running bad, fo sho.

Keep grinding.

JDMcNugent7 01-30-07 12:18 AM

wow one day if im ever bored enough out of my mind and care about results more than decisions i should just post all the beats from a single day and maybe ppl will stop posting dumb little ones that happen ALL THE TIME in poker. seriously its math, ur Supposed to lose favorites a certain amount of the time.

eejit101 01-30-07 12:21 AM

fold K8 os preflop?

and i do agree with JD on this one

Talking Poker 01-30-07 01:01 AM

Some people simply refuse to learn/accept this. I actually just tried explaining this the other day, yet here we are.

"Standard."

drewjax 01-30-07 01:42 AM

He defended his big blind to a min. raise.

Got all the money in, and got sucked out on the river to get knocked out of a tourney. Thats what a bad beat is.

Why cant people just post something like.......
"tough break" or "that sucks, tough beat"
OR
dont post anything at all

Cut the kid some slack!

Haters

:p

melioris 01-30-07 06:55 AM

I was tempted to post something along these lines, but then I got thinking. This time longshot played it well and got beaten. Yes, this happens all the multiple times every day to me. But yes, it is a bad beat, and if he wants to post a standard bad beat in the "Bad Beat" section, shit what do I care? Isn't it the point of this section?

Instead of turning the bad beat section into a dick measuring contest of who has the worst beat or lost the most money to a bad beat, maybe we should turn this into a "You don't understand math if you post here more than once a month" section or better yet, get rid of this section entirely. But running the kid down, in this instance, seems a little spiteful to me.

Zybomb 01-30-07 08:01 AM

well u played this hand correctly at least and learned not to min raise

Reel Deal 01-30-07 09:32 AM

*golf clap*

Talking Poker 01-30-07 12:32 PM

Not trying to be spiteful.

I guess for those of us who play a lot of hands, his "standard" beats (played right or wrong) are just that - standard. I'm sure there are a handful of us who have 5 or 10 beats worse than what he posts on a DAILY basis.

The reason this section exists is to keep this crap out of the poker sections. But sure, post away. I'll try to keep my comments to myself.

GeoffM 01-30-07 12:59 PM

New pictoral thread  ?

X-Longshot-X 01-30-07 03:12 PM

Its not that im trying to show every bad beat that happens, but i dont play but one or two games a day, and when this is honestly the only way i have been losing lately it sucks. Its variance and i know it will even out in the long run but its still hard. The thing that i think is worse though is that it wont work out in the long run. Maybe i overthink these things, but i am NEVER putting my money in the spot that this guy did so i will never get the chance for it to even out. Its not really about all the bad beats but with the roll that i currently have and the run that i am on it is difficult to take blow after blow like this.

Zybomb 01-30-07 03:30 PM

That isn't the point.

There point is you will win this a set % of the time in the long run -- so as long as you continue to get your money in in these situations, they will sway in your favor -- in fact Im willing to bet they are already in your favor -- you just dont remember the times when your hand holds up and you do remember the times that it doesnt bc they stick out more.

The fact that you usually wont get your money in bad is irrelivant... I generally dont get my $ in bad, so I don't give out a lot of bad beats (unless you consider calling a PFR with 97s and hitting two pair vs an overpair a bad beat, which I certaintly don't.... especially when they'll gladly put all the $ in on the flop :D )

Not giving out bad beats is different than having the best hand hold up as often as it's supposed to, and thats what will bring you into the +

Reel Deal 01-30-07 04:03 PM

You've NEVER put your money in with top pair/second kicker on a board like that? Wow, and I thought I was a nit.

X-Longshot-X 01-30-07 04:07 PM

Not when i play it just like i did....What can i have that im gonna play like that and not have him beat? I guess you guys havent seen me play much but i not raising the flop with anything less than AK and most likely not pushing the turn with anything less than AK either. Maybe he hadnt seen me play enough but im definately not pushing there when behind. Unless he has a set, which he woulda shoved flop.....I mean im not saying im the tighest player ever, but when in a tourney, im not calling off all my chips with TP 2nd Kicker but thats just me, in a cash game ide probably gladly call, but there is just too much i am behind here

JDMcNugent7 01-30-07 04:17 PM

mine wasnt a shot at longshot at all actually, my post is helpful i think.

X-Longshot-X 01-30-07 04:43 PM

200 more into a 800 pot? and the guy behind is probably gonna call too....so im basically getting 5:1 on my money, and assuming i hit, im gonna get paid off big. He wont ever be able to put me on something like K8 either. Im 99% sure calling here is the right play but i could be wrong.

melioris 01-30-07 04:58 PM

reading it again, yeah I see your point. But can you see my point of who cares if he posts every 3-outer, even the ones that are supposed to happen?

I think this entire thread makes a compelling argument for deleting the "bad beat" section. Haven't you have advocated that in the past, JD?

X-Longshot-X 01-30-07 05:01 PM

he advocated making it a beats brags and variance section rather than just bad beats

JDMcNugent7 01-30-07 05:16 PM

ya i said change it to beats brags and variance. but wutever, i usually just never even read this thread so i dont care wut ppl post, but i do think mine might have been mean but helpful.

X-Longshot-X 01-30-07 05:19 PM

i agree ur post puts things into light, but im really not posting here to say oh look how unlucky i am. Posting a hand and typing up an angry paragraph is a way for me to let off steam and it helps, especially after im knocked out like this....I realize its nothing, but it keeps me from getting more upset then i need to

Talking Poker 01-30-07 08:03 PM

Wow. Just when you had me questioning if you are better than I think you are, you go and write something like this that tells me in reality, you are worse than I thought you were.

Talking Poker 01-30-07 08:05 PM

But based on what you just wrote, in order for you to "hit," you are going to need to flop 2 pair or better, yes? Because you're folding easily on any K or 8 high flop, right?

Do you see how this doesn't add up?

Also, from your example: 800/200 = 4. Not 5.

Zybomb 01-30-07 08:10 PM

Defending Longshot for a second here, he assumed 5:1 because the limper behind him was obviously calling this bet as well

X-Longshot-X 01-30-07 08:20 PM

The only reason im getting so tight is that its getting close to the money, no reason to get too many chips in the pot without a hand, early in the tourney and later in the tourney sure ill play KQ like this, but its like 25 till the money and i can easily cash w/o doing anything stupid, so why push it?
