WSOP Fantasy League (Free, Lots of Prizes)

Blibbity found this league, being run by . (If you don't have a Full Tilt account yet, please join through my link in the first sentence). Here is the URL to their Fantasy League:

They have individual prizes for each WSOP event, plus overall prizes - Full Tilt gear, freeroll entries, and eventually even a seat to the 2007 WSOP. It's free and only takes seconds to join and then as long as you want to make your picks.

You can make picks for EVERY event, but you certainly don't have to, as they are scored individually... so even if you don't get in in time for today's event, you can still play along for the rest of the WSOP.

BB also made a TPF League for each of us to enter:
League Name - TPF Forum
Password - TPF101TPF202

So hurry up and join and get your picks in for today's event. This should be fun.

Nikita 06-27-06 01:56 PM

Well, I'm in. I can handle a free WSOP league.

X-Longshot-X 06-27-06 02:16 PM

I feel that i should point out that there are two, TPF forum and TPF league, which is ours

Robbie Robb 06-27-06 02:37 PM

Hmm...I joined the TPF Forum one - the TPF League wasn't there before.

Talking Poker 06-27-06 03:05 PM

Agreed. I joined the original. Not sure who made us another one...?

X-Longshot-X 06-27-06 03:42 PM

IDK but the league is the one with people from here i think...idk what the forum is...

Talking Poker 06-27-06 04:37 PM

Well, maybe people are joining both, but it was originally the "Forum" one - that's what BB set up and that's what I joined. I'm not in the other one.

BlibbityBlabbity 06-27-06 05:41 PM

TPF Forum is the one. There are 6 of us all from the forum in it.

The other one has a TON of people in it and it has the SAME password??? Weird, It was simple but that is strange. There is another "TPF" League theat has events on PokerStars. Perhaps that is their fantasy group as well.

Talking Poker 06-27-06 05:51 PM

You really should have named our league "Talking Poker" - are you able to change it now?

Reel Deal 06-27-06 05:52 PM

In.

thrash1294 06-27-06 06:12 PM

So I need to reload full tilt to play in this?

Talking Poker 06-27-06 06:25 PM

Um, no.

"Free" = no money needed to play. You just have to have an account.

BlibbityBlabbity 06-27-06 07:37 PM

tried - no dice....

Talking Poker 06-28-06 12:13 PM

The biggest problem with this league, IMO, is the fact that not all players will be playing in all events. With some many overlapping events, it;s going to be a real pain to try to make good picks. Oh well.

Just a reminder that even though we started yesterday, you can still join now (or later), as this is scored on a Event by Event basis, in addition to overall.

lightfungus 06-28-06 01:38 PM

Guess I have to get around to getting full tilt. Will do once I have access to it from home.

Reel Deal 06-28-06 05:22 PM

My team is in for Event #4.

Anyone else in?

Robbie Robb 06-28-06 06:45 PM

Haven't made my picks for event #4 yet. Going to wait until the stacks are counted tonight to see who is still playing #3. Although I do see some people, such as Carlos Moretenson (sp?), are playing both #2 and #3 - I'm guessing he played the first two hours of #3 today, then sat out to finish up #2 and then will go back to #3.

Talking Poker 06-28-06 07:18 PM

Crazy, isn't it??? But that must be what they are doing.

I can't believe they had 500 ALTERNATES for the first real event (Event #2). That is SICK. Sucks to be you if you didn't preregister.

Robbie Robb 06-28-06 07:23 PM

man.... I wouldn't be surprised AT ALL to see the ME hit 10K. That's gonna be some crazy sick payday for the winner.

Talking Poker 06-28-06 10:51 PM

I can't even imagine. It's gonna be GREAT.

Apparently, they are doing the breaks in shifts now.... first, one half of the room gets a 15 minute break and then the second half gets the next 15 minutes. There were serious issues (massive lines) around the bathrooms last year, so I assume this is to try to prevent that.

It's just crazy having THAT many poker players all in one place.

Robbie Robb 06-28-06 11:33 PM

Man, so envious right now. I don't have a realistic shot of going this year (the UB Freeroll is really my last shot, although I suppose I could start hammering whatever's left of the FTP freerolls) but man I wish I was going. Some year....

Reel Deal 06-29-06 05:37 PM

I've made my picks through Event #11.

Talking Poker 06-29-06 06:03 PM

I forgot to make my picks today. Ooops. Guess I have yesterday's lineup in or something. Not sure how it works.

It's pretty tough to pick in advance, not knowing who many not even be in the event. Not everyone plays all the events, even if they aren't in another one at the same time.

Nikita 06-29-06 06:33 PM

I've just picked a team and decided to run with it. I'm too lazy to figure out who will actually be playing or not. And I'm also more concerned with the main event as well.

Robbie Robb 06-29-06 06:41 PM

If I'd have realized that today's event was a limit event, I'd have made some more drastic changes to my lineup than what I did make. That'll teach me to pay attention.

But yeah TP, if you don't make a change, they just go with your most current roster.

Talking Poker 06-29-06 07:10 PM

Are you sure, or do you have to actually submit it? I guess we'll know soon enough.

Robbie Robb 06-29-06 07:47 PM

From the 'My Summary' page:

Robbie Robb 07-02-06 12:02 PM

Okee....For some reason it's showing me as not having made any picks for Event 6. I don't know if that means that the picks didn't carry over or they did carry and will fill in when it's time to calculate points.

