (he raised a LOT with junk), so I reraised to $90 with my QQ. One other players called and Donk #2 (the raiser) called as well, after MUCH thought - I knew he had his usual junk. The flop comes 889. I say "that's a good flop for my hand" and they check to me. I bet $300 of the $305 I have left in front of me, saying I wanted to save $5 so I could fold in case I got check raised. The caller folds and Donk #2 calls. He turns over J8. W... T..... F....??? So long $1800. I know I could have gotten off those or played them differently - more OR less aggressively preflop - whatever.... but for God's sake... I have to think KK vs T7/88, T6, and QQ vs. J8 are good matchups for me. Must I get outflopped on ALL OF THEM? *sigh* Signing up for today's $30 tourney was a mess (I can explain later), but it starts in a few minutes, and I THINK I'm going to get it, so I need to bolt. Here's hoping my luck changes a bit, ASAP... but I'm not holding my breath. P.S. My connection (from the room) sucks ass... hopefully this will go through. |
What is Bdawgs name so we can see who we're cheering on.
|
I wrote that just before 6:00... just got back now.
First, bdawg is out. I haven't seen him since he busted, and I think he's probably regretting how he played his final hand. A mid position player made a standard raise to 1800 (300/600 blinds) and bdawg pushed in from the BB for over 10k with AQ. The guy thought forever and finally called with AK and it held up. He had 20some thousand, so it ws about half of his stack to call. Meanwhile, my tourney was interesting. I decided to splash around a lot in the beginning (25-25 blinds to start), and doubled myself up with a bunch of small pots in no time. I had an above average stack for a long time until two interesting hands came up. In one of them, a good player raised from LP and I called from the BB with 77. You know how much I "love" 77. The flop came down 955, and I checked (thinking I had the best hand). He surprised me with a check behind me. The turn was a 4, and put 3 diamonds on the board. One of my 7s was a diamond, btw. I decided to fire out a nice sized be here and he went into the tank. After thinking for a while, he pushed in. I was pretty sure he had high cards, like AJ or AT with a diamond, bu then I talked myself out of it and really thought he had TT with a diamond for some reason. Maybe 88 with a diamond. I couldn't figure out why he checked the flop with eiher of those hands though, but I knew if I called and he did have one of those hands, I'd be in really bad shape. I had him outchipped, but decided to fold anyway. He told me later he had AJ with the Ad. Eh.... I folded the best hand, but he had a LOT of outs. Not much later, an EP donkey limped in (I saw this guy LIMP-RERAISE all in with AQo, ATs, and I think 44 or something equally insane - and he kept winning, even when he was getting in against AK with his AT (he made a flush), etc. I saw AKs and wanted to isolate (and hopefully set him up to reraise all in on me), so I made a healthy reraise. Well, the BB pushed in. Donk thinks for a minute and CALLS. Dammit. I put the BB on a pair, but not AA or KK and the donl could have anything, but I was hoping I had him dominated. I decided to call. The BB had 88 and the donk had JTo (????). The flop brought a Jack... and an 8 of course.... and I didn't get the runner runner straight I called for. This put a huge dent in my stack, and all of a siddne I was short. I hung on forever, picking up a couple of pots here and there, but with the blinds and antes, my stack was headed south. After losing yet another coinflip, the dealer started pushing my stack to the other player, and I said "Hold up. Count that." The table all though he had me covered too, but I said "Settle down. I've got him." I had 275 chips left :) After posting my 75 chip ante the next hand, I went all in with KQ (the best hand I had seen in ages) and actualy doubled up (and then some) against A3. Then my A8 held up against 22, and before I knew it, I was over 4000 chips again. When I was down to 200 (1/2 of a B), there were 28 players left and only 20 made the money. I ended up bubbling, but not in the 21 spot. I finished 11th (one spot off the final table and a money increase). All in all, I can't complain. $485 gross on a $300 buy in. It's nothing compared to the mess from earlier today, but it felt good to play well in a tourney. Tomorrow is a $500... I'm starving, so that's all for now. |
I don't think he wants me to say, so I won't. That will be up to him to reveal, if he chooses to do so... Plus, he's out anyway :(
|
Aw, that's too bad! I missed the middle post at first, and thought he was just out of the $100 SNG.
