TPF League III Interest List and Suggestions...

The deal will be about the same as last time:

(See details in that thread)

Quick summary:

We'll have 20 Events on - 2 per week for 10 weeks... One every Sunday night (no more Saturday tourneys) and one on T, W, or Th night each week. 9:30 PM ET.

The league fee will be $10 per person. You can play in the events without being in the league, but to have your points count and to be eligible for the prizes (and the Tournament of Chamnpions!) at the end, you need to pay your entry fee first.

I'll kick in some extra cash and/or prizes. I'm not sure exactly what, but I'm thinking I'll put up $100 for the TOC, and maybe throw in a sweatshirt for the overall League Winner.

Other than not having any Saturday tourneys, I also suggest the following changes for this time around: Let's mix in some different games. My suggested breakdown:
14 NLHE
1 Limit HE
1 Omaha (PL)
1 Omaha H/L (limit)
1 Stud (limit)
1 Stud H/L (limit)
1 HORSE (if they offer them by them - cross your fingers)

This will still make the league very Hold'Em focused, but I think it would be fun to TRY some of these other games, even if it's just once each. I'd be ok with more of each, but I'd rather ease these in and see how people react to them this first time around, rather than going crazy with the mixed games.

The other suggestion I'd like to make it to only count the Top 8 scores for each person, instead of 10. This should make the league a bit more competitive, and more fair for those who have to miss tourneys. Last time, no one scored 10 times. Only N1kita scored 9 times, but a few people were in the 7-8 neighborhood:

Ok, those are my thoughts. Let's have this thread be both an interest list and a discussion thread for other ideas. I'd like to get things finalized and the schedule out by the end of the month, with the intent of kicking off the league in September and running into November, hopefully wrapping up before U.S. Thanksgiving.

Oh, and yes, I plan on winning. Again.

jaeh00d 08-17-06 03:19 AM

Yea I like these dates you picked out better than the last. Yes, I am interested, and I wouldnt mind to see few more Omaha and Stud Hi/LO events. But we need to come to an agreement as a whole.

eejit101 08-17-06 03:20 AM

I like the mixing of the games idea, the thing is will some people who might play in this league pay $10 to play Stud H/L split for the first time? just a thought.

The top 8 scores is good, less emphasis on playing all 20, but also more incentive, as youll need some better finishes to be higher.

The satirday games were low, so pure weekdays and sundays is a good plan.

Maybe kick the entry up to $20? as for 20 games at $10 a game, thats $200, and that was just about the total pool from the whole thing, just reckon itd be alot better if the prizes were higher for the end finishes.

Like i said, just some input, i prolly wont be able to play here by then, just offering my 2 cents

Talking Poker 08-17-06 03:25 AM

Bumping the entry fee to $20 sounds great to me, actually.... I'll be interested to see others' reaction to that suggestion especially.

jaeh00d 08-17-06 03:27 AM

that was actually a suggestion of mine around last year and everyone agreed on 10. I never ended up playing a single event with you guys due to my schedule. But I look forward to it this year. But $20 dollars seems ideal

melioris 08-17-06 07:38 AM

$20 per event or total?

jaeh00d 08-17-06 07:56 AM

bumping the entry fee in itself to $20...

Robbie Robb 08-17-06 09:00 AM

Yeah, a $20 entry fee sounds really good. My only other suggestion is to drop 1 NLHE event and add a second HORSE event.

I'm definitely interested in joining (and almost certainly will). The only thing that is up in the air right now is my work schedule. I'm finally going back to work as my parental leave ends Sept. 5th. Hopefully I don't end up with a night shift...

As was sorta mentioned in the chat last night - if Blib isn't around to keep track of/update the points, I'd be happy to step in and look after that as well.

melioris 08-17-06 11:18 AM

Hail to the king, baby

I like all of the proposed chances, esp Robbie’s idea of switching a NL for another HORSE event. I am definitely in for the league.

I am a frequent Canada basher (mostly out of envy) but serious, a year paternity leave is awesome. I am jealous.

Now, some facts about the upcoming league:
1). I am one of the weaker players on this site.
2). I will be lucky to make it to 8 events total.
3). The 9:30 start (perfect imo) is early for most of you degenerate losers, whereas I am wiped out and ass-dragging by then, even if it is 8:30 for me.
4). By the end of the 10-week league, you will all bow before me and thank me for gracing you with my cyber-presence.

Quint 08-17-06 11:35 AM

I like easing the other games in. Count me in.

studiopet 08-17-06 12:26 PM

Of course - count me in.

BlibbityBlabbity 08-17-06 12:48 PM

12 NLHE
1 Limit HE
1 Omaha (PL)
1 Omaha H/L (limit)
1 Stud (limit)
1 Stud H/L (limit)
1 RAZZ (Limit)
2 HORSE (if they offer them by them - cross your fingers)

Razz and HORSE have to be coming since there are events in the WCOOP, right? I hope they get them up very soon so we can check out the structure (it should be 1000% better then FT's structure for them).

