My $100k plan.

I need goals, rules, and guidelines in poker or I just don't stay disciplined, my biggest weakness. Being 19 and having way too much $ will do that to most anyone I think.

Therefore I'm coming up with a plan I'm gonna stick to till I hit $100,000.
Tonight I cashed out all but 3,500.
This is an aggressive plan, but I need a challenge and I think I can do this and think it will make me better. I have been grinding 3/6 for way too long.

I'm starting at 1/2. Once I hit the BR mark I will move to stated level...
4k -> 2/4
6k -> 3/6
10k -> 5/10
25k -> 10/20
60k -> 25/50

If I drop down below the BR mark for that level, I will move back down till I get it back.

I'll play alot of HU cash probably, but also 6max. I'm gonna try to really concentrate when I play, and play no more than 5 tables at a time.

I of course will allow myself to play lower limits than my bankroll suggests if huge fish are there, like playing 3/6 with 20k, but I really don't plan on it. The best players suggest being aggressive with your bankroll, and playing tough opponents and finding ways to beat them is necessary. I am sick of relying on fish at lower levels.

For HU sng's I'm using the 30 buy in rule but I doubt I'll play very many.
If I happen to play tournaments, they won't count towards this, I will probably only play the Sunday's anyway.

I have no clue how long this will take, lately I haven't had that much time for poker. I am going to cash out during this process too, to keep putting $ into stocks, but I will count the $ i cash out towards being part of my bankroll even if it's not online since if I really need to, I can get it there anyway.

I'm either going to update here or in my blog at the end of every day, but I'm leaning towards here because it's so much easier and more convenient.

This sounds familiar. I'll venture a "no you won't".
Good luck.

sjay2k 02-16-07 08:05 AM

I like the idea. Good luck man!

This sounds like an excellent plan JD. I just hope that you can find the discipline within yourself to stick to it - TO THE LETTER.

eejit101 02-16-07 08:23 AM

yup, i have no faith, but shock me please. :cheers:

GTDawg 02-16-07 11:26 AM

I would be very happy to see you prove me wrong in my thinking that this will last (at most) through the next weekend.

Maybe everybody telling you that you can't do it will help you do it.

you know, reverse psychology and all that jazz.

Talking Poker 02-16-07 12:49 PM

I was going to put the over/under at 15 days. If you said 2/25, I'd take the under, but for 2/22, I just might take the over.

GL though JD. I hope you stick with it and it works out for you.

Aequitas58 02-16-07 12:52 PM

Making plans - like blogs - is fun! Maybe you'll keep up with this one. Seems like you have a hard time sticking too them, but you really like typing.

I have some letters and a pleading in dictation if you're looking for work... :)

JDMcNugent7 02-16-07 02:31 PM

I have no reason not to follow this plan till I reach my goal, it minimizes what are in my opinion, my 2 biggest mistakes I've made in poker...

1) Playing over my head / on tilt
2) Not moving up limits fast enough with intent to become a regular at the new limit. Much too often I would just take shots (I should probably be a regular 10/20 player by now)

Last time I made a plan to win 100k I proved everyone wrong, and I look forward to doing it again.

ChipFish 02-16-07 03:01 PM

I don't doubt that you will win $100k.
I do doubt that you will update daily on your blog until that point. :p

Go get your monies man. :thumbsup:

Talking Poker 02-16-07 03:42 PM

It's not that we don't think you CAN do it.... it's that we don't think you are discliplined enough to do it. $50 says you "take a shot" (meaning play even ONE HAND above the guidelines you set for yourself in the OP) by the end of the day - February 25th. I'll have to trust you to be honest and pay up when you lose, but I do. When the 26th rolls around and you swear you played every single hand from now until then within the guidelines you set for yourself, I'll ship you 50 bucks.

One thing we hsould clarify though - the bottom of your scale is 2/4. If you start off badly and drop to, say, $2000, will you still be playing 2/4? Because that's only 5 buy ins, which I think is WAY above where you should be playing...

JDMcNugent7 02-16-07 03:59 PM

I said I would play 1/2 till I get to 4k. So anytime I'm below 4k, I'll be at 1/2.

The $50 bet will be too hard to keep track of and too hard for me to verify to you. Say I hit 4k and play 2/4, lose the first hand, am out of the blinds, so I get to see my cards free. I technically just played a hand above my bankroll and would lose. So that bet just seems dumb. I will be staying in these guidelines though, and I will do the bet if there's a better way.

GTDawg 02-16-07 07:22 PM

Obviously TP doesn't mean to hamstring you with something silly like that.

However, what happens if that ultrafishy ;lkjhasdfi;j2135612 player is sitting all alone at that 10/20 table.

I mean, this dude is so bad its amazing. It'd be like hitting enter on an ATM.

Just clean him out like you usually do and it'll all be fine...

PShabi 02-16-07 08:27 PM

This plan sucks for the simple reason that I do not want to see JD at my 1/2 tables.

MAYHEM45 02-16-07 08:54 PM

Apparently he hates rakeback cuz he plays at Stars. We're safe.

Talking Poker 02-16-07 09:11 PM

Whew!

And yeah, as GT said, I wouldn't be THAT picky. You could certainly finish the orbit. I'd even be willing to give you like 10 or 20 BBs for variance. In other words, you are playing 1/2 and get to 4200 or something. So you move to 2/4. Now you drop to 3980. No, you don't need to move down THAT HAND - that's not what you are planning, right? But if you get down in the 3900 neighborhood (25 more BBs down), you'll probably finish the orbit and move down. At least that's what I'm guessing.

My money was more on the fact that I think you're either going to get bored and move up prematurely (especially from 3/6 to 5/10) or that uberfish is going t owant to play you HU and you won't be able to resist. I think you'll send me $50 just for the change to play him - therefore, I think this is a +EV bet.

I'm also assuming you plan on playing a lot between now and the 25th. If you don't get in at least 10k hands, I think I shouldn't have to pay off...

Boobie Lover 02-16-07 09:34 PM

Full Tilt is rigged.

ChipFish 02-16-07 09:44 PM

He's playing 2/4 Heads up already. The man is a Machine! :cheers:

He said he was keeping $3500 online and would play 2/4 with $4,000. It's definitely possible that he hit 4k.

I don't know about 6k though.

Extreme dissaplin?

or

Extreme degenerate?

Can't wait to find out!!!!!

jillaj 02-16-07 10:53 PM

Well that didn't take long to move up back to where he has been grinding it at.

PShabi 02-16-07 10:56 PM

Just talked to him

He's still within the roll. I say it's 5/10 by the end of the night!

Fly like an Eagle Jay D!!!!!

Boobie Lover 02-16-07 10:56 PM

I think playing HU with 10 buy-ins is a recipe for disaster.