Enjoy the rest of the Bahamas now the pressure's off, Dawg! |
I'm in the lobby right now... this is insane. There are at lest a dozen other laptops, all with people playing online poker. The best part is that people are railing each other. JohnnyBax just got a round of pplause when he took down a tourney, "leggy" made $9000 in tourneys right here today, P0ker H0, SassyTexas, Shawn Rice, etc, etc - all here. Not to mention a bunch of people I don't really know.
Oh, and that Daniel Negreanu guy is sitting right there (*looks 25 feet in 1:00 direction*) playing what looks to me to be Gin Rummy with someone I don't recognize. Freaking crazy, isn't it? One thing I may not have mentioned yet - we all have meal plans included with our stay. Breakfast, lunch and dinner... $50 buffets, nice restaurants - Appetizer, Salad, Main Course, Desert all included. Are you kidding me? If I ONLY gain 10 pounds by the time I get home, it will be a miracle. |
MAN I need to get to one of these events FAST :(
|
TP video sighting:
LOL. It's like a bad "Where's Waldo?" |
Nice Red shirt, what is on the front?
Did you get any gear to where from the site that you won your entry from? |
Nothing on the front of the shirt. Didn't win an entry, so no gear for me. bdawg's gift bag was SICK though. Made me jealous. I'm gonna have to try to get my hands on one :)
|
You have gotta be the unluckiest guy with KK that I know. That's just sick! Have fun man!
|
I just chatted with Daniel to see what game he was playing. It's called "Mille," and looks to be a version of Rummy. He pointed me to his web site for the rules, which are here:
|
I looked through all the videos and didn't spot you, which one is it?
|
The one I linked too. It's noting big - just me walking by in the background of the John Phan interview.
|
Well I needed the RealPlayer plugin in order to view it and I downloaded it and still nothing. Can't seem to view that particular page. Hmm...the things I do for you . Ah well...will keep on working at it. Maybe it's not firefox friendly or something. Edit: Ok finally got it...you must have been the one with the red t'shirt and cap with coffee cup in hand. Am I right? |
Just saw the clip.... Yes that was TP with coffee in hand!
|
How did you cost Danny N. money? How much?
|
Tough break
Well congrats on your back-from-the-dead tourney finish.
The 5/10 NL game was harsh. When reading this is I was thinking that 600 seems low for a buy-in to a game of the size (In order to get my mind around playing for those stakes, I have to translate it to .50/$1, for which I'd want to sit with 100 dollars rather than 50. Or, in your case, $1000 dollars instead of $500!) But it doesn't seem like it would have made a difference, just would have ended up costing you more. It boggles my mind that you get guys calling $90 bets (9x the big blind!) pre-flop with J8. Regardless, what a hell of a trip. |
Gl. :)
|
so are you playing in this TP or what?
|
Am I playing in what? Have you been reading the thread?
|
I don't drink coffee. It was water :)
Yesterday's update coming soon... |
Being it was in a styrofoam cup I said coffee. Since when don't you drink coffee? Or do you just not have a taste for it? And btw...you planning on hitting the beach at any time? Some video of that would be nice. :p
|
It's embarrassing. :o
Will explain later. |
It was actualy a clear plastic cup. I've never been a coffee drinker. As for the beach, was going to go yesterday, but it was crappy out. I'ts sunny today, but there is poker to be played. You know how it goes.
I'm hoping to go diving on Tuesday, and maybe Monday too. Depends how well I do in these remaining tourneys. Which leads me to my next post... |
So.... yesterday's tourney.
