Out of morbid curiosity

How often do you guys still go to or post at RPG. I find that I am rarely, if ever looking there since the advent of this forum. I guess that was kind of the idea when TP created this place, if so, mission accomplished.

Anyone else?

GeoffM 11-04-04 04:38 PM

I haven't check in since I signed up for this forum and starting posting. I actually am lieing, I checked it once yesterday out of curiousity and saw the last 5-10 posted threads were all in relation to the election results. This is on a POKER FORUM.

Rgp Rip

I do quick scans now and again, but the signal to noise ratio is ridiculous. I do still enjoy 2+2, though the volume of posts can be difficult to keep up with .

Both definitely makes me appreciate what we have here!

ChipFish 11-04-04 04:41 PM

I don't bother with it at all...
Let me help you out with what you are missing...

1 Relevant post on poker
259 posts about badbeats...
1238 posts starting with OT(off-topic)
and 456382 posts begging for money.

It's a waste of time.

BlibbityBlabbity 11-04-04 04:42 PM

Rarely look there anymore. I would only read the posts there anyway as I was not signed up at recpoker.com and I couldn't seem to get the newsgroup thing working in Outlook. This is SOOOOO much more useful as a community of poker players. :)

hackers238 11-04-04 04:46 PM

Agree

I have been on here only a day, but looking back it has been, and has the potential to be so much more useful. RecPoker is pretty much spam now... and to think that I was one against moderated boards!

When you really think about it though, the freedom of speech argument is not comparable to the amount of spam that recpoker receives daily. I mean if you say something and it gets "moderated", then obviously there was something wrong with it. I dont know, just what I think

kudos for starting these boards.

junYUN 11-04-04 05:33 PM

haven't been there since this forum started...too much crud. i like the general discussion section here because it's fairly small, and the poker discussion is at about the same level.

Talking Poker 11-04-04 06:32 PM

:D

You guys rule. It's really good to hear all the positive feedback. Feel free to spread the word about this place. I stopped "advertising" the TPF entirely once I realize how popular it was getting and how fast, and how it was likely going to cost me a small fortune. But hopefully I'll break even or better in the long run... in no small part due to you guys supporting the forum by trying out new sites through my affiliate links:

I know... I better be careful of the SPAM now that ChipFish can moderate me ;)

Aequitas58 11-04-04 07:00 PM

I check it everyday, but I no longer post. The last month was terrible on RGP, simply because of politics and the election. I think it'll take another month to die down.

Once that happens, it'll hopefully go back to being a busy (poker related) NG - of course, with any newsgroup (unmoderated) there will be a lot of stupid, meaningless posts.

Tuff Luck 11-04-04 08:17 PM

I check on it every once in a while.

GeoffM 11-05-04 08:16 AM

LMAO.

You are doing one kickass job. This forum is incredible, gets me through the work day. I'll be up to 450 posts in no time :D.

LoneWolfAlfonso 11-05-04 08:22 AM

RGP?? or, rather, RPG??

I've never been on RGP or RPG or whatever it's called, and I've only been on this site for one day as well, but I enjoy seeing that every post has a subject or an individual idea that was well thought out, not just junk. It feels like you're getting much more than with other forums.

hackers238 11-05-04 09:28 AM

Yes I agree. And I think that its probably because of the whole monetary compensation that has been offered, so people don't want to just post crap. I hope that once that policy ends (which it must when this board gets more popular), this board will still be clean and idea driven.

EDIT (as to not double post):

goto to see what the others are talking about. This message board used to be the place to go for good poker information before spammers pretty much took over the boards. One of the problems was that it was never moderated (I'm sorry i was against moderation now!), and eventually degraded from poker talk to spam, referral links, bad beat stories, and mostly off topic posts.

GeoffM 11-05-04 09:56 AM

This forum is a hell of a lot more user friendly, and better organized. Not everything is just bunched together into one big room, there are seperate areas for seperate items.

It also seems like there are several more posters than there was even yesterday, and as the sight continues to grow, that will give us more to talk about and get me to the magical 1000th post that much quicker :D.

PShabi 11-05-04 12:04 PM

I check it out of boredom when we're slow here. Not only is it stupid, but it's next to impossible to find a discussion you were in unless you wanna dig through pages of crap.

I rarely post, and when I do, it's usually just something stupid to make fun of someone or to continue a joke.

This site is about 5% of RGP's post volume and the posts are 200% better.

Thanks site admin.

TajaUk 11-05-04 12:51 PM

I thought it might be a good place to read poker posts last year, as I heard alot of the pro's read it. Sadly it's a crap forum full of people trying to beg, steal or borrow money from others. It's simply not worth trolling for 1 hour to find the odd post thats a good read. If they had mods on their deleting all the non-poker threads along with the aff. / beg / borrow / shit talking posts it would be fine.

Penguinfan 11-05-04 01:40 PM

You would still be at this forum simply because the number of posts here would be 50x what was at RPG without the crap.

TajaUk 11-05-04 03:28 PM

Not true, u do get some excellent posts in there. Josh A was on their after wsop aired, was amusing,

GeoffM 11-05-04 03:35 PM

Just checked out recpoker again, looks like they cleaned it up a bit, so it's prettier, but still crappy IMO.

Baseballa19 11-30-04 12:40 PM

I haven't been back since registering here. Of course, that's like 40 minutes ago.....

Penguinfan 11-30-04 12:56 PM

But it's been a good fourty minutes, right?

SirFWALGMan 11-30-04 01:39 PM

Never

I never really read RPG. I still read 2+2 every once in a while. Sometimes I get some good info, but most of the time it is the same crap "What did I do wrong in this hand".. I can sometimes learn something from this, but nobody ever really explains the thinking behind why a move was right or wrong.

hime 11-30-04 03:05 PM

The one complaint I have about TP is that there aren't enough posters yet, but other than that, I'm liking this just fine.
