6 max Goodness (Forum Challenge)

I haven't played 6 max on Party in quite some time - just THREE sessions since September, in fact.

After all the recent talk about the fish at Party, plus me being on a nasty MTT slide, I decided to give the $5/10 game a whirl tonight for old time's sake. Man... these players are as bad as ever, aren't they? I finished the session down a bit, but I can tell this is still a goldmine.

I have to say though, I really love the pace of this game, especially when I'm multitabling (I only played 2 tables tonight).

So I was thinking... I should do some sort of experiment with this. Maybe I should pound this game for a set time or certain number of hands and see how I do. Better yet - maybe a friendly forum challenge for the likes of pshabi (my little protege) and anyone else interested in playing. I "usually" play 10/20 and 15/30 now (not that I've played many cash games in the past few months at all), but I have no problem dropping back to 5/10 for a little bankroll rebuilding, and especially if we can make some sort of friendly competition out of it.

What do you this, pshabi (and anyone else)? Maybe we could each log 5000 hands (or whatever number we decide on) and see who wins the most (or loses the least!)....

We could put 50 bucks (a whopping 5 BBs) on it to make things more interesting. Or we could just do it for fun. It matters not to me.

If no one is interested, no worries - I'll finish up that 100 Heads Up Matches thing I started months ago and then forgot about 70some matches into it... I just feel like I need to focus on something to get me playing more again.

I am also playing 5-10 6 max. I'm down for the challenge, even though I know I am a huge underdog here. How about we start Feb 1st, play 5000 hands from then on and see who is the best from that? I am sucking, but it will be nice to know I can come to you guys with some burning questions.

JDMcNugent7 01-29-06 02:13 AM

I really want to learn how to play Limit 5/10 and up is a horrible place to start. But I'll try to read up on Limit, play some lower stuff and get feedback from u guys, and maybe i could Try and get in on this challenge. Either way im going to learn limit.

PShabi 01-29-06 09:55 AM

I'm down for whatever. Are we looking for a mano y mano contest, or is there some way to format it for a group?

Talking Poker 01-29-06 12:17 PM

I'd recommend searching this forum, if you are interested in 6 max. There is actually better content in here that I have seen in any poker book, quite frankly. Search on "6 max" maybe or "shorthanded" - I'm not sure. I know shabi has posted a number of HHs that have generated good discussion.

Talking Poker 01-29-06 12:20 PM

Either way. If Mayhem wants in, he's in.

The more people we can convert to this goldmine, the happier everyone will be. Not to mention all the future 6 max discussion it could generate...

BTW - how funn will it be when I'm DOWN after 5000 hands? :o That could certainly happen, of course, but I'm targetting a $1500 profit.

PShabi 01-29-06 12:25 PM

Okay, my hands started right after I made the first post btw!!!!;) I got a nice little head start this morning!!!!!! Still getting it, actually.

MAYHEM45 01-29-06 12:33 PM

So how are we working this then? any 5-10 hand in our PT after our post are counted?

JDMcNugent7 01-29-06 12:34 PM

my Limit adventue is starting today. could be a little scary.

Talking Poker 01-29-06 12:42 PM

Yeah, no way dude. PT screenshots filtered from 2/1 (as Mayhem suggested) on... Your head start = practice!

PShabi 01-29-06 12:47 PM

Winking and rolling eyes doesn't mean what it used to?;) ;)  :D :D :D

Talking Poker 01-29-06 01:03 PM

   :D

Heh.

I'm willing to pony up a little side action for this. How about you guys? $20? $50? $100?

Right now, it looks like we have the following:
TP
pshabi
Mayhem
JD

Anyone else? Let's get this squared away by Tuesday and we'll kick off at midnight on Wednesday.

And for the record, this is $5/10 6 max LIMIT Hold Em. Not just any $5/10 game.

Boobie Lover 01-29-06 01:24 PM

Chalk me up as a maybe.

JDMcNugent7 01-29-06 01:27 PM

Don't count me in as a for sure just yet - I'm still attempting to find out just how bad i suck at Limit.

JDMcNugent7 01-29-06 05:20 PM

first day went well , I won at 2/4, 3/6, and then won some at 5/10 - so i might be able to join in.
It is very frustrating to me so far tho - but i really want to learn how to get better at it.

Talking Poker 01-29-06 05:26 PM

I'm thinking 5000 hands under your belt will do the body good.

And Boobie - you should play too. This is your game, right? Or do you play full ring?

I don't care if we don't put an entry fee on this... just thought it would be more fun. I'm looking forward t oseeing the daily PT screenshots.

Boobie Lover 01-29-06 06:33 PM

My last venture into 5/10 6 max I got kicked in the junk pretty severely. I've went back to full ring for a while. I might return though.

Plus, I have to transfer some money into Firepay to get into Party. If variance kicks my ass again, it might be a while before I can get money into Party.

JDMcNugent7 01-29-06 11:56 PM

Just had a real good run 4 tabling 5/10... U can count me in for sure - so much easier to multi table than NL.

Talking Poker 01-30-06 12:07 AM

Ok, so let's get this is writing:

Beginning on February 1st at midnight, we are going to be playing 5000 hands of $5/$10 6 max Limit Hold'Em at Party (or wherever, I guess). Unless someone objects, I say we each pony up a friendly but still significant $50 (that's 5 BBs - I will do more if you all want to). Whoever makes the most money over his 5000 hands (all of 5/10 6 max) is the winner and gets $50 from each of the other contestants.

Sounds good to me. We'll use Poker Tracker screenshots to post our results. It would be fun to keep a scoreboard, but noting matters until hand #5000.

Sounds good?

Semi-Confirmed List (I want to make sure the $50 is cool with everyone):
TP
JD
pshabi
Mayhem

Boobie - Are you guys in? How about the bdawg? You wanna play? Anyone else?

If you guys don't like the $50, speak up. I'll do it for $100 or I'd do it for $0. Doesn't matter to me.

MAYHEM45 01-30-06 12:11 AM

50 sent, lets do this thang.

Talking Poker 01-30-06 12:16 AM

Got it.

And good idea. Anyone who is "in," send your $50 to my TalkingPoker account on Stars.

Let's still hold off on starting until the 1st though, in case anyone else wants to join us. I'll Stick this bad boy.

redbank09 01-30-06 12:17 AM

im in, im goona go sell my house in the morning to cover the loses im going to take, j/k. i cant afford those limits but you gave me a good idea. im new to cash games so i think im going to play 5,000 hands at each level up to a dollar and keep hh so i can improve and maybe win some real cash like u guys. TP does that sound like a good idea to you.

Talking Poker 01-30-06 12:19 AM

Do you use ? If not, you should. That's the best way to keep records and track your play.... not to mention to find leaks in your game. ESPECIALLY for limit play.

Talking Poker 01-30-06 12:20 AM

Hey... one more rule I just though of...

If, after 5000 hands, anyone is DOWN money, they get their $50 back. No need to add insult to injury! I want to keep this friendly.

badblood44 01-30-06 11:52 AM

Intriguing....

Some questions:

1. Any deadlines on when you'd need to complete 5000 hands?
2. Any "surrender" if for instance after 2500 hands you're down more than you're comfortable with and wish to quit? (I know, loser-ish question right there. Let's just say I'm asking on the behalf of others :)

It's funny, but I was just thinking about a foray into limit hold 'em again. I have the bankroll for 5/10 and was thinking I just might give it a try. This could be, as Nigel Tufnel likes to say, that "push over the cliff" that gets me to do it.
