World Cup QuarterFinals Picks

Germany vs Argentina

Lines:

Germany +170
Argentina +180
Draw +200

Pick: No Play. This is going to be the toughest and closest game of all 4, and I see it being a tie or a 1 goal win by either team when 90 minutes are over. My edge if I had to pick would go to Germany, simply for home court, but this game is too close to wager on

Italy vs Ukraine

Lines:

Italy -170
Ukraine +550
Draw +260

Pick: Ukraine. No, Im not saying they are going to win, but this is more of an investment bet. Thinking long term, if these teams played 5 games, Italy would not sweep all 5. I think the Ukrainians have a decent shot at this game and this price is simply too good to pass up. Italy has looked VERY beatable, both against the US and Austrialia where they got a gift penalty. Referee's have given them a lot this tournament... as an investment bet, I take Ukraine here

Portugal vs England

Lines:

Portugal +280
England +100
Draw + 220

Pick: England. Key Stat: Three of Portugal's top players are not playing this game, two because of red cards vs Holland and 1 because of injury. Arguably 3 of the 4 best players on the team are out.

England's been hyped very much this entire tournament, but they have looked suspect in almost every game (although winning them all). At even money, with Portugal's players out, I'm going with Great Brit here, although a draw wouldn't surprise me that much.

Brazil vs France

Lines:

Brazil -125
France +350
Draw + 250

Pick: Brazil. France has looked impressive and the game vs a tough Spain team could have gone either either way, and France stepped up scoring two goals in the last 5 minutes....but Brazil has looked too dominate thus far. Yea Ronaldo is out of shape with a gut, but he's still a damn good player, Ronaldino is one of the best if not the best in the world and not laying big money, it's tough to bet against Brazil... I don't think we've even seen their full power as of yet, and they've torn through the comp thus far.

There's how my betting is going to be going.... anyone else?

Uhh no, the penalty for Italy against Australia wasn't a 'gift', that was clear obstruction in the box, you just don't go down like that when you have the angle covered chump. :p

Sure the Italian made the most of it, but what else was he gonna do, go Juggernaut on him?

Zybomb 06-29-06 01:56 PM

not worth the odds on brazil  They are only small favs  Typically they've been laying -400 or more

eejit101 06-29-06 08:11 PM

france are dangerous, brazil arent turning it up yet.

This is too risky IMO, i might to a quad bet in the local real life bookmakers, something along the lines of....

Argentina=win/England=draw/Brazil=win/Italy=win.

that would be a nice payoff from a $10 bet

Zybomb 06-29-06 08:36 PM

I don't get it you said

"Brazil, whoever they play. But it aint worth it for the odds. too much of a risk"

But the odds aren't bad at all, $25 for every hundred (where a typical fig is $10 for every $100). Now you're saying France is too good of a team and might draw/win.... thats fine -- but if u think Brazil is going to take it, the vig isn't gunna pursuade you not to take them.... if they were -200, -300, -400 understandably...but -125?

eejit101 06-29-06 08:41 PM

i didnt get that odds thingy. My bad.

so i bet $1,000, i win $250 if they win?

Those arent odds id make a bet on, id stay away from it personally if your making a straight up win after 90.

Zybomb 06-29-06 08:56 PM

Brazil is -125. That means I have to risk $125 for every $100 I want to win.

France is +350 That means I have to risk $100 for every $350 I want to win

Brazil was normally in the -300 - -500 range. Meaning on most of their games thus far you'd need to risk 300 (or 500 or whatever they were minus) in order to win 100,

Zybomb 06-29-06 08:59 PM

The Argentina line has moved up $10 to +190 and Germany has moved down $20 to +150... seems thats the direction of the money thus far (my guess bc of home field)

France has moved up to $360 and Brazil has moved down to $-140... showing where the bettors have been going thus far

The other two games are still the same

eejit101 06-29-06 09:01 PM

ahh, change of plan, take brazil every day

Akverno 06-30-06 12:54 AM

Brazil is at -150 over at bodog. At -125 I'd seriously consider putting money in there and placing a bet.
