Moneymaker and Fishman at final table

wow I just logged in today and saw that both Chris and Fishman made final table last night. Anyone watch this?

talking wcoop of course.

Talking Poker 09-16-05 12:54 PM

Wow, that's crazy. I completely missed it. I see they finished 2nd and 3rd, and it looks like no deal was made.

I would have enjoyed railing that....

jillaj 09-16-05 01:43 PM

The guy who won wanted to make a deal but Chis and Scott declined. Chris had the chip lead for pretty much the whole time. Bunsen was all in a few times but battled back. It was fun to watch.

Aequitas58 09-16-05 02:01 PM

When it was heads up, there was a point when Fischman had nearly a 3-1 lead in the money. (Actually, it was closer to 2.5-1, but whatever.) I didn't stick around, but he looked totally in control.

I'm glad the other guy won it. :)

Talking Poker 09-16-05 02:17 PM

Nah, I like Scott. He's a good guy. And a hell of a poker player too.

This is very impressive

For a pro widely considered (including by me) to more famous and less skilled than much of his competition, this is another impressive finish for Moneymaker.

Anyone know what kind of deal Stars has with their pros for these kind of events? Do Fishman and Moneymaker have to pay $500 + 30 like everybody else, or do they get free entries in exchange for endorsements, etc?

jillaj 09-16-05 05:44 PM

I am sure Raymer and Moneymaker got a buy in to each event from Pokerstars. I imagine the more pro's the better for stars.

Talking Poker 09-16-05 11:10 PM

I believe these two and only these two do, but I am not certain.

eejit101 09-17-05 12:50 AM

My opinion, if it matters, I never liked moneymaker. yeah he sparked the "boom" and whatever, but he got lucky to win, i havent seen him win anything since then, ive seen him on TV several times, making stupid moves, even i picked up tells on him FFS, i dont rate him, make stars make him pay the entry, he got lucky to finish that high anyway, i saw a monstrous bad beat he had, rivered a King or something, he had 2 outs, to stay in.

jillaj 09-17-05 02:45 AM

Didn't Moneymaker take down another big tournament like a WPT event. It could just be bad memory though.

Aequitas58 09-17-05 02:48 AM

I heard that all of "Team Pokerstars" gets free buy-ins.

Greg Raymer, Chris Moneymaker, Evelyn Ng, and Wil Wheaton (<-- lol).

jillaj 09-17-05 02:52 AM

eejit101 09-17-05 03:31 AM

He plays poker everyday, he has recorded 4 finished in 3 years, out of say, 200 tourneys? he is da man!!!

SirFWALGMan 09-17-05 08:10 AM

Winner!

2.5 Million is all that matters!

Talking Poker 09-17-05 05:33 PM

He didn't get very much of that.

I heard he sold off 50% (?) of himself after winning his seat. Then factor in taxes. Then factor in his wife getting half when they split up.

I'm guessing he took home maybe $400,000 or so when all was said and done.

eejit101 09-17-05 06:39 PM

how do u mean??

Talking Poker 09-17-05 07:01 PM

What do you mean, how do I mean?

Aequitas58 09-17-05 07:19 PM

He's a newbie. He doesn't understand.

Talking Poker 09-17-05 07:47 PM

I don't know the numbers, but for pretend sake:

Chris won a $40 satellite to get a $10,000 WSOP main event seat. Rather than risk going home with nothing (I heard he didn't even have the money t oget there at the time), he sold 50% of himself to friends/family/whoever for $5000. In doing so, he agreed to pay out 50% of his winnings to the buyers.

Again, I do not know the accuracy of any of the above numbers, but hopefully you get the idea.

BrianSwa 09-17-05 09:43 PM

K

from what fossilman said at his table during the rebuy.
pokerstars paid the entry fee but he had to buy all his add-ons and rebuys, so yes they got paid entry's.

As for how good chris is, he is better then me and better then alot of people on here. When you say you made the final table of a WSOP then come talk to me. Yes TP you can talk, I dont care what anyone says about him he is good enough to take down the main event. Sure he got lucky at times but who can say they won the main event without getting lucky?

eejit101 09-17-05 09:57 PM

Thanx TP, thats why i meant, thanx.

Thats not my point brian. Take the winners of the main event up to date.

Doyle Brunson - genius
Johnny Chan - still going strong
Scotty Ng - also still going
even fossilman has had more places than moneymaker

All im saying is that he is the worst player to win it so far.

Talking Poker 09-17-05 10:18 PM

I don't think Chris would even argue with this (although one could make an argument for Robert Varkonyi). Chris is a lot better now than he was when he won, and he'll be the first to admit it.

BrianSwa 09-17-05 10:21 PM

yes

I never said he was the greatest player just dont like people saying he is terrible. It took alot to get where he is today.

eejit101 09-17-05 11:50 PM

ok, ill give you that hes better than before. But look at poker superstars, did he place? no. look at MvsF game, did he place? no! look at WPT tourneys, he plays them all, does he win? no!

Talking Poker 09-17-05 11:55 PM

Do you think Phil Hellmuth is a good poker player? How many cashes has he had since Chris won the 2003 WSOP? Not that many come to mind...
