URGENT: Pick up the phone - takes one minute to leave a message!

I received the email below from the PPA today. I called the number for the Fed's Consumer Complaint line, and they gave me a number to call to leave a message about opposing the UIGEA. I called, and left about a one minute message. the number they gave me is:

202-974-7008

Americans, PLEASE CALL!!!

done. this looks horrible. it's supposed to happen for real on friday.
Something everyone that enjoys online poker should be aware of. This is the PPA alert.

from 2p2...

Just one week after a historic election the Poker Players Alliance is pitted in a fight to keep anti-Internet poker regulations from being enacted and we NEED YOUR HELP!

The current Administration is hastily finalizing a number of “midnight rules” before they leave office and the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) is on the list. See the 11/06 story in Dow Jones. Just like UIGEA was snuck into legislation in the dark of night in 2006, our opponents are again trying an 11th hour sneak job. We need you to help us expose and stop this reckless rulemaking.

Please call the U.S. Federal Reserve and tell them not to approve the UIGEA regulations -- Consumer Complaints, 888-851-1920 or Public Affairs, 202-452-2955.

Tell them:

The federal agencies responsible for our nation’s economy should not be focused on Internet poker regulations.
Finalization of the UIGEA rules will add additional burdens on our already crippled financial systems.
Internet poker is a game of skill and form of recreation for millions of Americans; it should be exempted from the UIGEA.
Please do not finalize the UIGEA regulations until their impact on our banking systems and average Americans has been fully studied.
Your call will make a huge difference and will add the public’s voice to these last minute policy decisions our government is poised to make. We can’t stand idly by while they make decisions that will impact our right to play America’s card game. PLEASE CALL TODAY!

OK, done.

Now, for the less educated among us, I thought the UIGEA was the bill that banned credit card use and basically all forms of payment processing from US based processors and that was already in place?

Is this something different?

Fucking right wing bastards.

Talking Poker 11-10-08 08:35 PM

JD's post looks so very, very familiar to me, but I can't quite place from where.

Penguin - Yes, this bill was signed into law (by being snuck in to a Safe Port Act by idiot Republicans) over 2 years ago. Banks were given 270 days to comply, and the date was pushed back and it was discussed and argued and blah blah blah.

Well, now that the idiot Republicans are getting the boot, they want to give us one more swift kick in the nuts before they go.

Even if you are an idiot Republican and don't care about poker, do you seriously think our banks need to deal with this shit right now? Do they not have enough problems???

jillaj 11-10-08 09:21 PM

Don't the almighty Dems have have a majority? Can't they shoot this down if they want to?
edit: nevermind I actually read your first post now

I think too many lobbyists have given too much money to Dems and Republicans for this to not pass.

Talking Poker 11-10-08 09:39 PM

I fear you are right.

And unfortunately, the almighty Dems aren't in charge yet, so the fucking idiot Repubs (pronounced "re-pubs" as in pubic hair) can still pull bullshit like this.

Thanks Dubya. Really, thanks.

Reel Deal 11-11-08 09:52 AM

Done.

melioris 11-11-08 07:34 PM

done

But I am in the same camp as PF here. As far as I know almost every bank is following this "law" already. From , "The controversial rules would make it illegal for banks to process credit card transactions from most Internet gambling sites." I haven't deposited in a long time, but based on the nature of games these days and the increase in begging, not many folks in the US have either.

And it still wouldn't affect depositing those checks from the processors, right?