$460+40. Swapped 10% with bdawg and 5% with P0ker H0, who told me he was going to win it. 10 or 15 minutes later, he was out after moving in with his overpair 99 and getting called by A3 (pair of 3s) on the flop, only to see another 3 come on the river. Interesting call. bdawg got al his money in with a flopped wheel (A2 - 345 board) against 66... naturally a 2 came on the turn and that was the end of him. For me, the tourney started off exactly opposite how the one the day before did for me. I lost some chips when I raised with AQ and someone moved in. I laughed and folded and he showed AK. At least he was nice enough to let me off cheap. A bit later, my KQ ran into AK. The flop was K rag rag, and I was able to get off it, but it cost me some chips too. the next thing I know, I'm down to 500 chips with pretty much no wiggle room any more (we started with 1500). I hung on and played solidly, picking up some small pots, and basically just surviving. It was still really early. By the break (three 30 minute levels), I still only had 500ish chips and the blinds were 50/100. They moved up to 50/100 with a 25 ante, and I tripled up (I forget with what, but I had the best hand). Then I got moved to another table. I continued to play solidly and built myself a decent stack. Got up to 6000, and as high as 7000ish, I think. Hung around that level forever, as other people kept dropping. We started with 140 players or so, and 20 would cash. 11-20th got $1000 each, and then it went up from there, with $20k going to the winner. With 200/400 blinds and a 50 ante, I raised to 1200 from the button with 66. The BB pushed in on me and I was certain he had overcards, but I just couldn't call for 2/3 of my remaining stack. I would have been down to like 1200-1500 chips left, I think, so I let it go. He told me later he had KJ but knew I couldn't call. That stung. Maybe I hsould have just pushed in from the button, but the SB ad a mountain of chips, and I didn't want to risk him waking up with a hand. Anyway, the next thing I know, I was short stacked again, and we were down to 24 players. I moved in 2-3 times before the bubble, picking up the blinds and antes uncontested each time. When we got to Hand For Hand play, only one guy was shorter stacked than me... At one of the other tables, a guy got all in with J5o (yes, that's right) against AA who had him covered. The money went in on the flop, when he had 3rd pair (5), and sure enough, he hit a J on the turn. Disgusting. Did I mention that he went on to win the entire tournament??? That's right, he should have bubbled, and instead he took down $20,000+. Meanwhile, I witnessed one of the worst plays I have EVER seen at at the other table. The short stack was down to 1000 chips after folding both of his blinds. The blinds were 400/800 with a 100 ante at this point. With 900 chips left, everyone folded to him on the button and he moved in. The SB completed, and the BB went into the tank. The SB said to him, quite obviously, "It's 100 more for you to call his ALL IN bet." With everyone standing around and watching now (because he took so damn long), the BB made a big raise. The SB threw his cards into the muck in frustration and then the idiot BB turned over 73o. W T F ? ? ? The entire room erupted. He bluffed into a dry side pot, ON THE BUBBLE, with garbage. He managed to suck out and hit a 7, but come on.... what a joke. So, I was in the money. With my stack dwindling and the BB coming, I pushed in with 67 from UTG. I got one caller, who had AK. My cards were live until the river, but the AK (who had 300 chips more than me) held up and I was out. 20th place - $1000 cash. I'll take it. Paid the same as 11th. Had I won that pot, btw, I would have had > 9000 chips... the guy who took me out went on to finish 5th, and was actually chip leader at one point. All in all though, I'm happy with another fairly big live tourney cash. That's 2 for 2 for me here, and 4 of my last 5, dating back to the WSOP. I'll be playing in another $500 tourney tonight. |
Oh, one more crazy hand to write about: This was earlier in the tourney... A weak player raised the 100/200 blinds to 600 from MP. It folds around to me in the BB, and I look down and see KT. I look up to take a look at what's in the pot, and I see the entire deck being shuffled, including the raiser's cards!!! What the hell? "Um - excuse me," I say. the TD gets called over, and he makes an incorrect ruling. He gives the raiser the pot, but gives me my BB back. I didn't want to make a big stink about it, but because I had the only non mucked cards, that pot should have been mine. It's each players responsibility to protect their cards. I pulled him aside later and explained that he had made the wrong ruling, and he immediately realized it and felt terrible. I told him it was cool, but just for future reference ,etc... And who knew how much I could have used those 700 chips later on, ya know?
|
Shows us that there really is some poor players even playing in the live games,,,,Well done TP an absolute great piece of writting and nice to see your on form. |
I think his point is are you playing in the big $7,800 buy in event?
I have not seen your name there anywhere. |
No. I have no idea why you guys would think that. I definitely would have mentioned it, and probably wouldn't have time to be playing in these little side events, right?
