November Thread: Goals, Winrates, Updates

My goals for November:

1. Play > 10,000 hands of NL cash game - 3/6 and up.
2. Qualify for the IRON level Iron Man Freeroll at Full Tilt again.
3. Make at least 4 Videos that you guys hopefully enjoy.
4. Win $10,000.

(I still don't really like monetary goals, but I guess you've got to shoot for something).

JDMcNugent7 11-01-06 02:28 AM

Well october was officially "take a shot month"
I didnt really grind at all, and just would sit 25/50NL and 100/200 Limit whenever the games looked half good. Surprisingly I won $ doing that, but it was WAY too swingy and I'm glad its out of my system.

This month I really want to 10 table 3/6 alot, and mix some maybe 6-8 tabling 5/10 in there. I wouldnt mind playing Some 10/20NL or some 30/60 Limit but I really just feel like grinding again this month and getting Lots of hands in ( 2k hands a day is pretty easy when 10 tabling).
Hopefully at 3/6 i can run at 4ptbb/100 or more, and at 5/10 I'd be happy with 3.5ptbb/100.

I want to continue to play good thinking poker, and not play on tilt. Maybe I could actually get some reading in this month too. The $ aspect should take care of itself.

omahilo 11-01-06 03:20 AM

1. Qualify for the Bronze and silver freerolls at FTP

2. Win $100+ dollars... this might be alittle small but I dont want make the goal too hard for myself, might change it if the month goes really well.

murkosk 11-01-06 04:20 AM

My goals!

1) Build up my account to 2000$
2) Qualify for EPT Coppehagen event.

eejit101 11-01-06 07:09 AM

2 = tough as i think they have stopped running;)

My goal is to not play anything but league games for 2 weeks.

BrianSwa 11-01-06 08:11 AM

ok

I got some.

1. playing in borgata's 50k garantee on the 10th and gonna play it twice most likley this month. Want to final table it at least once.

2. make enough in 2/4 limit live to be bankrolled for 1/2 nl

3. stay away from cash games online totally

4. play enough tourneys on stars to make a couple healthy withdraws.

5. win home game....again

6. have fun

non poker goal.

start on my list of most haunted places in Maryland visited. :)

sjay2k 11-01-06 08:18 AM

november goals:

play no poker until exams are finished (november 12)

other than that, meh.

bdawg31 11-01-06 10:47 AM

In mid-late-october i had to basically restart from scratch. It was a painful step - but I think its going to be one i am glad i made. Anyway, here are my goals for November (keeping in mind my 'start-over' roll was $300 - basically what i started with oh-so-long ago. My roll has grown a bit thorugh October).

1.) Play 5k hands of $50 NL short seated. That 5k hand goal might be a bit high since i will be missing some poker time over Thanksgiving and a couple of other weekends this month.

(btw - i know i am not ideally funded for this level. I dont need feedback on that. If i go broke, i plan on reloading next year)

2.) Get comfortable with 3 tabling $50 NL games. I am comfortable 2 tabling now and I am pretty sure i am ready for this step.

3.) Increase my bankroll. I dont want to set any monetary-specific goal here - i dont want to chase money. I just want to see an increase. Hmmm, i guess its silly to post this though since that is kinda obvious. Okay, i will pick a number - i am going to set my sights relatively low. How about...... $800 (i am at appx $540 right now).

4.) Work a bit more getting comfortable/confident with re-raising preflop with hands other than AA, KK and QQ. And knowing when i should and shouldn't do that.

5.) Get PAHUD running optimally and utilzing that data. I started using PT to serioulsy study my game in October and I think it has helped a lot. I have PAHUD downloaded - i just have to get it set up right.

melioris 11-01-06 11:53 AM

I feel like I made a break-through over the past couple of weeks in understanding what tilt means to me. For me it is a far subtler tweaking of my postflop thought process than I previously appreciated. Just playing 6-max was enough to turn a moderately successful full ring micro NL player into a 6-max micro NL post-flop action junkie. But I think I am getting a handle on it. So my goals are:

1). 7.5K hands of tilt-free $25NL 6-max
2). Take some shots at $50NL 6-max
3). Build my bankroll so that I am comfortable playing $50NL exclusively by the end of the month (30 buyins for me)
4). Be happy with the decisions I make, independent of the results.

eejit101 11-01-06 06:15 PM

see bold.

juiCe[3x] 11-01-06 06:54 PM

How is poker not fun?

