So someone hacked into my Stars account...

had lovely conversation with Stars today, this is the email they sent me at the end. I'm still not sure how someone could've gotten my information, but it could've been worse.

Hello Stephen,

We have concluded our investigation of the missing funds in your 'MSHPhenom' account. As I explained to you on the phone, we were unable to recover $10,984.79 due to numerous transfers and losses at our tables. However, we were able to recover the additional $4,016.21 that was unharmed and have re transferred the funds into your account.

As you requested, we will close your account and mail you your remaining balance of $69,323.66 to the address you confirmed with me over the phone.

Please do as I suggested and reformat, as well as virus scan your computer, in order to prevent any further damage and possible hacking.

I have cleared your name and given you the authority to create an additional account. Please keep the identity of your new account private. As was explained to you on the phone, if an incident such as this occurs again, we cannot be held responsible for any further missing funds and will not be able to issue a new account.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact our support.

Kind regards,

Jorge

Sorry to hear this

That's awful. If you don't mind telling, do you know how your account was compromised?

AKQJ10 08-26-07 12:57 AM

The guy from Security on PokerStars said it was likely a key logger that I downloaded through email or got from someone on AIM.

That's seriously messed up.

Any more info you have about this would be good for everyone to read, I'm sure.

Has anything suspicious happened lately - like, have you downloaded any new poker "tools" in the past few weeks or has anything weird happened on AIM?

MAYHEM45 08-26-07 03:18 AM

Yeah, as much details as possible would be awesome. AIM is stupid easy to send a keylogger thru. Never direct connect to anyone! Also alaways virus scan everything you receive. I beta test for the FTS guy and make sure I run a check as soon as I dl the latest version.
