Ivey Mucks the Winner...

From last night's WSOP broadcast.

Ivey has 77 wit hthe 7:s:.

Villain has A9 (something like that). Over 2 million chips go into the pot preflop, and then they check it all the way down, with the last card being the A:s: and putting a 4 flush on the board.

Villain says he has an Ace... Ivey waits for him to table it, and then Ivey mucks without even checking to see if he had a spade.

Now I'm sure this is a mistake anyone could make, but with 3 tables left at the WSOP at the pot representing over 20% of your stack, don't you think everyone should ALWAYS double check their cards on a 4 flush board?

Pretty costly mistake.

Hey, in the turtle game (3-6) at Mohegan on Sunday, I bet the flop and turn with a flush draw and led out on the river when the third :d: fell, proudly flipped over my Q:d:J:d: only to see Q:h:J:h:. Of course, that only cost me 3 big bets rather than an entire pot. ;)

I saw the clip of that. I think it was 8:s:8x. Crazy freakin' hand. I bet he seriously drank himself stupid after realizing his mistake.

I'm pretty sure he misreads the hand because he doesn't see the four flush board at all...not because he thought he had the wrong suit.

Greenstein talks to Ivey about the hand and relays the discussion to us here:
