Freerolls are terrible

I decided to play a freeroll over at pacific because I was bored. So I get A9s, and I raise preflop. I get like 4 callers because everyone stays to the flop over at pacific. I flop 2 pair, and I bet- this guy that has gone in at least 3 times pushes em all so I call easily. We flip em over at the end, and you know what he gets? A straight- a to 5. He was holding 34o, and he called my raise pre-flop. What is that??

omahilo 10-24-04 04:49 PM

lol its a freeroll so that should give u your answer to any questions. If u plan on playing a freeroll better be prepared to get sucked out.

Tuff Luck 10-24-04 05:12 PM

That's my point- I don't think I'll be playing too many of them.

I also saw 2 people go all in first hand- preflop lol...

Penguinfan 10-24-04 05:19 PM

Freerolls, ah yes

Nothing like having to survive a 6-way all-in pot with KK against A-2, A-T, A-7, A-9 and 3-9 (hey they were suited). Of course you will catch your King on the river so you think you survived only to realize that the A-T just made his straight, of course you were the big stack at your table so you still have a few hundred chips left to knock out the remaining 6000 players.

hahaha

johnbaker 10-24-04 07:02 PM

dont play freerolls.... the play on them is a disgrace to the game of poker

lol freerolls always have aleast 2-3 allins 1st hand. I use to play them regularly when I first started playing to learn the basic of the game. even tho seeing 3-9s win pot after pot made me wonder lol

johnbaker 10-24-04 10:39 PM

if you're new to poker you shouldnt play in them at all, playing freerolls makes you WORSE at poker.

Freerolls are kinda crazy. You have to expect any player to play any two cards! Thats why the 1st hour of freerolls just sitout or play prem hands only. No need to slow play hands in most freerolls you will always get a call.

GeoffM 10-25-04 08:28 AM

Agreed, don't waste your time with freerolls. Unless you come top 3, there really isn't a point, and they can drag for hours. This is why you will always see people going all-in first hand in one of them.

ChipFish 10-25-04 09:04 AM

Just for kicks, I like to build a 3-4 thousand stack and then play like a maniac...

johnbaker 10-25-04 05:23 PM

but....why? its like playing basketball with a bunch of 1st graders, but you can only shoot with 1 hand

ChipFish 10-25-04 05:43 PM

You should see listen to them squeel!
You flash 2-8 offsuit at them after going all in on the turn of a board showing:
Ac-Kc-10d-10c and no one calls.... they scream.... if you hit a hand with 5-10o/s and win they scream bloody murder..... It's hilarious!
Doesn't cost you anything but time.

Besides, I quit playing basketball with 1st graders because they always win...
I think the tall one was on steroids.

johnbaker 10-25-04 05:49 PM

lol.... talk about disrespectin the game

bothecorgi 10-25-04 07:49 PM

I play freerolls to either try out new games (such as O8 on Planet) or to try out different styles of playing. If you enter them thinking you can beat the fishes that hold any crappy cards, you'll end up frustrated and pissed off.

Chutups 11-09-04 07:08 PM

I played a freeroll and this one guy was going all in everysingle hand, he actually go very lucky and lasted for a couple hours. He even eliminated me with a 4 7 offsuit to my AK, he got trip 4's. :(

Kidd7138 11-11-04 04:57 PM

I play freerolls a lot but I'll admit the play can be absolutely terrible. The worst two beats I can remember was a flush someone caught on the river after called a raise of 10XBB, 200, preflop with 2/4 suited another was a hand in which I went in with QJs, one caller had A5o. Flop A-K-10, he goes all in, I obviously call with my flopped straight. At this point he needs running A, 5, K, or 10s, or QJ to have a straight on the board. He caught the running kings.

jillaj 11-20-04 03:39 PM

I don't even like playing the freerolls anymore and when i do play them i will sit out for the first half hour or so. If i don't you always have nimrods doing stupid stuff and getting lucky ocasionally.

Tilter 11-20-04 04:48 PM

Standard freeroll play and live play as well. I raise in a card game, with AA, called me down with 26d and rivered a gutshot straight!

Kidd7138 11-21-04 10:19 PM

Runner runner straights or boats seem to be the daily special sometimes in freerolls.

BrianSwa 11-25-04 12:23 AM

hi

I dont know about free rolls being terrible I agree there not best place to make your skills known but I have made alot off freerolls i usually just sit back 1st hour and only play my painted cards and let the morons go all in. Then once I have a good chip lead I start pushing pushing pushing I did that this afternoon at jetset poker in a qualifier with the buyin being frequent player points field I think was about 150. Had to sit out with 27 people left me in 8th place and the cut being 18th place top 18 players got invite into money torney hopefully I made it pretty sure I did but I have made alot of money on freerolls my advice is just let the morons do there thing then just outplay the rest of the feild its not hard.

MarkGreb 11-26-04 10:47 AM

Freerolls aren't completely bad.

Just have to wait out the idiots until they go bust. After the first rush 15-20 minutes play settles down quite a bit.

It's a good way to get a lot of hands in.

MarkGreb 11-26-04 02:28 PM

Just an update. Just finished 90th out of 7587 on Piggs Peak Freeroll.

I won $1.33

I'm reeech!!

After the 1st hour everyone played tight.

BrianSwa 11-26-04 07:46 PM

hi

I was in that one today but at the time I was in 2 freerolls on bugsbys and another on jetset and that one so had 4 going at once so couldnt really concentrate on it no idea what I finished but im sure it wasnt that great playing 4.

Aequitas58 11-26-04 07:49 PM

Multitabling freerolls so much that you really couldn't even concentrate... what's the point?
