Anybody listen to music while playing real poker?

I do off and on. I think I am able to do better when I am listening to music because I dont have to listen to the usual amount of idiots that are at the table.

I just cant see how you can concertrate on the game and listen to music at the same time, thats just me tho.

stussy2k 10-30-04 12:38 AM

screw off you spammer.

johnbaker 10-30-04 03:03 AM

yeah seroiusly... thats like the biggest scam ive ever heard of

(edit)

i bring the cdplayer only in a limit game where i play like a machine. in NL, i have to focus on everyone else at a table because one slipup means i could lose all my money... cdplayers are only good for calming me down after a bad beat in NL

not me

i love music anytime im playing. Helps me keep my cool from beats. as well as get into a rhythym. Maybe its just me. Im sure its not though

Rediculous spam aside, I hate cd/mp3/ipods at the table simply because somone is always holding up the game asking if the action before him was a bet or a raise, take off the headphones and you would know.

Tuff Luck 10-30-04 11:23 AM

Actually, that thing does work, but it's way too much of a hassle to complete.

Anyway, I listen to music sometimes when I play online. Not in any live games though.

Though -EV due to being such a pain in the ass, I understand the deal is legit.

Meanwhile, I always have music on while playing online, but never in a real casino.

jesus christ, i thought this was going to be a legitimate post, and then it turns out to be the free ipod deal. very disappointing.

i have never listened to music in a b&m, but i have thought about it. i think it probably would look and feel pretty ridiculous though, when i am sitting at the 4/8 table with headphones on. same type of idea for sunglasses. i dont think that i would ever wear them, but even if i wanted to i think that they look absolutely ridiculous at low limits.

junYUN 10-31-04 04:57 PM

the deal is legit, but this guy is obviously just trying to get people to sign up on his offer. really lame man.

i love music at the table though.

I always either listen to music, watch a movie, or do my homework. Just playing poker on the net can be a bit boring. Live play is way more interesting!

GeoffM 11-01-04 08:07 AM

Online, I will always listen to Music or a Trailer Boys episode, but in a B&M I wouldn't even consider it. May miss some crucial verbal tells.

drewjax 11-06-04 12:26 AM

I enjoy listening while playing online. In a B&M I would need to be alot more confident in myself, need to try to pick up everything I can, any edge I can. Does anyone do anything else while playing online (forums, surfing, whatever)? I have read where some pros, and books, say that is the worst thing you can do. But it may keep me from getting too bored, and making marginal plays. I feel this way mostly playing limit though. NL is a whole different animal.

Depends (As with everything else)

During the early rounds of a huge field low buy in at Party, in addition to listening to music, I'll also read these forums, surf around, whatever. I just don't need to pay that much attention -- wait for a premium hand, double up. Fold everything else. Rinse, repeat. But in my usual 2/4, it's a different story. There, aside from music, I'm usually concentrating (at least best I can) just on my table.

Kidd7138 11-06-04 10:40 AM

When I play online I almost always have some music playing. I've tried listening to my mp3 player while playing real games but found that it was more of a distraction/hassle than anything that could help me get into a rhythm/focus more etc.

GeoffM 11-07-04 04:06 PM

I'll either listen to music, or I'll watch a football game on Sundays and Monday nights. Need some time filler in between folding hands.

Kidd7138 11-07-04 04:44 PM

Just playing on Empire right now and realized Jimi Hendrix's live version of All Along the Watchtower is a great song to listen to while I'm playing, I have no idea why.

stussy2k 11-07-04 11:32 PM

i tried hte music during playing thing. its not bad if you listen to music that affects your mood to fit the game. for example, i just lost a pot, and was heading towards tiltsville, but then i cranked some coldplay and air, and it calmed me down.

Chutups 11-09-04 04:38 PM

When I play online I always have some music playing. I've seen people do it at some card rooms, but for me it'ld probobly be too distracting.

jdiana86 11-09-04 08:46 PM

In brick and mortar rooms I probably wouldn't unless I get considerably better, but online for sure. Poker is boring, even online, and music is a great way to pass the time waiting for hands.
