October Goals

I have to write my goals down to keep me on track since last month I feel like I didn't do shit.

1. Play a ton of hands. My winrate will almost def be worse this month, but the $ will hopefully be better. Instead of only playing late at night when I can concentrate I'm gonna try to get in hands when just watchin tv w roomates and stuff.

2. Get good at 6m again. Really only want to do this so I can get in more hands when HU games are dry.

3. Don't focus on money, just play good. (6 fig month please???)

4. Table select well. Only play 25/50 when tables are good. Stay away from 50/100 unless super fish sits.

5. Don't let poker take up too much time at all.

How does #5 fit given what you wrote in #1?

JDMcNugent7 10-04-07 03:02 PM

only play when theres nothing better to do?
like def no staying in instead of going out to play poker or anything like i would do on nights i thought would be boring last yr.

Sounds good... definitely don't let it interfere with you're enjoyment of college, there's no other time in your life like it.

I was going to say something about playing a LOT of hands this month (for me, 20k would be a LOT), but I'll be having visitors here for basically half the month, and I don't want to feel pressured to play while they are here. Still though, I want to get my hands in, so:

-Iron Man on Full Tilt.
-10k hands minimum $1/2 NL.
-Give serious consideration to moving back up later in the month.

Regarding the third, as you may recall, $3/6 NL was my regular game, with some $2/4 and $5/10 mixed in. After a combination of running and playing badly, I found myself on a sick downswing and started really disliking playing. So, I decided to cash out most of my online roll, and rebuild... It's been one of the best poker decisions I've ever made, and I'm enjoying playing again. The thing is, I'm just not sure I want to stay at $1/2 forever. I mean, I've been winning (and cashing out here and there), but I'm kind of wondering if I should move back up. So, I guess we'l see how the month shapes up for me, but I may mave up to $2/4 later this month. I think 4 months of playing exclusively $1/2 has shown discipline isn't a problem for me... Now it's just a question of if I want to continue to take the easy road, or to chalenge myself once again.

That's a very good list for you - and especially if #2 is referring to non-poker books. Glad to see you post it.

Regarding #3, if you don't mind sharing, what have you been doing? I'm a big fan of volunteer work and I think all "professional" poker players should make time to do it.

Oh, and GL with #4. Prop bet? :D

stormswa 10-04-07 04:25 PM

mine are mostly non poker related but I shall share.

1. have a baby Girl
2. get forum done and work on development
3. finish my 21 backer tourneys (if #1 doesn't interfere of course)
4. switch jobs at work (hope this happens real bad)

MAYHEM45 10-04-07 04:53 PM

Reverse number one to get more playing time in and this is my list exactly. I have a couple girls looking into volunteer positions for me right now. There isnt much that ive been able to find that doesnt involve driving old people to the hospital.

Wes 10-04-07 04:54 PM

Volunteering is at some local homeless shelters.

And it is non-poker books (probably haven't read a poker book in at least 6 monhts), most of which is real estate/landlording related as I try to expand into different venues. That seems a little too money related which probably isn't that great of an option as I don't want to be thinking all money related like I always do when I am way too much into poker so I'll try to read some psychology books and religion/philosophy books too (and hopefully try to improve upon run on sentences too).

MAYHEM45 10-04-07 04:55 PM

what do u do at the homeless shelter?

stormswa 10-04-07 05:03 PM

wtf everytime I really dont want to like you in the least you come back with this. Nice, that is beyond cool.

Invigilator 10-04-07 05:27 PM

1. Run Good
2. Win Money
3. Flop set over set once every 75 hands.
4. Make a final table in a PL 5 card draw tournament.
EDIT: 6. Make my 1000th post

Reel Deal 10-04-07 05:36 PM

Aim high Willis, aim high!!!

Wes 10-04-07 05:41 PM

Actually haven't started doing it yet. Hopefully it will be fulfilling.

JDMcNugent7 10-04-07 07:18 PM

oh wow i feel bad for u.

Invigilator 10-04-07 10:19 PM

oh, THAT kind of goal setting. In that case I will set out to win the Sunday Million... twice. :D

Talking Poker 10-06-07 02:11 AM

JDMcNugent7 10-06-07 05:00 AM

lol ty. i dn wut to say. i had to re-look at all my HH from last night i dont even remember playin

Talking Poker 10-06-07 12:41 PM

Yeah, that's pretty bad. REALLY bad, in fact.

Hopefully you won't log on sometime to see that you lost 6 figures the night before and don't remember it.

Drunk poker probably isn't the best idea, no matter how funny it seems at the time.

GeorgeT123 10-08-07 12:19 AM

About the volunteering at the homeless showers, what kind of volunteering did you actually do there? I know I managed to get myself up at 7 last saturday for a local homeless breakfast distribution and although I'm still recovering from the lack of sleep it was a great feeling. Some of the people you meet there are actually pretty fun to talk to and if you've got nothing better to do then I suggest you all give it a shot one weekend...

Talking Poker 10-08-07 12:21 AM

Funny typo.

Sounds like a rewarding experience...

Fildy 10-08-07 12:23 AM

Be rolled for 10nl properly.
Play well.
Run well.
Continue to grind and not chase losses.

Reel Deal 10-08-07 01:44 AM

My month is already over.

GeorgeT123 10-08-07 12:12 PM

Hahahaha I'm not even going to attempt to edit that. Some typos are infinitely better than the original intentions.