I REALLY like the idea of the other games being included. One thing (especially O8B, and S8B) is that we will want to make sure that people are going to play in all the different events. Some of the games would really suck with only 3-4 players. If everyone will be giving them a shot, then it should be a great time.

lightfungus 08-17-06 01:02 PM

Count me in!

Zybomb 08-17-06 01:40 PM

I like the idea of the different events (although I will get blown away at Omaha). Is it just me or wasnt stars talking about adding pineapple as well along with razz and horse? IF so, why not add 1 pineapple event, if not then ignore this.

Im down -- but Im not sure how many events I'll be able to make (last league I wasnt too good) bc of work schedule

Zybomb 08-17-06 01:42 PM

Is the Final Table NLHE for these events? :p

kkirk1329 08-17-06 02:04 PM

ill probably end up playing in some of these but not paying the 20$ entry fee, to rich for my blood

Talking Poker 08-17-06 03:05 PM

To clarify.... the weekly entry fees will still be Stars' minimum, which is $10. The LEAGUE entry fee (100% of which goes to the prize pool at the end) will be $20. If people are willing to spend $220 on entry fees (for all 20 events), they should be able to kick in $20 to the league as well. Last time around, we paid that money to the top 4 spots, and I think it worked great.

As for these other suggestions of adding another HORSE event and a Raxx event, etc- I'm totally cool with that, but you need to realize that these are NOT options at Stars right now. If they become options, great, but right now, these are not offered for Private tourneys.

My new and improved suggestion is to set up the schedule like so:
Sunday nights - NLHE
Week nights - Mostly Mixed Games

We'll set up the schedule so the last few weeknights are NLHE, but if Stars adds Razz/HORSE, we can change them there.

How does that sound? Would you guys rather have Sunday night or the weeknight being NLHE? I think since that tourney is always on Sunday, having it always be NLHE is the way to go. Then, the floating tourney during the week can change from one game to the next.

Also, you guys do agree that those all need to be limit (other than the PLO), right?

jillaj 08-17-06 03:17 PM

Even though I only managed to play in a few events last time I am in again. Hopefully my memory is better this time.

New Guy 08-17-06 03:36 PM

I think the sunday change is huge !!!! I think it should be sunday nl and weekdays a mix. Count me in and the 20$ is good .Might as well have a bigger prize pool.Looking forward to it.I hope this show doesnt screw me on the weekdays.Mabey I'll play while im out on location with ari and E

Talking Poker 08-17-06 04:17 PM

"Ari and E?" Are we supposed to know what that means?

Kurn 08-17-06 04:20 PM

Sounds good to me. How many people do these usually get?

Talking Poker 08-17-06 04:22 PM

See last time's for exact counts.

But we typically would average 10-15 per event.

jillaj 08-17-06 04:27 PM

It's from the show Entourage.

omahilo 08-17-06 04:27 PM

looks good... I would consider playing some of these events, depends on my schedule.

Also I like 2 HORSE tournies and 1RAZZ tourney. Im in the minority and like the other games better than NLHE.

I also want to suggest possible TWO PLHE tournies and one LIMIT HE tourney. I prefer these two HE games to NLHE. I like PLHE because you have to play after the flop. in ALLIN (NL) HE you dont have to play after the flop. Limit HE is a fun game as well.

10 NLHE
2 PLHE
2 HORSE
1 LHE
1 PLO8
1 PLO
1 RAZZ
1 STUD
1 STUD8

Well thats about all I got.

Talking Poker 08-17-06 04:32 PM

Excellent suggestion. I have no problem adding PLHE to the list. LHE is already on there.

Do you really want PLO8, or limit O8?

Kurn 08-17-06 04:32 PM

That's fine. I get up at 5:15 AM for work, so if these were shaping up as 4 or 5 hours to finish in the top 3, it'd be tough to commit to too many, but now it looks more like 3 hours max.

omahilo 08-17-06 04:36 PM

\

Either Omaha8 game is fine with me, whatever you guys decide on. I missed limit HE being on the list, just assumed all the HE was NLHE.

BlibbityBlabbity 08-17-06 04:47 PM

GRRRR>.... better not be PokerStars!!!

BlibbityBlabbity 08-17-06 04:49 PM

either limit only or one of each, IMO

Talking Poker 08-17-06 04:58 PM

They are USUALLY over within 2 hours.... I don't know if any have made it past midnight, and if they have, it was barely and only after a long HU match.

Nikita 08-17-06 07:06 PM

I won't be in for this one. I've decided to take a break from poker, I don't plan on playing again until late September and it sounds like a lot of the games will occur in September. But for the ones in October and I'm not at work, I will be there. Although most of my poker experience is with NLHE and some LHE, I wouldn't mind sucking out on a few people in the other games.

meanness 08-19-06 01:12 AM

I'm no longer able to play Sunday nights, due to work, so I'm out this time around.

