overrated nfl players

after watching mike vick absolutely suck it up this past weekend, and in light of his underwhelming performance so far this season, i am starting to think of him as tremendously overrated.

he is probably the most physically gifted football player i have ever seen (well, bo jackson was probably better). he is ridiculously fast and has an absolute cannon for an arm. yet somehow he tanks it against one of the worst defenses in the nfl.

i just dont know what to think about him right now. any other players out there that you lump in this category?

Vick is incredible. I think if he had a better team, he would be vicious. McNabb is also looking good. He's in the same category of that "powerful-arm/mobile" QB. Fantasy players are loving him right now.

i absolutely love mcnabb right now. he is carrying my fantasy team all by himself.

i agree about both of their physical talents, i just think that vick should be able to do better than he is right now.

i am trying to think of other people to put in this group, and the next one i think of is the dolphins defense. every year they start off very well, but by the end of the season, because they are undersized, they get worn down and beat up. the dolphins have been a piss poor team down the stretch for someting like the last decade. of course, this year they are just a joke for the entire season.

Vick does have great talent, but he is not yet good at just dropping back in the pocket, going through his reads, and finding the open man. He is young and still learning, but he just isn't that good yet. Always a threat to break a big run, but just as likely to throw a pick on his own 20.

Being out a whole season didnt help him either

Michael Vick is the best player in football, period. No questions asked. It is hard to be the most overrated player and the best player simultaneously. Just my 2 cents.

i cant agree with you geoff. he has the most potential of any player in the league, by far in my opinion. but when you throw more interceptions that touchdowns and are the 23rd rated quarterback in the league, somethingis wrong. i know that this doesnt take into account how his running changes a game, but in my opinion it doesnt change it enough to make up for his defincienceies as a passing quarterback.

i do think that with more time he will become absolutely great, but right now he is very overrated.

dunno, but Cunningham is DA.....BOMB

eddo31 10-26-04 11:04 PM

randall? or is there some other cunningham that i cant think of right now?

he was absolutely amazing back in the day, i dont know why people tend to forget how good he was. he did exactly what vick is doing now, except he did it better. didnt he rush for over 900 yards one year?

Aequitas58 10-27-04 12:41 AM

Yea... he's great. And how many playoff games did he win when he was with the Eagles? 1? 2?

Although not to discredit his athletic ability, he was good in his day.

jimmytheg 10-27-04 01:12 AM

yeah i also cant agree with you here at all....in any way. If in qualifying who the best is, do you talk in terms of who means more to his team, or who puts up the best numbers? In either of those circumstances, Vick is nowhere near the top.

How can you say Vick is better than Moss, or Owens, or Manning, or Caulpepper. Nobody in the history of the league has thrown for 5 td's in 1 game, 3 times out of 5, like Caulpepper has this year.

Vick has fumbled more than any other Qb this year, and like a previous poster said is 23rd in QB rating. These are not the stats of the best player in football, hands down

GeoffM 10-27-04 09:39 AM

By best player, I meant most talent. Numbers are not everything, they are affected by the team that is fielded around you.

Noone has more talent than this guy, in terms of all-around offensive talent. He has a cannon for an arm, runs like the wind (better than Randall ever did). His numbers aren't great, but you know what, at 5-2, he gets the job done. This team won 5 games all last year, and now he has started every game and they have 5 wins already, and you also have to understand that the Falcons don't want to see their star get burned out, or injured (again) by having him run whenever he wants. When he does run, though, it's as though his team is in the red zone.