I'm out of tonight's (damn straight). Going to play some "cards" now - will post a recap later. |
So... today's tourney was going great. I doubled my chip stack through good play (small pots, mostly) in no time. I played fairly tight after that, and bounced my stack around a bit. I took a couple of guys out, but also made two BIG folds to one other player at the other end of the table. I didn't mind though - I knew I was just setting him up for later. Go ahead - keep popping my raises with your all in bets. I'll get ALL THOSE CHIPS back sooner or later.
Anyway, things were going well, until this hand came up... and keep in mind, I have a fairly tight image at this point. With 3 or 4 limpers in front of me (100/200 blinds), I call from the button with 64. The flop comes 335 and it check all the way around to me (6 players in the hand, I think). I decided to take a card off and check as well. The turn is a beautiful looking 2, and I know I have he best hand. They check around to me again, and I fire 450 into the pot. ----- Hey - here comes Barry Greenstein. And Jennifer Harmon has been sitting right oer there (looks to left) all night, and Amir Vahedi was actually siting right THERE (chair to my right) for a long time, helping SassyTexan (UB player), who he had never met, with a tourney she was playing in. How great is this place? Seriously.... ----- Anyhoo, where was I? Ah, yes, I bet 450 fter someone said "that card didn't help anyone," knowing it would look like a positional bet and that I'd probably get some action. The SB folded and the BB pushed in (hello!). everyone else folded and was very surprised when I insta-shoved my stack in. I knew I had the best hand and he either thought his 3 was good or I would fold, since I was "stealing." He proudly turns over his 39 and I say, "Well, I've got a straight." So, naturally, the turn was a 5, and he filled up on me. This crippled my stack (put me down to like 3 BB), and when I pushe din with A7s a couple of hands later, KQ took me out after he made trips. Gotta love it. That was a bit frustrating, to say the least. Oh, and I swapped 5% with P0ker H0 again, and tonight he lasted 23 minutes. hehe....Silly man got all in with AA vs A4 (dinner plans apparently), and QJ. WTF? Two fours hit the flop and he was out. Sick... Tomorrow is a $1000 tourney that I plan on playing in, but I hard about a really sweet sounding "Battleship" thing they might be doing in the morning. I need to get the details. What I heard though is they want people to bring their laptops and they will set the up across from each other, Battleship style. Each person will play the other one Heads Up and go through a bracket or something. Then they'll replay the finals or something on Poker Stars sometime. Sounds awesome. The buy in (I heard) is $1000. Ehh..... If it was $500, I'd do it in a flash, but $1000...... not sure. I'm going to look into it and decide. Sounds wicked fun though. Playing HU online, but with the ability to look your opponent in the face! What a cool idea. TP out. |
Read this:
I need your advice. Should I play in it? Sounds pretty sweet, doesn't it? I think I just might need to go for it. |
FYI - I AM playing in this today. We are supposed to start at 11:00. You should all be able to watch on Stars.
Here's hoping I don't embarrass myself too much :) |
New start time is 1:15.
We're on. |
Damn... that was awesome. I'm really glad I decided to go for it, despite my weak showing.
Chatted with Grinder a bit... he told me he plays these ALL THE TIME online. $5000 and $2000 ones. He says he usually does the $2k ones, because there is a lot less variance. He doesn't keep track, but he guesses he has a 2:1 win rate. That's sick. So, I'm out, and I missed the start of the $1000 NL tourney, so I guess I'm done for the day. Maybe I'll enjoy Atlantis, or maybe I'll get in the 4:30 tourneys nd watch football here in the lobby. Hmmmmmmmm... |
Right now, I am siting in the lobby at a table with Patrik Antonius:
He's "learning" HiLo, right now... playing $300/$600 on UB. This is the only game he loses at, apparently, so he's working on it so he can play in "The Big Game." Think about that for a minute. Did I mention that I am just sitting here, shooting the shit with this guy right now? |

Evelyn Ng just walked in here. My God, she looks good. Definitely the best looking female poker player. And I say that with "Jennicide" sitting about 20 feet that way.
Here's a pic of me and the Mizrachis from the HU tourney earlier... |
