Stars to be acquired?

Along with Empire’s purchase of Noble, it looks like we are in for some consolidation.

I'll be very interested to see how this all shakes out over the next few years... especially if and when the U.S. government decides to intervene.

wut the hell are we gonna do when this stuff becomes illegal ?

Talking Poker 08-24-05 12:05 AM

Break the law.

Or move.

JDMcNugent7 08-24-05 12:07 AM

seriously u know how many people are going to be devestated by this if online poker is illegal soon ?

johnp158 08-24-05 01:58 AM

Don't you mean, "What are we gonna do if online poker becomes legal, and they start taxing it?"

ChipFish 08-24-05 02:27 AM

THAT should be what scares you Americans.

Talking Poker 08-24-05 02:28 AM

I've thought about this, and I would give serious thought to having a dual-residency somewhere...

ChipFish 08-24-05 03:14 AM

Oh boy!
Are we going to have Sleepovers? :D  :D

No promises, but Canada does make my short list.

I also have family in England, and I'd love to buy a place in the Caribbean. Maybe I'll find a nice shack with a high speed internet connection in Aruba while I'm done there.

Seriously though, there are a number of countries where poker winnings aren't taxed at all. It sure would be nice to be from one of those countries when it comes time to collect on some huge tourney payout. I have to think this is easier said than done though, and probably not worth the headache, unless you really are willing to get up and relocate full time.

The latest on this ...

"The U.S. government has less than a year to clarify its rules about offshore Internet gambling, a World Trade Organization arbitrator has ruled.

The 31-page ruling issued late last week, makes April 3, 2006, the deadline by which the United States must ensure that its existing gambling laws don't discriminate against companies housed in Antigua and Barbuda."

Of course, if US residents can't play online, even if you move to somewhere where you can, you'll be playing against a very small fraction of the fish currently available.

Talking Poker 08-24-05 01:36 PM

Honestly, I think it would be a HUGE mistake for the U.S. to outlaw online poker/gambling. Like I said, it will be interesting to see how this all shakes out though.

I don't think soooo many loopholes can be danced around in such a short period of time.

Penguinfan 08-24-05 02:28 PM

Or God forbid, legalize it and take the tax money to lower gasoline prices/taxes.

Wait, what am I saying, that would require the fucknuts in charge to do something right and we all know that isn't gonna happen.