PShabi 08-19-06 02:08 AM

Sitting out.

No peer pressure, tp.

Talking Poker 08-21-06 11:20 AM

I'd like to get this scheduled, but honestly, right now I'm not sure we quite have enough interest.

Maybe we should wait until Stars confirms that we can play in these new events and plan this for an October start date...?

omahilo 08-21-06 11:40 AM

sometime during the winter would prolly be best since more people will be indoors.

Akverno 08-22-06 03:18 AM

Anybody else notice that our events being on Sunday might conflict with NFL games? Don't know how many people would have an issue with this, just thought I'd mention it. I'm in btw, as long as work cools down a bit before the league starts.

Talking Poker 08-22-06 12:50 PM

They conflict with ONE NFL game per week... It's not like the tourneys are during the middle of the day.

juiCe[3x] 08-25-06 07:49 PM

This sounds like fun and I'm interested in it. I think it would be great to have many different games and not just NLHE. Can anyone tell me how the standings and point system works?

Robbie Robb 08-25-06 07:54 PM

Here's the link to the last league: . Reading through the first post in that thread should give you an idea of how things are run in these leagues. We've made the above suggestions in an attempt to improve the fun of the league! Hopefully you'll stick around and play! Last league was GREAT fun!

juiCe[3x] 08-25-06 07:59 PM

Wow, that is really thought out and a great way to score people for the league standings. I read that you might change it to $20 league buy-in. Has it been changed or is it going to still be $10? I hope I'll be able to play in this league , because it looks like fun.

Robbie Robb 08-25-06 11:52 PM

Well, I don't think anything has been absolutely set in stone at this point but it seems as if the majority is currently in favour of a $20 league fee. As mentioned above, the individual events WILL remain at $10+1.

murkosk 08-26-06 04:22 PM

I dont think so.

I think 10$ each time is good for me :) I`ll participate(95%). Im from europe so it could be bit late for me 9.30 +6 hours, but...if there is no other way Im fine.. I have never played any other then holdem so Im not sure about it, but could be fun. Looking forward to this.

Robbie Robb 08-26-06 05:04 PM

Don't worry about not having played any of the other formats - very few of us have much time on the other tables. If you want to practice up though so that you at least get the basic idea of the others, I'd definitely recommend hitting up the play money tables for an orbit or two.

BrianSwa 08-28-06 09:04 PM

Im in

but if this starts next month I wont be playing next month seeing as I start work at 11pm. The month after that im switching to 7:30am to 4pm and will be able to make all the other ones.

$20 league fee sounds fine to me just let me know when to send it, $10 buy-ins is also great. Im about 95% sure im playing.

New Guy 08-29-06 02:11 PM

We're losing steam on this. I think we should start asap. As far as football games conflicting, cant you have a game on and play at the same time? I know its not wsop protocol but for our tourny it shouldnt be to hard to do.Lets fire this bad boy up or at least lets start some 1'ers like it was before the league.(when I won my book and name hehe) Mabey even bump it up to 50+5 every now and then. Just my 2 cents. This is New Guy from Talking Poker Radio saying I got the nutz goodnight!!!!

Robbie Robb 08-29-06 02:30 PM

New Guy's on to something here. Why don't we have a pre-season kick-off game in the form of...oh....let's say....a heads-up challenge? If we can schedule that for next week then maybe plan the league kickoff for a couple weeks after that? That way, we're almost in October so even if Brian (or others) has to miss the first couple events, they still have PLENTY of events left to get points in.

Talking Poker 08-29-06 07:01 PM

Works for me. Anyone can set up Private tourneys any time they want - it doesn't always have to be me, you know.

How about a warm up tourney (HU NLHE) next Tuesday night at 9:30 PM ET? Should be fun.

Robbie Robb 08-29-06 07:17 PM

9:30 next Tuesday works for me!

New Guy 08-30-06 10:26 AM

Assuming Im not working im WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY down for that . Should be a blast .Looking forward to that!

GeoffM 08-30-06 11:33 AM

I'd likely play in a couple of tournies (O8, Stud H/L, HORSE) but that's about it. I'd be dead money in the hold'em events which is why I don't wish to donate to the league. And for O8, I noticed it is limit which is probably a good thing as it gives beginners to the game a fair crack at taking it down. The differences between limit and PL O8 are vast.

I like the format you have chosen though. Eventually, it would be sweet if you played the HORSE schedule more, ie 5 holdem, 5 Omaha, 5 Razz, 5 Stud, 5 O8.

In sum, I will join the next league if you guys enjoy this format and are comfortable adding some additional "non-standard" games like stud and O8.
