Ftp + Cr = :(

So, I see Full Tilt has signed the Card Runners pros now, and are even doing "video tips." I think this sucks and I hope it's just a one time thing.

I'm all for training sites being out there (because the average player is too lazy to seek them out or to benefit from them), but when a poker site teams up with them and basically says, "Hey donkeys - Make sure you check out these really great training aids" to their entire player base, I think that's bad for the game. I guess time will tell.

FWIW, I think FT would have been much, much, much better off simply making their own video tips from well known pros.

For those that dont know....FTP will allow the CRunner pros to login with another ID to film sessions (as to not affect regular play - eg. players specifically going out of their way to play them).

After they are done with the video, the FTP sends out emails to all players they played and gives a *token* of appreciation. I dont know what that is....probably T$.

Way to go full tilt, educating players!! This is a wonderful way to lose a TON of buisness. I really hope they don't promote this too hard. I would much rather had them sign players like professor77 and bucklox to a instructional video deal.

Since I only read this forum, someone please tell me how the rest of the poker world is reacting to this. I have to think they are going to be getting a pretty negative response.

herschelw 03-17-08 03:21 PM

I havent seen too much backlash. One thread on pocketfives freaking out about CR pros being able to play on unknown accounts to do videos. I dont read 2+2 much so idk about there.

Fildy 03-17-08 04:34 PM

Sign this good, he seems excellent LOL at 2:30

PShabi 03-17-08 05:03 PM

Fildy,

That was someone trying to make a joke, but they weren't really successful at it.

Fildy 03-17-08 05:08 PM

I know he wasn't playing serious, and fwiw I think some of the stuff he does/says is funny, whats even funnier is that there are undoubtedly people who listen/watch that and go "oh hmmm twilight strat, i should try that"

Windbreaker 03-17-08 05:23 PM

2+2....very long thread there. Lots of complaining and worthless posts. A lot of people don't like it either...others don't care.

Looks like players on pro tables get back all money they've lost directly to the pro, as per the post below:

Full Tilt will be making an exception to their “one account per player” policy for Cardrunners pros with the following stipulations:

-The "alternate" account will only be used for the creation of educational video content.
-At the end of every recorded session (on an alternate account), every player that played with the CR pro will be notified via email to explain what happened. In addition, they will be given a small token of appreciation (most likely FTP points) for their participation.
-Anyone who loses money directly to the CardRunners pro will be given additional compensation for their loss.

PShabi 03-17-08 05:34 PM

I wouldn't be shocked, but I'd be surprised to see a full reimbursemnt of cash. I don't like this at all though.

If you were an unknowing fish and got an email all of a sudden from FTP stating that I was playing against a pro who was filming a tutorial for other wanna be pros, how would you react?

Bad? Yes, but it's not going to "kill" what's left of the games. It sure ain't gonna help either!

Wes 03-18-08 12:38 AM

Pretty much every NLHE video except CTS is terrible on there anyway. Deucescracked and leggopoker put out way better NLHE videos.

I cancelled my subscription to Cardrunners and cashed out all my money from FTP because this is a terrible decision, especially FTP as this decision is extremely clueless and serves no purpose for them other than backlash.

New Guy 03-18-08 05:04 AM

I think im gone too!!

Talking Poker 03-18-08 09:12 AM

I understand being upset about this to some degree (I did start this thread), but cashing out and leaving the site forever because of it? That seems a bit extreme, don't you think?

I think the CR guys just found a goldmine of free advertising, but I honestly don't think it's going to change the games THAT MUCH. I mean, do you guys really think you won't be able to beat the games any more or that your win rate will drop significantly because of this?

I'm more disappointed that FT would do this than anything... but I'm not afraid to the point that I'm running for the hills.

New Guy 03-18-08 01:30 PM

I just think the lack of thought by FT that this may be not a great thing for its local players isnt cool. But your right i guess. Not leaving because im scared just thought about it cause ft are jerks!

Wes 03-18-08 02:27 PM

Full Tilt has always been exceptionally terrible regarding customers. Awful support, abysmal software, and a marketing campaign that only will help themselves make a couple hundred thousand. Fuck them. Everyone should go play elsewhere.

Fildy 03-18-08 02:39 PM

but the rakeback, oh lord the rakeback

Talking Poker 03-18-08 03:55 PM

This is definitely the most disappointed I have been with Full Tilt to date - not counting the open issue I have with them where I have exactly ONE HU SNG freeze on their site and I am waiting for them to return my buy in... but I'm still pretty pissed at Stars too.

Despite their poor decisions and sub-par support, with RB and FTS, etc, FT is still my site of choice.

Invigilator 03-18-08 07:59 PM

This is PR idiocy, but I am not worried about the impact on the game. You can lead a horse to water, blah blah blah.

Robbie Robb 03-18-08 10:45 PM

Exactly. Didn't Stars launch some type of poker school online in Germany or something and everyone cried out that it was the end of Stars. The fish aren't going to learn from these videos. The few that do watch them will probably try to pull some of the fancy plays WAY beyond their level and just end up reloading off their Visa even quicker. :)

Wes 03-19-08 12:33 AM

This is way worse because now when the fish get stacked by Brian Townsend, Full Tilt will send them an e-mail saying that $200 has been returned to their account because they were in a video at cardunners.com by him.

PShabi 03-19-08 12:38 AM

Yep.

Hence, it's fucking dumb and there isn't one GOOD quality about the whole thing. Get it guys?

Talking Poker 03-19-08 12:58 AM

Well, it's good for CR. I honestly can't believe they were able to talk FT into this. Do they really think the "value added" to their site by having the occasional CR video as a "Tip of the Week" or whatever they plan to do is going to make up for all the negative response they are going to get from their regulars?

Brilliant play by CR. Complete stupidity by FT.
