Best Thing EVER (Edit: durrr challenges the world HU)

First read the thread, then listen to this...

This is Tom Dwan, better know as "Durrr" online...

“I’m making this heads-up challenge to the world. Anyone can accept. Four tables, minimum of $200/$400, and I’ll put up $1.5 million to their $500,000. We play 50,000 hands minimum and if they end up a dollar after rake they keep the side money or whatever. So basically, if you and I played and you won a dollar, you would get my $1.5 million and if I won a dollar I would win your $500,000.

“So I’m giving a million dollars free if anyone thinks they can do it.”

[ ] giving away a million dollars
[x] laying 3-1 odds

1) 200-400min (nl/plo obv)
2) can change tables anytime eff stacks are >250bb
3) have to reload when stacks are <75bb
4) $$ won in the challenge is kept obv (if i win 750k in poker, i get that PLUS your 500k- if i lose 750k in poker you get 2.25m total).
5) same stakes the whole time
6) not open to phil galfond

Durrbrains

I'd actually buy 1% of sjay if he wanted to go for this. Maybe JD too.

Edit: Just noticed the 4 table thing.... that changes it a bit, I guess.

Reel Deal 01-07-09 11:57 AM

Speaking of sjay... where the fuck is he?

melioris 01-07-09 12:27 PM

Maybe I am just nitty, but I can't see doing this w/o 4 million behind (and 100 buyins for the minimum game to 4-table HU doesn't seem nitty).

Talking Poker 01-07-09 12:35 PM

Fine. .1%.

lol, I think the only reason I quoted your post in my about bankroll was because your post was what got me thinking about what kind of bankroll one would need to consider accepting this challenge. Someone more experience give a thought as to the bankroll needed, considering the players all probably don't have a huge edge over each other and most of the action will be coming from the 3:1 of the bet.

Ivey made me chuckle as he got to have it both ways, somewhat agreeing with the interviewer (Greenstein?) that the whole thing is a little childish considering "everyone knows I (Ivey) will play anyone at any game" but at the same time complementing Durrr as one of the few that will take anyone on at HU-NLHE.

Talking Poker 01-07-09 03:15 PM

Yeah, Greenstein suggests the "challenge" is nothing more than bravado, when there are guys who will play anyone at any time... but he seems to be forgetting about the $1.5 million to $500k being put up on the side. I don't think Ivey does that when you sit down to play HU with him.

I think high stakes challenges like this are cool. I like durrr, but I have to admit, it would be kind of "funny" (not the right word) to see him drop $3 or $4 million to Ivey before getting another $1.5 million kick in the junk.

I think Dwan will clean out David B. though, FWIW.

melioris 01-07-09 03:24 PM

DB has the option to play HUPLO and the 2+2 railbirds don't think anyone has an advantage over DB at HUPLO.

JDMcNugent7 01-07-09 03:25 PM

too bad they're all doing PLO. that coule be up to a 10 mill swing, durr Could be in trouble if he goes on bad run. I bet this is going to get even more people playing PLO tho, I should learn it.

Talking Poker 01-07-09 04:09 PM

I completely missed that PLO was an option. I retract my statement about David B.

This could be the end of durrrr the baller as the world knows him.

DB, Ivey, and Antonius have all accepted. I'm pretty sure Dwan is going to get cleaned out.

Reel Deal 01-07-09 05:52 PM

Wow, wow, wow.

Reel Deal 01-08-09 02:17 PM

Also, I'm in love with the girl interviewing him...

Zybomb 01-08-09 02:52 PM

what an awesome job, sign me up

Talking Poker 01-08-09 03:51 PM

Yeah, I predict durrr is in trouble here. Will be fun to follow though!

thadeas1 01-08-09 05:41 PM

Even thou this is an open challenge to anyone (except galfond) there is maybe a maximum of 7 or 8 players that would except : DB, Ivey, PA, the dang brothers, ilari sahamies, the circus billionaire and someone looking to take a shot.

imo durr will win this since he's taken money off most of them during the last year.

Robbie Robb 01-08-09 08:42 PM

I hear ya there!
