Big hands not such a big deal anymore?

I can remember when making a big hand like quads was a big deal, now all that matters is winning the hand.

I can even say that two, maybe three years ago if you made quad Aces the chat box would go crazy with people saying "nice hand" or something.

I just flopped quad aces agains 88 when we got it all in pre flop and all I really cared about was no 8 hitting the board. The chat box was silent as well.

Maybe it's me, but this seems vastly different from years gone by.

Nice hand!!

i think online poker and poker in general has gotten really popular over the last few years and thats why its not such a big deal seeing quads anymore. weve seen enough up to this point, so its not a big deal. we can blabber on to everyone bout the bad beats we've gotten recently, but those are boring as well. we've seen n heard every kind of bad beat that we just dnt care anymore when it happens.

i also agree with you when you say as long as you win the hand. thats the bottom line now; doesnt matter what you have, as long as you win the pot.

I dunno, considering it was for a top 5 stack, this one kinda bothers me:

I can remember when making a big hand like quads was a big deal, now all that matters is winning the hand.

I've been playing poker for about 45 years and I've never thought either of those was as big a deal as just winning money. ;)

Talking Poker 12-12-08 05:07 PM

You do realize that four Aces beats three (and even 4 if he hit both the turn and river perfect-perfect) 8s, right?

I mean, I know you run bat, but generally speaking, you're in pretty good shape holding AAAA after the flop.

Penguinfan 12-12-08 05:43 PM

You mean there aren't 5 8's in the deck? I meant more along the lines of---I wasn't rooting for quads, I was just rooting agianst an 8. I would have felt the same with just AA and a dry board with no 8 as I would have with quads whereas years gone by it seemed like a big deal to make quads.
