Vegas Advice

My company is flying me to Vegas for a conference next month. I haven't been there for about 2 years, before the poker craze hit. It wasn't hard to find a decent game with solid players then but I have heard from friends that the wait lists for most places are ridiculously long and the players now are very circumspect. I have only a limited time available for playing poker and would like to hear any advice on good places to play now where I won't have to wait long to get into a good game. I prefer to play in the $6/$12 - $8/$16 range or 100-$200 NL tables. Also any good tourneys or a $5/$10 Omaha Hi-Lo table would be worth it. Any help would be appreciated.

I'll be out there when you are. Depends what part of town you're in, but downtown - the Golden Nugget has a great poker room. Binions is Binions, of course. Up the strip, check out the Mirage and of course, the mother of them all - the Bellagio. A lot of the casinios have some sort of poker room now, but those are the ones I would recommend. As for tourneys, pretty much every day of the week, there is something going on. Open the back of a Card Player magazine for a complete list. Most are fairly low buy ins.... I'm hoping to get into the Bellagios' Wednesday tourney, which I believe is $500. Maybe I'll see you there!

God I love Vegas

Are you going to CES? I bet you are -- I was there last year, and had a blast. Great conference, and even more fun afterwards.

I'll be there myself the following weekend, but on my own dime.

As for poker rooms, I can also recommend Mandalay Bay, which has a very nice room, with a 6/12 game ()

And TP is absolutely right about the Bellagio, the epicenter of the poker world, though you likely will have a wait.

I expect a detailed trip report from you both!

i just have to echo the advice others have given so far. for play on the strip, bellagio is clearly number one, and the mirage is pretty good as well. both of those rooms have pretty good traffic coming through.

as for omaha games, you might have to do some searching. the only one at bellagio is a 20/40 kill game (and the stakes opften are higher depending on who is in town), and the mirage sporadically has a 5/10 kill. i didnt play at any other place on the strip that even had an omaha game going.