So I've now gone through and made my picks thru event 11.

There is an interesting bug though in their software it seems - it doesn't appear if anyone can see my picks. If you click on the 'view picks' for me, instead of getting your picks beside mine, you'll get a message at the top saying something along the lines of 'cannot find user robbie' and then just your picks below. I *think* it's most likely because of the space in my user name.

Reel Deal 07-04-06 07:49 AM

Sorry that it's hard to read. Here's the actual page:

Robbie Robb 07-04-06 08:16 AM

Hey RD,

That's just for event #5 - that doesn't include the previous events. For others, go to that link RD provided and change the dropdown to 'Overall Fantasy Dollars'.

Here's the list:
So, as you can see, Blib is kickin' our asses but one event can turn that around...

Talking Poker 07-05-06 02:55 AM

One of the things I find most interesting about this is how many pros don't cash. I mean, I knew this, but it's actually kind of reassuring to see that when picking 15 of the best poker players in the world, it's quite common for 12, 14, or even all 15 of them to not even CASH, let alone go deep.

Robbie Robb 07-05-06 07:11 AM

I think that part of that reason is simply that whatever table they land at, EVERYONE is automatically gunning for them. Sure, the idea is to knock everyone out, but I bet that there are more people willing to take risks by pushing when someone like Raymer or Hellmuth (especially Hellmuth) makes a proper-sized raised. It really seems to limit the number of hands that the big names can actually play in. I think this is detrimental to people like Negreanu and Farha who play pretty much anything.

Sure, it would be great to make the money in any event, but think of the story you have (once you embellish it a bit) if you send Hellmuth to the rail and start him off on one his trademark tantrums.

Reel Deal 07-05-06 08:21 AM

Doh. Thanks RR.

Talking Poker 07-05-06 01:18 PM

Maybe... but what about the flop side? There are people who are intimidated by the big name players and who will be more likely to lay down a pretty big hand against them. Not only that, but what you are suggesting means it's MORE likely that they will get paid off when they have the goods.

I'm confident that this goes both ways, and pretty much evens out in the end.

Zybomb 07-05-06 02:55 PM

It's like what Howard Lederer said last year at the WSOP, everyone would just jump all over him everytime he bet or raised...he was getting played back at so much he just tightened up and let everyone come over the top of him with monsters (AA, Trip 9's etc) and double up through them... it took some readjustment

Robbie Robb 07-07-06 05:49 PM

What a difference one event makes...

Hellmuth's 2nd place clobbered us thanks to her having him as one of 'A' players. I had him as a 'C' player and Isabelle as a 'B' player. Too bad I didn't have both of them as 'A' players....

Talking Poker 07-07-06 11:51 PM

And I aparently didn't have either of them on my team. Whoops. :o

Reel Deal 07-08-06 10:00 AM

Just noticed that for event #5 I had 6 of my players cash... can anyone beat that?

BlibbityBlabbity 07-10-06 11:10 AM

Are you all playing in the freerolls that you are qualifing for? Each event has one for the top few hundred places. I am pretty sure I have been in some and not known it.....I thought it was top 100 but it looks like it is more than that. Nikita shoould be in a bunch now and is doing well toward a top overall spot too! gj

Nikita 07-10-06 11:27 AM

There's freerolls after each event?!! Well, crap, I guess that teaches me for not reading all the rules before signing up.

Robbie Robb 07-10-06 11:30 AM

OMG! I didn't even realize this! Shit! Last night was the freerolls for event #10 and event #12. The funny part is, I managed to finish 80th out of 500 for event #12 freeroll and I didn't even play!

Talking Poker 07-10-06 01:05 PM

Hmmm.... gues I forgot all about this.

Are the prizes worth playing for?

Robbie Robb 07-10-06 01:46 PM

For someone like me? Sure. $1000 Freeroll. The HORSE will have a $5K freeroll and the ME has a $10K Freeroll. For someone playing at higher stakes? Guess if you're really really bored....

That said, you and RD are both registered for the event going off tonight at 9:15pm Eastern.

Reel Deal 07-10-06 02:51 PM

LMAO!! I was going to look for a couple MTTs to play in tonight. Looks like one found me... I'm game. Thanks RR and BB.

Talking Poker 07-10-06 02:56 PM

Yes, I noticed. I'll give it a look if I'm around. Maybe I'll end up at a table with everyone else sitting out. That's always fun.

Reel Deal 07-10-06 03:26 PM

Man the site for this sure is down a lot. Blastpromo.com is going to lose this gig if they can't get their shit together.

Talking Poker 07-10-06 09:39 PM

So, I had forgotten all about the freeroll thing agin... but fortunately, I was playing at Full Tilt when it started and it popped up.

My table was completely empty EXCEPT for the person sitting to my right. Luckily for me, she was wicked passive and folded most of the time, allowing me to take the Blinds. Eventually, I busted her (see below) and had the table to myself for a few hands....

Then some tool came along and sat there, thinking he could play with me. Ask N1kita how that worked out for him.

Wow. Allen Cunningham really ended up kicking my ass in the standings. While, okay, not HIM per se, just all the people that had him as their 'A' or 'B' players. I'm hangin' onto 2nd by the very ends of my fingernails here...

I hope my HORSE picks pan out really good!
