World Cup

Why the hell was the other thread closed?

Anyway, I agree NOW that we're (USA) in big trouble, if our offensive players weren't as cold as ice at the moment I'd at least give us a fighting chance at swiping the 2nd spot in the group, but you can't win without scoring. :p I do feel we're still on course for a big stepup in 2010 though, not winning per se but we certainly should have a more solid and deeper core to choose from.

eejit101 05-06-06 06:45 PM

you have donovan, and mcbride, they aint bad

melioris 05-10-06 09:02 PM

I suspect we are going to run a 4-5-1 (I know that I preached this for England too, but I think it is best for both teams). I think our most effective team would run a 5 man midfield behind McBride up front. The 5 in the mid- Beasly, Donovan, and Dempsey, supported by Reyna and Mastroeni. Based on the forwards Arena chose, I can’t see it happening another way. We are in serious trouble if Wolff or Ching ever see the field. And EJ is more of supersub than a starter, with his bad foot and all.

I was going to Germany this year, but I knocked my wife up at the wrong time and now instead of going to the WC I got a new baby son. Poor kid, I got to get over this resentment.

Tony- do you post at Bigsoccer?

Tony Cheval 06-07-06 11:53 PM

Occasionally yes, I mostly read, but I occasionally pop up with something (more often a silly retort to some nut). :D

eejit101 06-08-06 09:29 AM

Kicks off tomorrow, im taking bets on the overall winner. Anyone:)

Reel Deal 06-08-06 10:14 AM

Going out on a limb... Brazil.

eejit101 06-08-06 11:01 AM

ill give you even money:) $50 max bet.

Or we could have a sweepstake between us all when the last 16 get through, we all pick a team at randon, top 3 paid?

TajaUk 06-08-06 06:02 PM

Well the winner will either be from European or Brazil, the rest of the teams don't stand much chance tbh. Winning the world cup outside your home continent has proved a major hurdle over the years and this will not be any different.

England will get to the knockout stages and fall to the 1st decent team they meet. Germany will scrap through to the final playing poorly and scoring very few goals and one team will pop up to suprise everyone.

On a side note, its a bloody scandal USA are ranked so highly in the world. Makes a mockery of the whole system.

Reel Deal 06-08-06 11:52 PM

Especially in light of the fact that we really couldn't care less.

redbank09 06-09-06 07:04 AM

the new gatorade commercial for the world cup kicks ass, im not even a soccer fan but the thought of the usa being underdogs in a sport pumps me up. we are always favored in everything so there isnt much joy in winning. it would be sweet to pull a couple of wins ouuta this.

eejit101 06-09-06 07:41 AM

I will offer 300 - 1 on the USA winning it. It WONT happen. England will proabably fall to brazil, but we always have a chance

Reel Deal 06-09-06 08:10 AM

Put me down for $3. :D

Reel Deal 06-09-06 09:14 AM

Actually, I'm rooting for Scotland.

Just check 'em out and you'll see why:

eejit101 06-09-06 11:31 AM

lol, $3 it is

Tony Cheval 06-09-06 12:10 PM

To be fair, it's just the latest and perhaps most egregious example of a system that's been broken for quite some time. Luckily pretty much nobody cares about the FIFA rankings (or FIFA itself for that matter as long as Septic Bladder is Chief Bribetaker  ).

PShabi 06-09-06 01:31 PM

$20

Talking Poker 06-09-06 01:57 PM

Here's the problem.... once AGAIN, you are taking bets that you can't cover!

You're giving me Favre flashbacks. you know you'll get banned for welching on bets here, right?

Put me down for $5 (I was tempted to say $50 and watch him really panic).

eejit101 06-09-06 01:58 PM

your putting $5 on USA to win the world cup TP?

and $20 on it for Shabi?

Talking Poker 06-09-06 02:10 PM

In the real world, they are only a 100:1 dog, so yeah, I'm willing to throw $5 at your offer. It's +EV.

And if by some miracle they pull it off, I have to say that hopping on a plane with pshabi so we could come beat your ass for our money... well, that would be priceless.

left68wing 06-09-06 02:20 PM

TP, anyone ever told you that you look like the goalkeeper Kahn for Germany?

lightfungus 06-09-06 02:24 PM

Lol.

eejit101 06-09-06 03:01 PM

ok, so 300:1 on USA, i can afford to cover $50 of bets on that, ive had $25, if shabi and TP are serious.

I will cover these, as long as you 2 honor them if you lose, im sure TP will, shabs?

left68wing 06-09-06 03:22 PM

i'll take 5

Talking Poker 06-09-06 03:46 PM

Who makes bets not seriously? Of course we will cover. I've never welched on a bet in my life.
