Shannon Elizabeth - Oh my...

I was just watching some of today's NBC Heads Up Championship and they interviewed Shannon Elizabeth after her first round win, asking her what she credited for her success. I thought her response was worthy of it's own thread, instead of putting in in the NBC HU one.

It's not online yet, but she said - and I'm not kidding you here - "positive visualization" (I think that's what she called it). She said she was concentrating really hard, focusing on the cards she needed and not letting images of the ones that would hurt her come into her head.

Oh my.

Must be nice to be a hot female celebrity who can spell the word poker, so you can get into this tourney as opposed to being a deserving player who can actually play.

(Yes, I'm still bitter because she called my all in with 55 and knocked me out of a tourney in 2005)

I kid you not, this is the latest craze in the self-help world. . The only good thing about this crock is that is a quick pop culture litmus test for complete stupid fools. If you need further enlightenment, read some of the user reviews.

Episode 3: Segment 2. Right off the bat.

"The law of attraction and positive mental energy and really trying to picture the cards I need and not to picture the cards I don't want, because I don't want to attract those cards."

Now let me be clear here.... I'm all for positive visualization, mental imaging, etc - but I'm talking with regard to something that you have actual control over - hitting a golf ball, for example... or for poker, keeping a level head and staying off tilt - things like that.

To think that this sort of thing could influence something that is RANDOM (randomly predetermined in a shuffled deck, no less) is, well, absurd.

I mean, I seriously can't believe she even said it. And she said it with a straight face.

great another excuse for people that lose.

"damit I pictured the wrong card in my head"

lmfaoo, well we know what happend to her in the heads up tourney...

Yeah, she did pretty well - far better than any celebrity ever has before (none had made it past Round 1).

So far, I've only seen her first round match, but she pretty much got hit in the face with the deck and her opponent played pretty badly, IMO.

I don't understand. I have a "positive visualization" every time I watch "American Pie."

TP, you are going to hate this one...

Remember, don't shoot the mesenger, but I thought of you when I read the ALL-IN Mag article about the NBC-HUC.

NBC Sports Senior VP Jon Miller was quoted as saying that Miss Elizabeth is "...the real deal." (No offence to RD)

Robbr25 05-04-07 11:27 PM

Of course she is the real deal, she knocked TP out of a tourney !!
And is hot tabout !!;)
