Taking a blowtorch to 50 mil probably would've been cooler.

He has started throwing a bit, he should be back in about 4 weeks (hopefully). They don't make pitchers like they use to.

I know even i know who AJ burnett is, but why is this detrimental to the team for $50mil?

Daft question, but time i learned - the $50mil, is that to the player, his old team, his wager per year/decade or what?

I think its 5 years/ 50 mill so hes making 10 mill a year.

Ain't this the truth. I remember back when Mark Prior was starting out they were comparing him to Nolan Ryan (throwing mechanics mostly). Then low and behold he had nowhere near the staying power. Even though I'm a cubs fan Nolan Ryan is probably my favorite player of all time. It's real close between him and Ryan Sandberg, but the footage of him beating the hell out of the guy that charged the mound is priceless. Anywho, back to the original point yeah someone needs to break out for some team and be that staying power that we haven't seen since the days of Nolan Ryan. I guess the closest thing since has been that braves pithcer, schmidt I think. But he went from starter to closer back to starter. Ahh, damned ramblings.

Roger Clemens could prolly stay in the league longer than Mark Prior if he wanted too.

Burnett got $55 million for 5 years to be a #2 starter. $11 million a year with player opt-out options after the 3rd and 4th year of the contract.

Good to see the Jays have been capable of staying within striking distance of the Yanks and Red Sox though. I'm telling you all now, we'd be the ones being chased if Burnett were healthy.

Edited to add: Yes, I am one of those rare Canadians that knows oodles and oodles about baseball. I use to play rep. ball. The team that represents Canada at the Little League, my team at that age would have smoked them, but we didn't play Little League rules.

AJ Burnett isnt even that good so I wouldnt say you would be the one being chased...

AJ Burnett and Kerry Wood are two of the greatest .500 pitchers to ever play the game, I will give them both that.

1.5 games back of both the Yanks and Sox, umm, yeah, we'd be getting chased if we didn't have AA pitchers starting.

I like the clever jab to Kerry but he is an above .500 pitcher at 71-55, and would have a better record than that if he didn't play for the non hitting cubs. AJ on the other hand is a sub .500 pitcher with a 49-51 record and a 50 million dollar contract.

I think you meant penchant :thumbsup: ...however, pension also somewhat fits in this case :p .
