Ughh

Made it to the final step of a WSOP qualifier, winner gets a seat. 298 in the tourny. Got AWFUL cards.......best hands I saw were a 77 (when i was up against 99 and lost a pot) k10s, 10,9s, and A2s yea....no joke those were my 4 best hands.....so i was a bit under the average and get dealt a K7 of hearts in the BB... No raise so I see a flop for free. Flop lands 2,6,7. Small blind leads out with 4x BB (pot sized bet), I push all in being fairly short stacked (about a raise of 4x the original bet) The UTG calls, the SB folds. I flip my K7 he flips a duece 5 off (yes he called UTG with duece five.) The funniest thing is a friend who was watchin me said u want a call here....im like no i dont...hes like what if he has a duece.....im like i still dont want a call....he flips over the duece and we laugh.....no duece no 5 no duece no 5........turn is a 5......finish in 98th place....i didnt play great the whole tourny...but being knocked out when a 5 2 was played UTG........im sorry that pisses me off. And i dont think i could of done anything else this hand....Ill be back around for another qualfiier.......

If you are serious about trying to qualify for the WSOP, there are MUCH better ways of doing it,and still cheaply.
1 in 298 is an awful structure. Was this a FPP tourney or something?
I wouldn't even bother with that many.

Talking Poker 04-19-05 11:29 AM

This brings up an interesting question............ what do you think is the best way to qualify - for a reasonable buy-in, of course?

Zybomb 04-19-05 12:27 PM

Yea FPP, i won a smaller tourny to get into this larger one... and obviously there are much better ways to qualify......i was more playing this tourny for fun and the possibility of what if.... i decided to go out to the bars afterwards and grumbled about my loss, came come a bit drunk and decided to write about it lol (hence my wrong placement of the topic)

Yea Im interested in hearin what people have to say on this also....

That's one thing I don't like about Full Tilt, too many of their 'points' tourneys are winner-take-all. Though I did score in one of their 'top 9 get a satellite token' ones.

ChipFish 04-20-05 03:18 AM

I'm glad you asked.

PokerStars.
Small cash satellites.
$2 Rebuys to the $33 satelite. and $5 rebuys to the Doubleshootout.
Immediately unregister when you gain win a seat.
Start stacking your W$ until you are ready to take 5 shots at the $640.

Or buy in to the
$80 satellite to the $640 main event.

There is another site out there (might even be FullTilt, can't remember that is guaranteeing 30 seats.... That will be a good tournament.

In my opinion it is silly to play in a WSOP Sat where only 1 seat is given away.
E.g. the $100+9 you will find on most sites...
I think UB does a $300+20 or something like that, which may be worth entering though. (And you CAN use 3 Entry chips, just e-mail support)

Talking Poker 04-20-05 03:33 AM

Interesting Chip.... very interesting.

Full Tilt is the one running the 30 seat guarantee. I think I'm going to have to take a crack at that one.

Are you doing any of this? Are you going to take 5 shots at the $640, for example? Or is this just your advice for others?

kkirk1329 04-20-05 06:47 AM

on RGP they set up a tourney where you send 30$ to these 2 guys and you had 11$ for the buy in, and since there was 50 people a 1500$ event could be given away so once you won, you won the 11$ buy ins and a event of your choice that they registered for you. Not bad, 40$

omahilo 04-20-05 11:21 AM

Chip and TP... or anyone really.

Are you guys going to play any of the FTP sats for the $1500 events? I was wondering how those are.

ChipFish 04-20-05 12:59 PM

Nope, No WSOP for Chippy Fish, :(
I can;t get the time off work....
Interestingly enough (and kind of like a kick in the face.), I am off as of July 18th for 3 weeks. If they could only have moved the shutdown "back" 3 weeks.
:(

Talking Poker 04-20-05 01:47 PM

I actually haven't looked into it AT ALL yet, but I probably will... sure.

ChipFish 04-21-05 01:05 AM

Hmmmmm.
Maybe I should look into that for a weekend event.
Fly in, play in a Weekender, Fly home...
Not as much fun as I'd like, but, hmmmmmmm.
