Private tourney with guest; Tom McEvoy

A friend of mine invited Tom McEvoy to join his private tourney. When asked, (in front of all of us), if he was willing to give a bounty on himself he said yes, but then went on to say he only had .31 cents in his account, but no worries because he was planning on winning the tourney. When asked how he managed to enter the tourney with no money he said he was being staked by a fellow player (acehiflush31) at the tourney.

Well, to make a long story short....I took him out, he said gg, gn and left without stating he was sending me any money for the bounty. I checked my bank and still no money from him.

He either forgot about the bounty deal or figured since he didn't win the tourney, there was no deal as to the bounty? Either way, I am not going to chase him down for it, he can keep it. (Probably needs it more than I do)

--The other night, I asked a friend for advice on how to handle a losing streak, he said to continue playing and not to quit. I took his advice and I am proud to say, I finished 1st in this tourney. Hopefully this puts an end to my losing streak. *Thankyou for your good advice, mon ami* ;)

Here is the hand where I knock out Tom:

Thankyou, Shabi.

That is a very "strange" story....

I assume the 31 cent thing was his way of jokingly saying "no," and not actually him putting a 31 cent bounty on himself.

sjay2k 02-17-07 01:33 AM

Bustoooooooooo

bunny 02-17-07 02:26 AM

The bounty was suppose to be $5 worth. Not sure if he was being sarcastic about the .31 cents,(doesn't matter) point is he placed a bounty of $5 on himself and when it came time to pay up, he didn't. Not a good way to represent himself in front of other players watching.

ChipFish 02-17-07 02:44 PM

are you sure it was actually him?
could have been an imposter.

Congrats either way.

PShabi 02-17-07 03:35 PM

Why would Stars let someone register w/ that name?

It was him.

I was curious myself while at tourney, so I checked it out by : Lobby / Requests / FindTeamPokerStars Player /

when I clicked on his online name it showed the Private tourney I was in. It was the 'Real' McEvoy.

But Shabi makes a valid point, don't think PS would allow anyone duplicate his name or his icon.

Also found some other tidbit of information. Seems Mr. Tom McEvoy will join any tourney as a guest/player, so long as someone stakes him.

*Chat from the tourney I was in, while an observer friend of mine invited Tom to his $8+R private tourney, which was to be held later that night.*

Billyboy62: tom lynx sent you money and password so you can play the 8r1+1

MrLynX [observer]: tom

MrLynX [observer]: get in the rebuy already ;)

Tom McEvoy: ok Lynx all registered

MrLynX [observer]: good

Below are 2 attachments from both tournies Tom was in. Hope this is proof enough.

Ummmm I don't know, do other sites allow this? Yes.

ChipFish 02-17-07 05:13 PM

Next step, contact support.
It's only 31cents, but it's the principle behind it.
Make a stink about it.

Reel Deal 02-17-07 05:21 PM

Why don't you ask him if he'll "mentor" you and back you while travelling the circuit together? I seem to recall that working out well for someone else...

 ;)

I was watching this and it is the real Tom McEvoy account. I watched bunny win and only reason I found her was because I was using the Pokerstars Team Search. Tom also was playing in a $5 MTT at the same time he was playing in Bunny's tourney.

bunny 02-17-07 11:20 PM

Was a $5 bounty, but I have no interest in chasing him down for it or bothering PS about it. Thought it was an interesting yet *strange* happening. (Reason for posting it)

Talking Poker 02-17-07 11:35 PM

Agreed... not worth it, and there is nothing Poker Stars could do anyway. It's not up to them to enforce bounties, etc...

Very strage though - that whole he'll play with you if you stake him thing. I wonder if that was the case in that live tourney RD played in. I'll bet it was.

What a tool.

Reel Deal 02-18-07 09:47 PM

Oh, I'm sure he was getting paid to play in that tourney I played with him... and he just seemed to be a sour old man while at my table, I tried to start up some conversation w/him but it was like talking to sign post. F that old chump.
