NFL Week 9

Well, we have not won a week yet, but we are in the log jam for the top 2 spots. Some 4 players have 77 points and my 'A' list sheet is tied for second with 75 points. There is a portion of each weeks winnings that is put forth for a top prize at the end of the year, so things still look very good. If we take down the top prize, ALL of that goes to a TP tournament.

Da picks....

Tough picks this week. Seriously. I am very not confident in my picks (which are probably mostly underdogs).

juiCe[3x] 11-01-07 12:35 AM

I'm leaning towards IND which I probably will pick but I think it will be a close game.

Talking Poker 11-01-07 12:37 AM

I hope it will be a close game, since this could be one of the best games any of us has ever seen. If it's not though, it's because NE is going to win by like 2-3 TDs.

juiCe[3x] 11-01-07 01:07 AM

I just can't wait to see some defensive player play through the whistle on one of these running up the score games and take Brady out for the season.

I mean not to want anyone to get harmed but you know its going to happen if they are goign to keep running the score up.

Talking Poker 11-01-07 01:10 AM

Running the score up? What are you talking about?

Are you saying you don't go for it 4th and 1 on the 5 yard line when you're only up 38-0 in the 4th quarter? You kick a field goal there??? Yeah, right... likely story.

juiCe[3x] 11-01-07 01:16 AM

Well duhhh I always go for it in Madden 08 - gotta pad the stat sheet baby. They always can come back, I mean they haven't scored the whole game but who knows maybe they get 50 points in the 4th quarter.

I think I will do that for next year. I'd have to start scoring each persons predictions. I don't reAlly follow football as a rule. The only game I have watched other than the superbowl in the last 2 years was that MNF game where We could have won the weekly pool. Even then I was flipping back and forth bewteen the game and High Stakes Poker.

Meh. You just want old fart Brett to have a clean shot at another ring. ;)

Besides, in case anybody there is really as clueless about NFL reality as all this talk seems to indicate...

EVERY team is trying to injure EVERY opponent's starting QB from the first play of the game in EVERY game.

You do know that it is standard practice for the defensive players to put money in a pool each week and the player who knocks the opposing QB out of the game without incurring a penalty wins the cash, right?

It's the NFL, it's pretty hard for them to get nastier than they are already.

Canadians. Probably too busy watching curling, eh?

Talking Poker 11-01-07 02:24 PM

They certainly do love their brooms!!!

(Lamest... sport... ever! Except for SOLO synchronized swimming, of course)

eejit101 11-01-07 03:19 PM

what about dressage

juiCe[3x] 11-01-07 04:32 PM

I mean like play over and done with maybe even 5 seconds after whistle and BOOM down goes Brady GG. I don't see that every week.

Invigilator 11-01-07 05:41 PM

I've played twice. It's a fun game for a party (add alcohol). Never could stand to watch it though.

Invigilator 11-01-07 06:51 PM

Are you picking cleavand and seattle to TIE?

Kurn 11-01-07 07:26 PM

No matter how mean these guys are, no matter how pissed off they might get, I doubt you'll see a player do something that would clearly lead to the immediate end of his own career.

To continue, though. The last tiebreaker in determining home field advantage is total point differential. The Redskins game was 24-0 at the half. You can't honestly suggest sitting Brady after only a half. That's stupid for 2 reasons

1) 24-0 is not insurmountable in the NFL
2) The last thing you want to do is get your starters used to playing less than a full game.

The Pats took the opening kickoff of the 2nd half and ran 8 minutes off the clock scoring their next TD. They scored 3 TDs after that. One was a short field after a strip sack, and another was by Cassell, who after being pulled after one series and a pick-6 the week before, came in with something to prove. Are players supposed to stop playing hard because they have a big lead?

No such thing as "running up the score."

juiCe[3x] 11-01-07 07:36 PM

So going for it on 4th down and having a 35-0 lead and having Brady sneak it yah not running it up at all. I'm not saying its bad just stupid to have Brady do a sneak. I couldn't care less how much points the Yankees , i mean Patriots score.

sry, CLE ftw

Kurn 11-02-07 01:34 PM

In that situation, kicking a field goal would usually be considered bad form. Running a play action pass would seem like rubbing their noses in it. Running ap lay that usually gets a fraction of a yard to me seems like trying to avoid rubbing it in.

The conventional wisdom up here is that Belichick *was* trying to infuriate the Redskins so they'd take it out on this week's opponent - the Jets. :D

jdiana86 11-02-07 01:57 PM

week 9 already?

I think Indy will pull off the upset...i dont know if ill bet on it either, but if i do it will be a tough call whether or not to take the points:cheers:
