ReBuy Tourney Question

Right now on PokerStars.. $5+rebuy satellite into the Sunday 500+30

268 entries, 360 rebuys (45 minutes)

1 guy on my table had 'rebought' 8 times but he's starting to get on a roll now.

Is this normal or is this extremely loose?

omahilo 04-18-05 02:49 PM

many times people in $5 or $10 rebuy tourneys will go allin every single hand untill they build a large chip stack then will start playing normal again.

Penguinfan 04-18-05 02:51 PM

Rebuys are just an excuse for morons to play even worse than usual and get lucky, avoid them and turbo games and your bankroll will be better off for it.

BlackCoffee 04-18-05 02:56 PM

Not doing so well now. The bigger bankrolls are bullying me.
I actually do well in rebuys and turbo tourneys. I made it to the 200+15 last week through the $3+rebuy and won a $10 turbo tourney not too long ago. People panic and play bad cards in rebuy and turbo. I dont seem to have much luck lately playing regular tourneys although I do agree with you they are much better.

omahilo 04-18-05 03:06 PM

I agree with you... to win a seat to the 350K tourney on stars the 11+ rebuy turbos are a nice way to go.

I just dont play them normally because dudes are willing to spend $200-300 in a $10 rebuy just rebuying every hand and going allin till they get a large stack.

BlackCoffee 04-18-05 03:16 PM

end of the hour 268 entries, 467 rebuys, 147 add-ons

8 seats + 9th $190

176 left and im low in in 143rd place

i didnt have to rebuy so just 5+5addon

For $10, to win a seat would be a miracle :)

omahilo 04-18-05 03:30 PM

the 5+ rebuys are a grind... your better off doing the 10+ rebuy turbos, on Sunday it usually gets 60-70 seats and 100+ seats for the 350K.

BlackCoffee 04-18-05 03:33 PM

I have nothing to do this afternoon :)
In a better position now. 55th out of 142

I made the 350 one last week throught the 10+rebuy... was about 35 seats out of 200 players. It's a 22+rebuy this week, because it's the last sunday of the month.

horrible way to end your day.

Zybomb 04-18-05 05:01 PM

Yea definately sucks to go out like that...... i think maybe if your preflop raise would of been different it may of played out differently. The reraise with the 10s may have come because you made such a strong raise (10x BB)... to me a raise this large indicates a hand that doesnt want to be called, and the 10s may have very well thought he was a 4 to 1 and you were holding 4s or lower. Regardless once he hit a set on the flop, you probably would of lost most of your money anyways, bc the kings would be difficult to get off.

BlackCoffee 04-18-05 06:10 PM

That's a good point. But I wanted to make a significant raise to a) not let Aces-Rag come in and b) trap a lower pocket pai,r which I did.
The blind were small but everyone had plenty of chips due to all the rebuys.

Just unlucky.. there's always next time.

Talking Poker 04-18-05 06:39 PM

I disagree. I typically don't like Rebuy tourneys, but there certainly is a strategy to them. If what you say is partially true though - and the "morons" are attracted to rebuy tourneys - then they should be even more profitable for smart players like us.

Think about it.

ChipFish 04-19-05 12:38 AM

If you are going to enter a rebuy tournament, you MUST Immediately rebuy.
Therefore this tournament should have cost you a minimum of $5+1 +$5 +$5

There is no excuse for not rebuying immediately, and any other reasoning is just bad strategy.

I find as long as you can double up your initial double-rebuy and then you get the add-on, you should do just fine.
