Insane match at Wimbledon

Isner and Mahut tied at 59-59 (that's not a typo) in the 5th set! They just called it due to darkness, meaning that the match will move on to a 3rd day of play and there have been no rain delays! Crazy.

Apparently someone tweeted that the French World Cup team could learn a few things from these guys about not quitting!

This has been an amazing day of sports stories. Of course, the one I'm most interested in is the Marlins firing Fredi Gonzalez.

I must say, though, go Georgia Bulldogs! Isner FTW.

Hey RD, I meant to log on the other day and ask you if there was any chance of shenanigans during the Federer opening round match. it seemed so weird the way that one played out.

I didn't get to see it... what was weird other than Federer losing the first 2 sets?

melioris 06-23-10 11:10 PM

I only saw the highlights and set score. I'm not suggesting anything other than the Fed looked so bad in the first 2.5 sets and then got increasingly better in the 3rd and 4th to the point where he was the old Fed in the 5th. The first thing that came to mind was damn, I bet a shitload of money changed hands during that match.

OMG this is crazy. Can't believe I've missed this.

No chance of shenanigans by Federer, especially at Wimbledon, imo. Massive risk vs tiny marginal reward.

The funny thing with the Isner match is that the winner had/has to play Thiemo de Bakker who happens to be the guy i support.. HE has to go to 16-14 in the 5th set so everyone thought he would be tired for his match with Isner...
lol.. and to imagine that AFTER the 70-68 victory by Isner he had a Doubles match scheduled with Sam Quarry (ranked 12 together)....
hope he is sooo tired he cant lift a foot against Thiemo