BrianSwa 11-01-06 07:01 PM

well

if you saw my record on online cash games you would know why, as for tourneys online I have great record that is why I say win but yes you are right incorrect grammar . as for poker being fun.....sometimes.

eejit101 11-01-06 07:59 PM

poker is fun when your learning. Then when u play to win money, and only for that reason its less fun. The league is fun, but thats a donkament, so donkaments are fun, as are crazy cash games, as is huge tourneys, but griding = no fun

BrianSwa 11-01-06 08:10 PM

I disagree with this, what is more rewarding then starting with say $500 and grinding your way up the levels until your are looking at 4k. I plan on going to AC and grinding at 2/4 limit all day.

rounders quote "be careful though or your whole life will become a fucking grind"

grinding is exactly what I plan on doing.

juiCe[3x] 11-01-06 08:17 PM

I think poker is all fun  Grinding can get boring but I still have fun with it because I'll play a lot of tables and listen to music. :) You can also "Grind" while playing "donk"aments , which will be fun.

eejit101 11-01-06 08:27 PM

u cant grind playing donkaments. Skill = much less of a factor. Donkaments are for fun.

And yeah, u can play 2/4 all day and grind. After 1 week you will be so bored youll play BJ for a bit to mix it up. And brian, you never grind, youll get to $4k and hit the $100/$200:rolleyes: :D

juiCe[3x] 11-01-06 08:28 PM

I meant you can play tables, which you consider "grinding" and play tournaments at the same time.

eejit101 11-01-06 08:32 PM

true, tourneys are alot more fun than cash games, and something im better at. But playing it week in week out is boring as hell. Just ask JD

BrianSwa 11-01-06 08:38 PM

no

if I hit 4k I put 2,800 away for June then keep grinding until I get $4,500 then put that away to cover whole trip. I dont get bored at 2/4 limit, im very comfortable there. but I will play NL once im over 2k. But I never have sat at 100/200 my name isnt eejit.

juiCe[3x] 11-01-06 08:43 PM

Do you think the 4k / 8k cash game is a grind for Phil Ivey and he gets bored at it ? :p

Boobie Lover 11-01-06 08:52 PM

I like how the people that are commenting on the grind are just recreational players at best. Playing poker as my only job isn't exactly the most thrilling adventure and can become quite tedious at times.

As for goals,

BrianSwa 11-01-06 09:00 PM

while this is very very true boobie that dosent take away from the fact that I still think being able to grind out the bankroll is very important. I plan on protecting this bankroll I dont want repeats from past mistakes.

lightfungus 11-01-06 09:23 PM

Let's try this again.

1. Get roll to 6k
2. Cash in tourneys
3. Play in a FTOPS series or 2
4. Qualify for Bahamas
5. Read HoH1

My apologies for making a post in this thread that is on topic and not part of the eejitSWA[3x] debate (you guy are allowed to make new threads here instead of cluttering up unrelated ones, you know), but I have an update already:

I played 500 hands earlier today and lost 5 buy ins, so my #4 goal just got a little but more ambitious. By the end of it, I don't think I was playing well, and I walked away. Early on though and accounting for pretty much all the losses, it was just SICK. No matter what I flopped, they would chase their draw and get there. And if I flopped a big hand and a big draw (like my AA overpair with a nut flush draw to go with it), his flopped two pair (QJ) would hold up to scoop a $2100 pot. It was a bad session, to say the least.

Check out the attached graph and note the stackings. Keep in mind, had I won any of those, those drops would have been lines going UP at least twice as much as they went down. It just wasn't meant to be today.

Today would have been a good day to have a pinball machine in the house. IT would have been easier to walk away.

BrianSwa 11-01-06 09:52 PM

sorry will move any others to different thread.

juiCe[3x] 11-01-06 09:53 PM

My goals suck, but I might as well post them...

1. Play 5k hands at 0.05 / 0.10 - I know that is low but I'm trying to keep good bankroll Mangement.

2. Final table a Tournament

3. Win $200

4. Try to play in atleast one league event.

lightfungus 11-01-06 10:36 PM

I hate thinking about that. Having been stacked more times than I would like in the last 2 weeks, I can't help but look at the PT graphs and wonder what if...Good luck with the goals this month.

sjay2k 11-01-06 11:11 PM

Okay, from now on, i'm offering a $200 reward if anyone catches me playing poker until the 12th of November.

usernames: MyPetTurtle on Stars and FTP and LAGTARD on Pacific.

gotta study.

Talking Poker 11-01-06 11:29 PM

Define "catches you." Do we have to catch you in the act, or it is ok if we point it out later on that day?

Cause I wouldn't mind a free two hundey.

sjay2k 11-01-06 11:36 PM

Screenshot of me playing, hand history or Sharkscope screenshot (please note that the bunch of $100/$200 SNGs i recently played were before the above message).

Thanks guys

Quint 11-02-06 07:56 AM

Traveling a lot this month, and when I'm not traveling I've got a lot of time sensitive projects at work. therefore...

1. Get Pokertracker and get it configured.
2. Spend as much time analyzing my play as I do playing.

ashmc2 11-02-06 08:54 AM

I want to hit 1 grand by the end of the month. I also would like to get laid at least 4 times this month by the wife. Well hopefully I hit $1000 anyway.

