Anyone else?

I apologize if this has been discussed before.

I'm sitting here in a hotel in Iowa (lovely exciting Iowa) watching the WSOP FT. Am I the only one here who finds Jamie Gold incredibly f*cking annoying???

If I didn't know any better (him winning) - I'd be wishing he donk'd all his chips just 'cause I think he's more annoying than finger nails on a chalk board.

Am I wrong or just insanely jealous?

PShabi 09-26-06 09:22 PM

Eejit mode

I've never seen the WSOP FT.

nflchad 09-26-06 09:51 PM

If you think he's bad at the table check this out:

bdawg31 09-26-06 10:02 PM

i cant watch poker on tv anymore

All the grandstanding and blowhards and self-promotion - thrown in with all the bad beats - turns my stomach. Throw in the melodramatic feature stories of the players with the narration rambling on while they show them sitting at a table all contemplative and what-not - and i am done with it.

I used to really enjoy watching it on tv - i might have watched 10 minutes of ESPN coverage this year. If i see Danny N. as i am flipping through - i watch.

The only thing i watch now is High Stakes Poker on Gameshow Network.

Yeah, I found Gold to be really, really obnoxious. But you know what? I didn't really mind it as much as I minded that Eric WhatsHisName kid. The posturing worked really well, I thought, for Gold's game, and he never crossed the boundary of insulting another player's game.
In my mind, you can think what you want about someone else's play. But the second you bring it to public light, then you've crossed the line. From what I saw, Gold -- as obnoxious as he was -- respected his opponents. He just happened to pretty much catch every single card and every single opportune time. Personally, I've never cared if you're cocky, as long as you can back it up. Every time Gold opened his mouth, he gave himself the chance to stick his foot in it. A few times, he did. But with those cards, I'm not sure God Himself could have beaten him.

robthedlphin 09-27-06 12:52 AM

I haven't seen the final table, but I've seen all the other episodes. I think he should've been penalized for talking about his hand with more than 1 other person still playing that hand.

Dodoubled 09-27-06 01:27 AM

True ... the most egregious violation he committed, however, was showing one of his cards on purpose early during a live hand.

That said, what are the specific rules for table talk? I know, for example, that you can't point out specific possible hands, and you can't say, "I folded pocket 4s" when there's a 4 on the flop ... and all that stuff. But outside of general etiquette and respect, what are the hard-and-fast, "this'll get you in trouble" rules?

Akverno 09-27-06 05:33 AM

"Norman Chad said by far the greatest display of poker talent in the history of poker"

I haven't seen the final table yet, but what a fuckin moron (both of em). Be it Norman Chad for saying that, or that idiot for actually believing it.

Quint 09-27-06 08:07 AM

...'cause Norman Chad never says anything sarcastic.

Kurn 09-27-06 09:51 AM

You da man!

Seriously, if Gabe Kaplan said the same stuff Chad says, people would be falling all over each other to praise him. The more I listen to Chad, the more I like him.

As for Gold, well. I'll just say he got better cards than Varkonyi did in '02.

Reel Deal 09-27-06 02:47 PM

Unbelievable... I don't know if I've ever heard anyone more in love with themselves.

"I won six weekly tournaments in a row at the Hustler Casino... people started calling me the best of the minor leagues."

Talking Poker 09-27-06 03:21 PM

Listening now. Wow... what an idiot.

It would be funny if it wasn't so annoying.

Man, it really does get worse and worse, doesn't it?

This is the direct link, btw, instead of digging through two other sites first:

Talking Poker 09-27-06 03:30 PM

OK, I can't stand this man.

I mean, I'm sure this guy was on some sort of "high" after the big win, and that's reasonable, but this is ridiculous.

Kurn 09-27-06 04:59 PM

I say we start lobbying to get him on "High Stakes Poker." I'd love to see him get his clock cleaned in a cash game.

