TalkingPoker.com PokerStars Theme

Okay, I've been playing around with this today and here's what I have so far. Please take a look at it and let me know what you think. I don't know that I'm quite happy with it yet and there's still a lot of little tweaks that need to take place - things like the default image colors, text boxes, etc. I may also change the color of the felt.

I'm open to suggestions! Please - suggest!

colours seem fine, but the extra star in the top left i dont like, also, cant you make the avator boxes contrast more with the table?

Here's a shot of it in action in the league tonight

kkirk1329 06-10-06 09:32 PM

dude thats pretty sweet, nice job

Robbie Robb 06-10-06 09:35 PM

Yep, that avatar boxes are something I plan on changing.

As for the star, that was one of the things I was sorta hedging about. I may offer a few different version of it...

Talking Poker 06-11-06 12:54 AM

I think I'd actually like it better without the big star in the background, and with all of the small one visible... probably in the lower right hand corner, where there is the most room.

Don't get me wrong, I think my three armed self down there is pretty cool, but how many people want to look at my ugly mug when playing???

Talking Poker 06-11-06 12:54 AM

What's the text in the background? I can make out some of it.... but I'm not sure what it's from.

X-Longshot-X 06-11-06 01:03 AM

it looks like the names of all the members on the tp.com site

Talking Poker 06-11-06 01:06 AM

It's definitely not that. The names listed are all "regulars," and there are also other words floating around in there - user titles, thread titles, other poker terms.... all sorts of stuff.

X-Longshot-X 06-11-06 01:13 AM

oh i see now....didnt catch that at first

Robbie Robb 06-11-06 07:42 AM

the top portion of the text alternates. the first line is various poker terms. In fact, if you look about 2/3 way across the top row you'll see 'kod' :). Then the next row is regulars from here, then more poker terms, then regulars. About halfway down I switch to just forum regulars from here. I tried to get all the regulars but I'm sure I missed some, and others probably are visible because of the table, but if you open up the bg.jpg picture in the theme itself you would be able to read the whole thing.

Actually, I'll post the "text" image here so everyone can see what it says a lot easier. I'll probably darken the text a bit - it's a little tooo difficult to read.

Robbie Robb 06-11-06 07:45 AM

Hmm...good idea. I'll have to play with that. I'm thinking what I may do is shift the star up the screen so that the bottom half of "Poker.com" isn't showing and you really just see the tips of the star. I really like that background and taking out the star and replacing it with more the background of the star would be a royal pain in the ass!

Here's the text layer moved to the top and more visible:

Nikita 06-11-06 08:39 AM

I see that bunny and shabi ended up next to each other in the text. ;)

eejit101 06-11-06 09:33 AM

yup, and me and Bdawg were called gay lovers, so us being by each other is nice i reckon

PShabi 06-11-06 10:47 AM

LOL!

Nice work Rob!

lightfungus 06-11-06 11:33 AM

Good stuff, I may agree with removing the one big star.

Robbie Robb 06-11-06 12:31 PM

I haven't completely removed the star - as I mentioned, if I want to continue to use the rest of the background (which I do), the star sorta needs to stay. I have adjusted the position of the star though so that you don't see any of the "Poker.com" at the bottom. All you pretty much see is some of the points of the star.

I've got a bit more work to do on the background then I'll upload an update. Then I have to start work on the rest of the theme - all the text, avatar bubbles, etc.

Revision 2

Okay, here's rev 2. As you can see, the star is still present but not quite AS prominent now.

Any comments on the felt color? Should it be different? Obviously not blue (that would just too much blue)

Now it's time to start on the rest of theme.

HEwong 06-11-06 01:51 PM

i like it. good job Robbie Robb.

eejit101 06-11-06 03:04 PM

and how do i download this theme?

Talking Poker 06-11-06 03:28 PM

Rookette? Hawt? Who are these "regulars" that you speak of???

Talking Poker 06-11-06 03:33 PM

This is coming along very nicely. I like the position of the Star and the position of the me much better now. What I don't love is the ".com" but that's a logo issue that I've never resolved, and not a Robbie Robb issue.

I like the felt color. I think I'd prefer the seat avatars to be non-blue though. Maybe their "normal" gold (would match the star) or maybe even a shade of red...

Very good work, RR!

Robbie Robb 06-11-06 05:00 PM

It's not ready for download yet. As soon as it's ready, I'll make arrangements for it to be available for download with instructions on how to install it. Until PokerStars finalizes the client and adds in functionality for 3rd party themes, it's necessary to do a "work-around" for these types of themes.

I agree with the ".com" part. I'll have to see if I can work anything better. I have an idea but it just popped into my head so I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

I too was thinking gold/yellow for the avatars, but I'm gonna play around. Also, if anyone wants any custom felt colors, it shouldn't be TOO difficult to accomplish.