BrianSwa 11-02-06 08:56 AM

had to make correction in mine, decided not to play this.

Nikita 11-02-06 09:02 AM

I haven't been playing as much poker as I used to lately. Mostly I'm only online when trying to clear a bonus. But here are mine.

1. Since I've been playing mostly cash games to clear the bonuses and I prefer tourneys. Play at least one tournament this month (excluding the TP league).
2. Play in at least one more league game.

Talking Poker 11-02-06 11:51 AM

haaaaaaaahahahahaha.

Best. Day. Ever.

Robbr25 11-11-06 12:24 AM

Now that is a good day !! Congrats !!

Talking Poker 11-11-06 02:06 AM

Damn, son... that's one hell of a day! I'll consider me asking you last night how you were doing for the month the GL that you needed!

I haven't played a single hand today. :(

But that's ok, cause I'm winning a PCA seat tomorrow and cashing in the Iron Man freeroll. Consider those bonus goals for my list.

eejit101 11-11-06 02:12 AM

Jesus. Christ.

I played 1,000 hands today at 2/4 NL. I won......$245. I suck

sjay2k 11-11-06 06:32 AM

exams are over, time to play (it's nov 11, but meh, contest closed)

Talking Poker 11-16-06 03:02 AM

Well, we're halfway through the month, so I guess it's time for an update. Wrapping up my worst day EVER right now, this update is gonna sting. Ugh. Today was really, really, really bad (down about $4000). I feel like I played ok for the most part, but I also missed damn near every flop for 600 hands (is that even possible???), and my opponents just clobbered me. The funny thing is, I didn't even have very many HUGE pots where I got stacked or anything... it was just a very annoying downward spiral all day long. On thing I have learned is that the good opponents at 5/10 NL are a LOT better than the good ones at 3/6. They are MUCH more aggressive, 3 and 4 betting regularly. This doesn't go so well with my style, where I like to be the aggressive one. No tilt, btw.

Anyway, enough crying... on to the goals:

1. I'll make this goal easily. I have 8800 hands logged - 2000 of 5/10 and all the rest 3/6.
2. This shouldn't be a problem either. I've only "missed" two days, meaning I can miss 3 more this month and still make it.
3. Hmmm... I think I've only made ONE so far in November. Guess I'm gonna need to get on that - I should have made one today instead of getting my ass handed to me all day long.
4. Yesterday, I was on pace for this. Today, not so much. I didn't quite piss away ALL of my winnings for the month, but I am up just $1700 now.... That's a LONG way from $10,000, but I can honestly say that I have been running pretty badly this month. Yes, it could definitely be worse (I had a couple of streaks where I ran well), but overall, I've definitely been running below average this month... at least I hope I have been.

Boobie Lover 11-16-06 10:56 PM

I've decided I need to work on my 8+ tabling skills. So, if you see me at a shitload of 2/4 tables, I'm not busto.

Talking Poker 11-20-06 01:54 AM

My worst streak ever, by a lot, has continued for yet another day. Yes, I won a very nice Bahamas trip in the middle of said streak last night, but in cash games, I am running colder than I thought possible. I don't feel like it has effected my play much, but realistically, IT HAS TO BE. I don't see how it couldn't. If nothing else, it's affected how my opponents see me at the tables (as a loser), which will make them more likely to call me down (since I lose so many showdowns), and that doesn't go very well with a frigid deck. I could completely change my style for a while, and I may need to.... I don't even know.

I'm not sure why I'm posting this in this thread. I guess it's because I've gotten my 10k hands in now but I am WELL down for the month... MY $10k goal is pretty much an impossibility now... I'd be happy if I could just get back to even for the month.

I cashed out a lot of my Neteller account last week (thinking I wouldn't need the money online anytime soon and hating that it was sitting there earning 0% interest), and I'm really glad I did. Right now, my online bankroll (which is obviously not my true bankroll) is pretty tight. I'm going to try to rebuild here without reloading...

I may move down a level for a while or I may take a break all together. I'm not sure yet. but I'm sick of losing large sums of money day after day after day because of (mostly) SICK variance.

Boobie Lover 11-20-06 02:12 AM

With your style TP, variance will definitely be much greater than others. I think the regulars are probably starting to bluff check/raise you a lot more knowing you cbet the flop far greater than most.

sjay2k 11-20-06 02:15 AM

+7k from 3000 hands so far this month....

Talking Poker 11-20-06 02:32 AM

Damn regulars!

If that was the extent of it, that would be one thing... but I'm getting my money in with the best of it and being drawn out on a LOT more than one would expect. And I'm just not getting big hands either. And when there is a big hand vs. bigger hand situation, I seem to be on the losing end of it (regardless of which hand I held) about 80 or 90% of the time.

I think you are right about the regulars though......

i usually play this the same way, except sometimes i'll check back the flop.
