College plays week 1

I'll keep all the college plays in this thread and make another one for all NFL plays.

Keep in mind I have no money wagered on these games, this is just for fun for me, enjoy:

Week 1

Georgia +5.5
This is more of a line movement play than anything else. I don't see as many points being scored here as a lot of people who are driving the O/U number through the roof and can see Georgia holding it's own, and then some.

Virginia Tech +6.5
Simply, the wrong team is favored here. Tech's defense is much better then most think and there just aren't going to be a lot of points scored in this game. If you are a Bama backer, so be it, just don't lay that many points here.

I probably won't reply in here every week, but I will be reading your thoughts and probably often betting your suggestions.

PShabi 09-05-09 02:13 PM

+1.

I got VT +7.

Penguinfan 09-05-09 02:26 PM

Again, I don't have 10 cents involved so take it for what it's worth, but if I could find +7 somewhere I'd hammer it.

claudioxcore 09-05-09 02:28 PM

Go Dawgs. :D

MAYHEM45 09-05-09 03:37 PM

Go blue

JDMcNugent7 09-05-09 04:42 PM

I bet Mizzou +7.5 cuz we're awesome and we're gonna be ranked soon, also I'm going to bet with u on VT

GTDawg 09-05-09 04:54 PM

goddamn right go dawgs

Penguinfan 09-05-09 06:33 PM

WTF was the unnecessary roughness call on that pass for? Am I that far out of it that you can't hit a reciever after he touches the ball?

I honestly don't know that what the ruling was there????

GTDawg 09-05-09 06:34 PM

I think they scheduled the fourth quarter to be two-hand touch.

**Wait, apparently that play is ok 5 minutes later when the game is probably out of reach.

claudioxcore 09-05-09 07:12 PM

Yeah that was bullshit.

No one talk to me.

Penguinfan 09-05-09 08:23 PM

For the record, I'm not complaining, I honestly don't understand the call.

It wasn't pass interference, it was a personal foul? You can't hit a guy as the ball gets there hard enoough to make him drop it in college anymore?

jillaj 09-06-09 09:37 AM

Pretty much that is the case. Don't hit him hard enough that he doesn't catch the ball.

Kurn 09-06-09 12:23 PM

Not sure about college, but the NFL has a new "defenseless receiver" hit rule this year. Ronnie Lott wouldn't have a career.

Add to this the "Brady Rule". Ugh. The feminizing of football continues. RIP Ronnie Lott, Jack Tatum, Charlie Waters and Fletcher "the stretcher" Smith.

To quote Jack Lambert "Why don't they just wear dresses?"

Talking Poker 09-06-09 01:05 PM

Ask Spuddy, IMO. And LOL at Lambert's quote.

Not the best start to the Penguinfan 2009 College plays thread, but I have faith you will turn it around. If not, I'll just start betting against your picks. :)

claudioxcore 09-06-09 03:33 PM

Well I believe the call was because he thought he was diving head first, and when you look at it from the sidelines, it did look like head driven tackle.

But in reality, he lifted his shoulder and put him down. Which is completely fine.

That's why Oklahoma States didn't get called for the penalty on the next possession in a similar situation. It was more clear that he lifted his shoulder.

None the less I think it's bullshit and if the dude's try to catch the ball I think you should be able to do whatever you want short of using a weapon to get him to drop it after he's got a hand on it.

JDMcNugent7 09-06-09 06:43 PM

If the defender fell also after the hit, or didnt celebrate a little afterward, pretty sure it wouldn't have been called. was horrible call

Penguinfan 09-08-09 07:35 PM

Careful, I have been out of the game for a bit. Give it till week three and yo should have a solid read as to weather or not to follow or fade.

I am good with whatever makes people some money.

Spidey44 09-10-09 10:04 AM

I think TP was referring to me, not Spuddy (I'm the college football official so I think he's referring to me). Anyone have a youtube of the play in question?

My guess is leading with the helmet or perhaps "aiming" for the head, but if you can get a vid, I can break it down for you. Really cracking down on "defenseless players." Anything towards the head is going to get you 15. And remember, the coaches make these rules, NOT the officials. We just do our best to enforce them.

Talking Poker 09-10-09 10:25 AM

Sorry about that... and yeah, I meant you, the college ref with the hot wife. :)

Brain fart typo.

Spidey44 09-10-09 10:31 AM

Haha...no problem.

Penguinfan 09-10-09 06:21 PM

More importantly, is your wife really hot? If so, WP.

Penguinfan 09-12-09 05:19 AM

WEEK 2

Can week two be worse for me than week one? SURE CAN because today I try to play three games instead of two :)

Arkansas St +21 Yea, Nebraska is good and will win this game, but 21 is just too many points to lay against a team that can hog the ball with a decent running game and probably put up a few points as well. If, IF Arkansas St can get even two TD's (which they really should) Nebraska is gonna need 5 TD's and another score to cover this number. The number of full posessions they get will be limited and this Nebraska offense isn't gonna score every time they touch the ball.

Iowa -6.5 Iowa is simply the better team here without question. This should be a double digit win and quite honestly is almost good enough to bring me out of retirement, almost.

Southern Mississippi -14 Not that Southern Miss is that good, but UCF is that bad, honestly. I would have thought this line to be higher and think it's "only 14" based on the final score of last years game. Route......

Wes 09-12-09 09:06 AM

sweet i bet iowa -6 before i saw your picks

Reel Deal 09-12-09 10:27 AM

Iowa had to block a potential game winning FG twice last week against Northern Iowa, I'm surprised you have that much confidence in them this week. Or is Iowa State just that bad?
