MTT Bubble Insurance...

I didn't invent this, but I think it's brilliant so I am willing to offer it to all TP members.

What is Bubble Insurance?

I am offering you a chance to never bubble in another tourney again! For a prepaid fee of 10% of the tourney buy in (to be paid before the tourney begins), if you bubble, I will pay you the prize money you would have earned had you made the money. And you don't have to finish EXACTLY one spot out of the money to collect. The bigger the tourney, the more bubble spots I will pay.

Tourney Spots Paid........... Bubble Spots Paid
8 places or less............. No Bubble Insurance is available
9-15 places.................. 1 place out of the money
16-25........................ 2 places
26-35........................ 3 places
36-45........................ 4 places
46-63........................ 5 places
64-81........................ 6 places
82-99........................ 7 places
100-124...................... 8 places
125-150...................... 9 places
151-200...................... 10 places
201-250...................... 11 places
251-300...................... 12 places
301-350...................... 13 places
351-450...................... 14 places
451 or more.................. 15 places

Again, Bubble Insurance Costs 10% of the tourney buy in and 5 times that amount for Rebuy tourneys (50% of the buy in). For example:

$2.20 tourney = $.22 to insure
$4.40 tourney = $.44
$11.00 tourney = $1.10
$215.00 tourney = $21.50
$11 rebuy = $5.50
$109.00 rebuy = $54.50

The Fine Print:Why would you want Bubble Insurance?

Well, if you bubble a lot, it's a no brainer. But even if you bubble less than 10% of the time, there is a HUGE advantage for you to purchase Bubble Insurance:Instructions:

1. Make a new post in the thread. This post MUST include all of the following:

Feel free to list multiple tourneys in one post, but remember to NOT edit your post once you have made it.

2. Send 10% of the tourney buy ins(s) to Rogue23 on Stars or Troll Pie on Full Tilt BEFORE THE TOURNEY BEGINS. Remember, for rebuys, send 50% of the buy in.

3. If you finish on the bubble, as defined in the chart above, simply send me a PM and I will ship you the amount of money you would have received if you had made the money. Feel free to send me the info I will need to speed up the process (Number of spots paid, the spot you finished, and the bottom prize amount).

That's it!

Feel free to discuss this or ask question in this thread, but make sure you post your insurance requests in the right spot - .

And yes, I fully expect this to go horribly wrong for me and after shipping bdawg $$ night after night after night, I will have to cancel this.

bdawg31 05-29-08 01:42 AM

you are soon going to learn the painful lesson as to why They call me MISTER Bubble!' (spoken in voice ala 'Mr Tiibbs' from In the Heat of the Night)

bdawg31 05-29-08 01:46 AM

Ha! You posted this literally as i was replying. Let me give you a little teaser - here is a hand from a sattie I just wrapped up. If I 'get lucky' here, i cruise to a seat. Now, the good news for you is that this didnt happen near a bubble. But, don't you worry your little head about that - i get PLENTY of this on or near the bubble:

Note the goofy min-raise from the SB and the shove with the Q-high flush draw. All of this in a sattie. And notice me get punished for 'getting lucky' on the flop. This is your 'bubble insurance' future, TP.

Nah... you didn't read the fine print:

bdawg31 05-29-08 08:18 AM

Yeah, cause i never bubble in MTTs.

omahilo 06-05-08 10:00 AM

does this count for the 180s on stars and does that not count as a MTT?

Fildy 06-05-08 11:55 AM

16-25........................ 2 places

It counts, all sit n gos are available for bubble insurance if they pay at least 9 spots methinks.

Talking Poker 06-05-08 03:12 PM

Correct, ty. (Except for sattys).

I'm a bit surprised more people haven't tried this out. While it's mathematically +EV for me to offer this (obv), the "implied" edge it gives the player is hard to quantify, but it could be HUGE.

Forget about the times that you end up cashing for the bottom spot instead of bubbling.... but think about how your play will change once YOU are ITM on the real bubble and your opponents don't know it. You should be able to take advantage of that and REALLY build a stack, giving you a chance to get deep instead of focusing on making the money first and THEN ramping up your game, when you lose your edge.

I personally think that edge for the player makes up for the -EV of the cost of the insurance itself (for the times you won't even reach the bubble). Hopefully some more pople will try it out.

Hi Zenman.. :P

stl 12-16-08 11:54 PM

Do you still have this insurance thing going on? And, just to make sure i have things down.. would you insure, 18 player sngs, with 2 spots paid out of the bubble? If your still doing this.. I think I'll give you alot of action..

Talking Poker 12-17-08 12:30 PM

Yes, this is still going on.

I don't think 18 man SNGs pay 9 spots, but if I am wrong, then yes, I would offer this for 18 mans, per the table above:

jdiana86 12-17-08 10:49 PM
