Important Heads Up (New Server)

I just wanted to let everyone know that we are going to be moving to a new server soon. No more of those annoying "Bad Gateways" and hopefully little to no downtime. All in all, we've been pretty good, but this will eliminate the potential for any more problems like we had a couple of months ago where the forum was GONE for a day.

Here's the tricky thing though: In order to move and keep the database synced properly, I'll need to lock it on the old server. I'll update the DNS to point to the new server immediately, but it may take anywhere from a few minutes to as long as 24 or even 48 hours for each of your ISPs to refresh their DNS and point you to the new server. If that doesn't make sense, don't worry about it. The point is, you may be stuck looking at the old server - with a locked forum - for a little while. There will be a big message at the top letting you know that's the case, and the problem will fix itself in a matter of time.

What I am looking into doing is setting up something like new.talkingpoker.com - this will point to the live database on the new server, so until your DNS is refreshed, you can just go there to hit up the site. This doesn't work yet, but it should once I set it up.

So.................. that's that. I'm not sure exactly when we'll be making the move, but I'll give you guys another heads up in this thread before it happens.

Thanks for the heads up in this thread before it happened ;)

Did anyone have any problems? I had hoped to update this thread right before the move, but my server guy decided to make the move right after I went to bed last night. Everything seems fine today.

Is anyone still hitting the old server, and needing to use new.talkingpoker.com to get here?

bunny 04-07-06 01:17 PM

Can't post.

Funny...I can post here but not in my KKK thread.

Talking Poker 04-07-06 01:20 PM

How did you "post" this then?

bunny 04-07-06 01:21 PM

I've tried 5 times to post another HH in my KKK thread and can't. Just freezes.

Talking Poker 04-07-06 01:23 PM

I have absolutely no idea what could be causing that. You can post in this thread, but not in that one? Are you at in both, or are you using new.talkingpoker.com here and www in the other one? Maybe your ISP's DNS hasn't refreshed yet... That's the only possible thing I can think of.

If you are using www (or new) for both, I have no idea why you would be able to post here and not there.

bunny 04-07-06 01:42 PM

I am on

And this is the only thread it will let me post in. I've tried to go to others but don't have access.

Talking Poker 04-07-06 01:46 PM

That makes no sense. Do you get some sort of error message? Can you take a screenshot?

Is anyone else having any problems?

bunny 04-07-06 01:50 PM

Seems it won't let me upload by use of attachments, either.

Talking Poker 04-07-06 01:58 PM

Well, that's just weird. Because clearly the site is available, and clearly it's not too busy (no one else is having problems, including you in this thread).

That looks to me like a generic Firefox message for a dropped connection.

See if ie will work for you. Other than that, I have NO idea. It just doesn't make sense that you can post in this thread and not other ones. I mean, it's the same site on the same server, etc...

bunny 04-07-06 02:17 PM

I can't get in by using

Decided to post HH in a new HSIHPT thread. Still doesn't work. Two threads I'm able to post in, now. Spam and this one. Here are more screenshots.

I'll reboot, maybe that will help some.

If I can't return, was nice meeting you all. See you at the poker tables. ;)

Talking Poker 04-07-06 03:15 PM

there is no such thing as . It's just new.talkingpoker.com ("new" instead of "www").

I really don't think that's your problem though, as you are obviously able to browse the site. But nothing else makes any sense either. I'd say to try to "new" prefix for a while and see if that helps.

bunny 04-07-06 07:45 PM

Typo, force of habit to type www.

I meant new.talkingpoker.com

If you notice the images, I went to the right url.

Talking Poker 04-07-06 09:02 PM

I don't know what to tell you. Hopefully the problem will fix itself by tomorrow.

bunny 04-07-06 10:04 PM

It works, now. Took Shabi's music post to get me in. LOL ;)

eejit101 04-07-06 11:08 PM

trust shabi to manage to get bunnys problems fixed.

bunny 04-12-06 07:41 PM

Can't post.

I guess I've overstayed my welcome.

Robbie Robb 04-12-06 07:56 PM

And yet you're able to post here??? Very odd. This definitely does not seem like a server-side problem.

bunny 04-12-06 08:00 PM

I have a post I typed up in the HSIHPT section, I've tried 3 times to post it and it won't let me. Run time error, I think.

Robbie Robb 04-12-06 08:16 PM

Hmm. By the sounds of it you're trying to copy and paste it in. I'm wondering if somehow some special characters (perhaps invisible) became inserted into the original and that's what causing the error.

bunny 04-12-06 08:21 PM

Well, it's a HH. If I type up a post on the spot, I'm able to do that. I even tried pasting just part of it, but can't.

edit: Okay, after much trouble and testing, I finally was able to post it. I do believe you're on to something with you assumption.

Talking Poker 04-13-06 12:40 AM

I don't know why you are having all these problems bunny (since no one else seems to be), but way to jump to a crazy conclusion. Nice assumption.

Just to clear this up once and for all, if you ever get banned, you won't be able to post ANYWHERE on the site, or even read the site for that matter. It will also say "Banned" under your name. Oh, and you'll also know that it was coming. In other words, it will be pretty damn clear.

I don't just randomly decide to not let certain people post in certain sections.

bunny 04-13-06 01:02 AM

  Quoi?