JDMcNugent7 09-27-06 05:01 PM

total idiot. i listened to some of it.
my god, he said hes the kobe bryant of poker.
and that daniel N was saying he wish he could be more like jamie gold lol.

Kurn 09-27-06 05:12 PM

I'm sure Daniel would've liked to get the cards and the boards Gold got.

lightfungus 09-27-06 06:56 PM

"Sooner or later, I'm gonna trap all of them." As said by Gold to his "mentor" Johnny Chan...the look on Johnny's face when Gold asked "I'm playing good, right?" was one of restraint, as all I think he wanted to say was, "Your lucky as fuck, you little fuck."

Reel Deal 09-27-06 09:30 PM

I would pay to see that.

Talking Poker 09-27-06 10:09 PM

He actually made a comment in that interview about wanting to challenge some of the top players - namely the big table talkers - to play for $1 million each, heads up. He specifically mentioned Hellmuth, who apparently "sucks" at cash game play, according to Jamie and the two dorks doing the radio interview.

I would so love to see him go broke. Then again, it shouldn't take long:
$12 million won
-6 million to the dude he promised 50%
-2 million for taxes
=$4 million

HOPEFULLY he'll spend at least $1 million of that on his family (namely his Dad), leaving him just $3 million to piss away at the tables.

BrianSwa 09-28-06 09:04 AM

well

I dont really think Jamie is hurting for money with or without his wsop hit at the main event. He seems to be doing very well for himself and has a pretty good job.

that aside I cant stand this guy, he is arrogant and acts like he is gods gift to poker. His radio interview makes me want to vomit, actully all the last couple of champions I have not really been impressed with all around. Ok Raymer is the exception I like that guy. Haschem I like at 1st but after seeing how much he cries about beats in the wcoop I dont like him anymore and well moneymaker....he is just moneymaker. I watched hachem last couple events and he just cried and cried and not just when he lost to bad beats, he got all in with like QQ vs AK and lost and was like "of course", dude you won 7.5 million get over it.

ok back to Jamie, he backs up his terrific play by saying he won so much before the main event. Now what I would like to see is fotage of him before he became the big chip leader, like from day 1 & 2 to see if he sucked out alot or something, also something that striked me as funny was his comment that he asked Norman Chad if he was playing good, wtf ask him? he is looking for future interviews what you think he is going to say no dude your a complete donk moron.

his talk at table was boarderline collusion, he basicly told the guys sitting next to him that if you fold your blinds to me I will keep you guys around awhile in tourney. How is that not collusion? please someone explain that. He also said he had Cunningham totally figured out and didnt fear him at all at final table, dude cunningham is like the most underratted player there is, he is beyond solid and ANYTIME I sit with a player of his callibar I would be worried. I cant stand people that act like this after they win, like they were soo much better then everyone else.

sorry about my rant but he just pissed me off.

Reel Deal 09-28-06 10:10 AM

I think this all comes down to him being a little short man with a massive inferiority complex.

I mean how many times did he go over to Johnny Chan and say, "I'm playing good, right?" If only Johnny would have said, "No, you're a card catching luckbox now go sit down and shut the fuck up."

studiopet 09-28-06 10:54 AM

Awesome.

Thank you all for validating that I'm not insane in my thinking.

And I listened to that interview as well. I'd rather take glass shards and stick them in both my eyes and pour rubbing alcohol all over my face before listening to this guy talk about himself again.

The horror, the horror....

Now, to finish, as I am to online poker what Tiger is to the PGA - I'm gonna whip all your asses in the TPF league. I see Princess hasn't signed up. He has smart $$ not to sign up as he sure as shit isn't gonna cash in it. I will miss putting him out though.

BrianSwa 09-28-06 11:03 AM

well

I still have it on my desktop because want my buddie to hear it tomorrow at work but after that I will be deleting it for sure.

Tony Cheval 09-29-06 11:35 PM

The interviewers were sucking his dick so hard, I'm shocked the FCC didn't fine them for obscenity violations.
