So I'll start with acknowledging that is some ridiculously bad luck. And losing that kind of cash with such a premium hand just completely sucks. And by the third time it happened, anybody would be incredibly frustrated.

That being the case …

How often should you make the call of an all-in check raise on the turn with "just" top pair when there’s a one-card straight out there? (We’ll put his actual holding aside as bad luck)

Is it reasonable to find a fold here, or since that would leave you with $660 and the pot the size it is, do you have to call every time in Heads Up?

First, please note that this wasn't cash. Each of these were HU SNGs. Cash pays differently.

That said, he's pretty much never going to show up with a 5 here. I won't say "never," but "very rarely." Had he played it differently, I might be more worried, but in this spot, I think I'm ahead of his range a huge majority of the time.

And I didn't have top pair - I had a big overpair. To answer your question, I don't think I'm ever laying down KK here. He's going to show up with worse hands (A2/A4/A6 would be the most common, if I had to guess) and random bluffs a lot of the time.

You could make a decent case for checking the turn though, and that changes things, but I think I'm still getting it all in.

Are you saying villain never has a 5 never because they are letting it go on the flop if it is a random 5 and raising with 75? What about something like A5? I am just asking the thought process.

I never said never, for starters.

But usually he smooth calls on the turn to allow me to bet again on the river.

This is not a hard and fast rule or anything, but that's how I see most people play it most of the time (and how I would play it in position like this). Especially with 75. 55 and 65 and even A5 are more likely, but still, all of those hands combined make up a small percentage of his range, IMO.

Sometimes I'll run into a set (22, 44 most likely) or two pair here, but usually those guys are happy to get to showdown and don't turn their hands into bluffs like this guy did. (Yes, I know I called him with a worse hand, but that really only happens when I have exactly an overpair)

Yea ur right, but I would check the turn, since villian call from button (weak hand or traping and he didnt 3Bet so weak hand obv.)PF having small PP (trips), 2/pair and straight draw more often in the stakes I play.With that shove I guess I would fold (not being results oriented) knowing that i am dominated. and you can try getting back ingame with 800 and its not turbo.

Checking the turn is the better play.

But as played, I would have only had 660 chips left if I folded, not 800. It's certainly not impossible to come back from that, but I still think my hand is good enough of the time (easily, IMO) to justify the call here.

I certainly could be wrong, but that's my take.
