Soccer -

Who here likes soccer? Soccer is probably my favorite sport. One of my favorite teams is Chelsea. The reason I point out Chelsea being one of my favourite teams and not saying some of my other favourite teams, is because... they are amazing? :)

So what are some of your favourite teams/leagues/players?

drewjax 12-15-06 07:14 PM

Soccer=CommiePinkoHomo's

thats my story, and I'm sticking to it

Thank god for brain translations.....i saw the thread title and naturally translated it as "Grass Faries" and had to have a peek inside

I love soccer myself :)

Favorite team is definitely 1. FC Nuernberg, just cause I grew up watching them. Theyre not amazing by any means, although they have a lot of history. My greatest memory is going to Munich to see the Bayern derby as a little kid and Nuernberg ruining Bayerns chances at the title.

Did I mention I really REALLY dont like Bayern Munich? And sorry, by that token I really dont like Michael Ballack too much, although he does play for chelsea now.

Favorite players...of all time, definitely Andy Koepke. Greatest goalie that Nuernberg and the German national team ever had. Currently active, hmm, I have to admit, watching Leo Messi play is quite exciting. If I were to stay with my boys in Germany, probably Miro Klose.

and since when have u liked chelsea???

I love FOOTBALL (a.k.a soccer) and support manchester united as my family has done for life, kinda of a tradition.

Been to see them 15 times, all awesome experiences.

And yes, i believe united are 5 points clear in the league, of chelsea to be exact.

Bear in mind there is no wage cap in the UK league, chelsea have the most valuable team in the world, if not 2nd to real madrid, they have spent near on 700million on transfers, if not more. United on the other hand has a lot of homegrown talent, brought up in the youth games, and spent exactly 13mil on 1 player in the last 14 months.

Chelsea aint a football team, its a business venture. Some mulit-billionaire was bored and wanted to own a football club that now makes shitloads of cash.

I like whatever team the guys in Green Street Holligans (good flick) were rooting for. I hate whatever team(s) they hated.

I'm pretty impressionable like that.

My indoor team won our season opener last night :D   :)

eejit101 12-16-06 08:33 AM

1. they follow the hammers (west ham, currentyl 18/20 in the league)
2. They hate millwall.
3. AWESOME movie

Kurn 12-16-06 04:33 PM

I pay attention to soccer once every 4 years.

That being said "ITALIA!!!!!"

melioris 12-16-06 04:33 PM

Just got back from vacation and I am happy to find this thread.

I casually follow the EPL and Championship league (esp teams with Americans on them), La Liga, Seria A, and, to a lesser extent, the dutch, german and Mexican leagues. But I would only really consider myself a fan of MLS. Yes it is shitty soccer, yes the team names are a joke, and yes the league is run by a bunch of losers with very little exception (the exceptions sadly lost a good one recently-RIP Lamar Hunt). But being an American who loves soccer, I got to root for the home country league. I don’t understand American soccer fans that disparage the MLS but are fanatic about European soccer. It is reminiscent of fake english accent. With that said I would gladly sacrafice a pig or something if I thought it would help Watford avoid relegation.

Favorite team-NE Revolution. I have seen at least 4 Revs home games each season. Don’t think that I will continue that streak after moving to the Midwest. But I will never allow myself to root for the Fire.

Favorite Player-American-probably C. Dempsey, but really we are still such a small soccer nation that any I like US player that represent in a good manner.
Favorite Overall- .
Favorite Ever-As a defender I have to go with the .

Finally, Studio-congrats on the win!!

X-Longshot-X 12-16-06 04:37 PM

Where in the midwest? My dad goes to every Columbus Crew "Grass Fairy" home game each year and even stops in for some of the US games they hold there.

melioris 12-16-06 05:02 PM

ah dude, look at my first post and this one again, then see if you still need to ask that question.

I have been to crew statium a few times over the years, the last time when the Nats destroyed Mexico and we qualified for Germany. Don't see myself making it down there too frequently though, as I really don't like yellow.

ChipFish 12-16-06 05:34 PM

Soccer is neat!

I'll explain it to those of you who are unsure how it works:

1) Place big white ball anyplace on field.
2) Have members of opposing team run towards ball
3) ***IMPORTANT***
Without actually contacting a)the ball or b)each other, see which person can hit the ground crying like little girl first.
4) Get carried out on stretcher
5) Head back out for next play and repeat above steps until game is declared a 0-0 draw or a shoot the lights out 1-0 hammering.

:p

Actually this is my favourite part of soccer --->

Post of the Month
This is great, i love it chip, you should post around this place more often :-)

ChipFish 12-23-06 06:16 PM

I would, but I may offend the hooligans.

X-Longshot-X 12-23-06 06:22 PM

Fuck the hooligans

Tony Cheval 12-23-06 08:51 PM

Blame the Internet. Actually the first English side I followed was Wolves (there was a hilarious thread at one point about employing wheelie bins to shore up the defense), but then I discovered a QPR discussion board or something, and something just clicked. That match against ManU where Cantana scored after like a million minutes of stoppage time just killed me (was televised here even).

Reel Deal 12-23-06 10:30 PM

Is that Pele dude still playing?
