Norm v. Norm

Norman Chad or Norm Macdonald, who would you rather spend your TV poker time with?

Who is funnier?
Who's a better player? (yes, I know Chad has cashed in a WSOP event and Norm M hasn't)

Discuss.

I really don't like Macdonald on HSP. I'm not sure why, but I just can't stand his voice and his pattern of talking during the hands.

For some reason, AJ Benza and Gabe Kaplan just work for me. I really like those HSP shows.

Norman Chad is ok, but he seems to have a stable of 4 jokes that he drives in to the ground during WS poker shows.

I agree with GT. Norm Macdonald sounds annoying. Chad is pretty good but I get tired of the same marriage jokes etc... Gabe is funnier and better at poker. To be fair Gabe rambles on too long sometimes but overall him and AJ were a better fit for HSP.

I have no idea who the better player is between the Norms. I have no knowledge of their play except for a few hands on WSOP with MacDonald.

I adore Norm MacDonald, but he is pretty disapointing doing solo commentary. If you've ever seen him do interviews on talk shows, he is pretty much the nuts. Give him some lead commentator to joust him into some humurous analysis, and he would do much much better.

Norm Chad analysis isn't funny, relevant or insightful in any way to me.

When I said "Chad is pretty good" I meant for entertainment value when watching TV poker. I'm not expecting solid analysis when I listen to Chad discuss a hand earnestly. To be fair he has improved his knowledge of the game leaps and bounds from his earlier days. To be real he's an amature in every sense of the form.

I think Macdonald is getting better as time goes on, even though I still miss Gabe.

Yet I think Chad is EXACTLY what you want in poker commentary. Yes, the shtick is getting old - but to be truthful, 9 years is a long time to keep fresh. You want amateurish commentary to make people think its an easy game.

His job is NOT to be a poker expert. His job is to attract the average person to watch ESPN's coverage.

And he does have a WSOP cash - 32nd in the $1,500 Stud/8 in 2009.
