Are we doing a bracket pool this year?

I keep getting email from Yahoo for the league we ran last year:

Anyone up for a friendly pool? $10? $20?

jillaj 03-18-09 05:50 PM

I am in for 10 or 20 or whatever.

JDMcNugent7 03-18-09 06:37 PM

im in

jillaj 03-18-09 08:57 PM

it tells me i need an invite

Talking Poker 03-18-09 11:15 PM

Mayhem set it up last year. If he can get us going tonight, great... if not, meh. I assume the people who say they are in are good for the $$, so we can figure that out tomorrow.

sjay2k 03-19-09 04:17 AM

I don't know anything whatsoever about college ball, but def. in

Talking Poker 03-19-09 11:58 AM

Well, Mayhem sucks, and I don't have time to set up a new league right now - it's too last minute anyway.

So I guess those of us who are in will play for fun. If someone else wants to set this up, go for it - I made my picks in Mayhem's league, so I'll use those for whatever.

Talking Poker 03-21-09 11:40 PM

So I am currently dominating this league right now... what with me being the only person to actually submit picks and all.

Actually, my bracket looks pretty good:
22-10 in the first round
7-2 so far in the second
All Final 8 teams still alive

Talking Poker 03-22-09 08:13 PM

Ended up 14-2 in the second round.

I rule. I am so going to win my $20.

sjay2k 03-23-09 09:41 AM

Watched a whole bunch of games. Man I love basketball, especially when it's played with such energy.

I really like the look of Mizzou, UConn and Villanova so far.

So far the favourites have fared quite well but I think that 4 of the 8 results this round will be upsets: Mizzou, Nova, Syracuse and Kansas. While all the number one seeds get through.

I have a friend who plays for a d1 college who has been telling me who to bet on :) We unloaded on UNC when we were able to find them at 5.5 (+450) pre-tourney but we are thinking of changing our position to UConn, arbing out or some combination of UNC/Uconn/arb.

GTDawg 03-23-09 05:29 PM

Damn...I think I could've cleaned up in this league if we had set it up.

27/32 in the first round
13/16 after the first weekend
All 8 teams still alive

Depending on how things were weighted, I think I'd be ahead, no?

What are your final picks (so I can see if I won this hypothetical competition)?

Talking Poker 03-24-09 12:10 AM

Louisville
Kansas
Uconn
Memphis (I will get this one wrong)
Xavier (upset special)
Duke
UNC
Syracuse

Kansas
Uconn
Duke
UNC

Uconn
UNC

UNC

Last year, we had the rounds weighted: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13

GTDawg 03-24-09 12:56 AM

Let's see...

Currently:
TalkingPoker - 50
GTDawg - 53 (Solid first round FTW)

=============
Louisville
Michigan State
UConn
Memphis (You think Mizzou will beat Memphis? Not if they play like they did against Maryland)
Pitt
Nova
UNC
Syracuse

Louisville
Pitt
UNC
Memphis

Louisville
UNC

UNC

I'm afraid that my desire to keep chalk and play it safe will backfire since it seems some of them #1s are struggling more than I'd like to see.

I fully expect Kansas to screw me over and do something stupid like repeat.

Reel Deal 03-24-09 08:43 AM

Here's mine in the pools I'm in:

Louisville
Michigan State
UConn
Memphis
Pitt
Nova
UNC
Oklahoma

Michigan State (homer pick)
Memphis
Pitt
UNC

Memphis
UNC

UNC

If I had to do it over again, my final four would be L'ville, UConn, Pitt and UNC with UNC over UConn in the final.

Talking Poker 03-24-09 01:00 PM

When Pitt loses, I'm gonna run away with this.

And just a feeling about Memphis. I have no actual knowledge.

GTDawg 03-24-09 06:40 PM

I only have two games to focus...Michigan State vs Kansas and Purdue vs UConn.

I am in 3rd in my main pool and I have 6/8 games in common with the guy in first and then the same Final Four, the same Championship game, the same Champion.

He's currently 7 points ahead of me. So, if I go 8/8...

The scrub in 2nd actually has Arizona winning it all, so we'll see how that works out for him.

Reel Deal 03-24-09 08:25 PM

No way Purdue beats UConn (sorry Shab). I'm worried about the Spartans... they looked very average against USC and Kalin Lucas and Raymar Morgan look lost or scared or star-struck, idk what the fuck is wrong with them.

GTDawg 03-24-09 10:40 PM

I have UConn and MSU. So, I'm hoping for standard chalk to hold out one more week and I'll win a few hundred.

sjay2k 03-27-09 03:32 AM

Perfect 4/4 today including two upsets

CAshharoooo

Reel Deal 03-27-09 09:42 AM

Fucking Mempiss.

Talking Poker 03-27-09 12:01 PM

Like I said.

I also lost with Xavier (not a surprise) and Duke (a surprise), which knocks out one of my Final 4.

Kurn 03-27-09 01:44 PM

F Duke. I also had Memphis yesterday, but since I didn't have them going any deeper, that didn't hurt so much.

That being said, I still have 3 final 4 teams alive in the pool I'm in (seed differential scoring).

My 3 left in the final 4 are UConn, Oklahoma, Kansas. I've got the Zags to knock out NC tonight, that'll be worth 4x points thanks to the seed and can keep me near the top of my pool ($10 pool, 93 entries, payout 70-20-10). I was in 2nd 1 pt behind after the 1st 2 rounds.

Talking Poker 04-07-09 12:06 PM

I ended up with 43 correct picks for a score of 223...

Not bad, considering 2nd place this year had 0.
