Football (Baseball?) Trivia

Inspired by the one-game plaoff last night (That's your only clue)

Who is the last person to beat out Peyton Manning for a starting QB job?

thrash1294 10-02-07 02:24 PM

clausen at tennesse?

Kurn 10-02-07 03:43 PM

Right place, wrong name.

redbank09 10-02-07 04:07 PM

that guy that transferred to texas a&m that started one game vs ucla when they were both freshmen. no googling this either, i just cant rember his name. i think it was brandon something

redbank09 10-02-07 04:13 PM

well i googled it now and i see who it was but that wasnt what i was thinking. so there was actually two guys to start over him then. im not gonna say so people can guess to figure it out.

i was right on the money on the timeframe it happened just the wrong guy. the guy that transferred to texas a&m started over clausen for one game, not peyton.

If what you're thinking of happened after Manning's Freshman year, then I asked the question wrong. The person I'm thinking of started at QB in Manning's Freshman year. If I'm wrong, the people at WEEI in Boston were lying when they interviewed this guy back in June.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but if I'm right, you're ignoring the clue. I thought of the guy while watching the baseball game last night (during the MNF commercials).

So much for doubting myself. Clausen was at UT after Manning.

redbank09 10-02-07 04:42 PM

the guy your thinking of was the back up to another guy. peyton was third string. mr baseball player came in and played for three games after the 1st string guy got hurt opening day, then peyton took over in the 4th game of the season.

Its just one of those interesting things that links 2 professional athletes in different sports.

I used to have another one that linked two big names in different sports that played in the 70's and 80's, but most people on this board might not recognize the names.

You got it.

Reel Deal 10-02-07 10:24 PM

Sorry, as a Jaguars fan I'm required to despise the guy.

Kurn 10-03-07 10:11 AM

We have it easier up here. We don't have to despise him, we just point out that our guy has 3x the rings.

Oh yeah, the answer

If anybody cares, the last guy to beat out Peyton Manning for a starting QB job was Rockies 1B Todd Helton.

omahilo 10-03-07 11:18 AM

Todd Helton... Im too late tho.

Talking Poker 10-03-07 12:18 PM

OK, I'll take a wild guess: Todd Helton. What do I win?

(Trivia is easy after someone posts the answer)

You guys are so stupid, it was Todd Helton. Duh.
