In the hand with the British "Professor" and John Cernuto (sp) where after John bets, and the professor is making a decision (and looks like he is going to soon fold) Scotty says "9 high is gunna take down this pot"

If the Prof had called I would have had SERIOUS words for Scotty and immediately called a floor. I mean what the fuck kind of shit is that? You cant say things like that if you're not in the hand, and as long as he's been around the game he should know better.

If a director had been called over I wonder what the consequences would have been? I know I would have been FURIOUS

After what Jamie Gold did and not get in trouble I think nothing is wrong nemore.

Here is the problem with throwing a hissy fit if the professor called-the rules need to be consistently applied to all players in every case. So the players involved (in this case the John guy) should have called the floor over and raised hell either way the hand played out. Things get screwy when you are only going to complain if the table talk affected the decision-making of the players involved.

See theres where I dont agree.

If any table talk from someone outside the hand affected the decision making of the players involved it should be immediate grounds for a complaint.

Notice how I did not say in which way (favorable or unfavorable) it affected his decision (i.e to call or to fold)... but either way if his decision was influenced by an outside source its bullshit Imo

I think we are in agreement. I am only saying that the rule should be enforced regardless of the outcome of the hand. It doesn't matter what the action is, the floor should be called and the player should complain on the basis of the comment being made.

A player in a hand that violates a rule can have his hand called dead. For Scotty, since he was out already, would the penalty have been a timeout on the rail?

FWIW, I saw the episode, and I'm with you.

I haven't seen the episode, but I've complained about people talking about a hand in progress in online games. It's a serious issue that needs to be addressed right away at the table - and anyone at the table can call for a ruling on this.

Usually when it's happened online I simply tell the person it's a no no and they back off - seems to be just a lack of knowledge, but there's no excuse for a pro to do it.

In this case - without actually seeing it - the first thing is likely to be a warning (tournament floor people seem pretty soft at first), but after that the only other recourse is a rail penalty.

I remember mike the mouth getting a penalty for swearing in a tournament (it took a lot to get him the penalty I thought). He kept swearing at the floor guy and by the time he was done Mike was out for 30 minutes or something... I think the penalties came down in 5 minute increments if I remember right.

I find it very odd that stupid rules are often enforced, but IMPORTANT ones are not. If you say "fuck" at the table - even in if you aren't in the hand and it's not directed at anyone else (ie: "I got fucking lucky there."), you can get a penalty. Oddly enough, by the rules alone, you could say something much worse and direct it at someone else, and that would be ok, as long as the f-bomb wasn't in there. :confused:

If you expose one or more of your hole cards during a hand (even heads up), you can get a penalty. If you TELL THE TRUTH when someone asks you what you have, you can get a penalty - but it's ok to lie. :eek: This is the most retarded rule I've ever heard. You have to say crap like, "I'd like to tell you thatr I havce pocket Queens, but I'm not allowed to tell the truth, so I won't tell you that." That's fine, of course, since you're not actually saying what you have.

As for what Scotty said, he should know better. That was flat out wrong and he should have been given at least a warning. You just can't do that, even if you are only "joking." The problem is, it would be difficult for either player IN the hand (especially Miami John in this case) to call a floor over, because that could give additional information to the guy making the decision. After the hand though, someone should have said something - AT LEAST directly to Scotty if they didn't want to call a floor.

Did I mention that the rules aren't enforced consistently? That's the worst part of it all... If some people have to play by stupid rules, EVERYONE should have to play by the same stupid rules.

It was four 10 minute penalties, and the first one came VERY lightly. He was wrongly accused of throwing cards and was about to get a penalty. That's when he dropped the fbomb (not directed at anyone, just the situation), and he got the first 10. He then cursed about that, and it went on and on until he finally stopped at 40 minutes.

I wonder if I'm thinking about something else then - I seem to recall him being pretty belligerent before being sent off.

After the first one though - the next 3 were just plain really fucking stupid. And yes, I'm off to the rail...:cheers:
