WANTED: Moderator

As this forum continues to grow (and especially for times like right now, when I'm out of town), I'm going to need some help moderating.

For the most part, very little will be required on your part. I try not to "censor" anything here, but of course anything extremely inappropriate needs to be deleted. Mostly though, you just need to keep an eye on things, move threads that are started in the wrong section to where they belong, delete blantant/obvious/excessive SPAM (especially when it's not in the SPAM section) - that sort of thing. No abusing your power though - complaints made to me will be taken seriously.

I know of at least two posters who have expressed interest in moderating, but to be fair and in hopes of getting the right peron for the job, here's what we're gonna do:

If you would like to be considered for the job, post a message in this thread saying so. On Tuesday (why not?), I'll set up a poll with the candidates and we'll let the community decide.

Sound good?

Jackass_man 10-27-04 11:20 PM

I think whatever you do don't let either aquitass or Charles frank moderate. A moderator should have unbiased views and be able to look at things subjectively and not let there own personal squabbles affect their own judgement. Can you honestly say either one of them would do this?

Tuff Luck 10-27-04 11:33 PM

I am interested in the job, and I have moderated at numerous other boards. I only fear that the poll will turn into a popularity contest, and those most known (i.e. most posts) will get the modship yet just because they know poker, they might not be right for the job. But, hey, I'll get a chance too so I guess I shouldn't complain. :)

Edit: And while I am not going to point any fingers, jackass has a point in that perhaps those biased shouldn't be eligible, but unless there is some way to accurately judge how biased/opinionate one is, the vote is probably the best way to go.

No problem TP, I'm up for it.

ChipFish 10-28-04 12:42 AM

I'll throw my name in the ring.
(seems like I'm always on the board anyways).

eddo31 10-28-04 02:51 AM

i dont think that i am qualified or the best for the position, but i second (or third?) the motion that we should be mindful of past posts when we vote in a moderator. if you can already get in a pissing match/flame war in just the first week that you post on a site, maybe you arent going to be the best moderator around.

bigjohnstud2o 10-28-04 02:56 AM

im interested

been a little crazy right now for me bc my wife is pregnant. Some tests and stuff. I dont know if meant me as one of the 2 talking poker. I sent you a PM about 5 days ago and i guess you have not read it. I am interested in the job though.

TajaUk 10-28-04 06:48 AM

I wouldn't mind. I browse these forums at weird times compared to you Americans so might catch things when no one else is awake.

Aequitas58 10-28-04 07:12 AM

Here we go again. Just started reading this thread, and it so happens that my name is mentioned. Ever think that you don't want me to be a moderator because all you do is start shit with me? Constantly? You're obsessed or something, dude - it's weird. (And it's not just you.)

Seriously.

I didn't even "apply" yet, and I don't know if I will. Damn.

Aequitas58 10-28-04 07:17 AM

What does most posts have to do with winning a popularity contest? I have more haters JUST becaust I have one of the top post counts ... and it's pathetic.

Just a word to the wise: when you're trying to "win" something, or come out favorably in a survey or poll or something, don't agree with someone named jackass, who makes a stupid comment to begin with.

Aequitas58 10-28-04 07:57 AM

Ok.

Ok.

No "why I should be moderator" speech though. I'll spare you the grizzly details.

GeoffM 10-28-04 08:19 AM

You got my vote buddy :) .

TajaUk 10-28-04 11:22 AM

It would help if any moderators actually encouraged discussion threads and contributed to the forum. I dont mean spam shit. One thing this forum does lack atm is quality posts that develop debate and help peeps out.

Defendant 10-28-04 03:29 PM

Nothing personal against Aequitas but as easily as jackass' posts get him on edge, I dont think hed be the best choice for moderator.

Ive modded before and the ONE huge thing for being a good moderator is being able to keep a cool head and NOT bitch back at the people trying to pick a fight with you.

BTW, same reason Im not applying.

I would be happy to help out as a mod, I am home early every day from work and while I admit I am not the best player here I think the posts I have made have at least had merit and I have had at least one insult thrown at me and didn't start anything over it. Again I would be glad to help out, but I am not jumping up and down with anticipation either so if someone really wants to do it more than me then give them first shot.

GeoffM 11-01-04 08:57 AM

TP, I have a fairly interesting suggestion for you.

What you should do is have, under hand discussion, a board for different games, ie holdem, omaha, o8b, to better organize that section. You may then have a moderator for each of those boards, such as ChipFish doing the holdem section, I do the O8B section or whatever, you get the idea. I think people new to the site would like to see that those moderating those hand discussion threads are "experts" of that game.

Talking Poker 11-01-04 12:26 PM

Decent idea. For now though, I just want someone to generally help out from top to bottom - not just in the Hand History sections.

Thanks for volunteering, guys. It's time to vote:
