Poker Books
Alrite heres the deal. I have about 300 dollars canadian in unused amazon.ca giftcards. My plan is to buy as many poker books as I can with that money and then spend the rest on dvds and some other books Im interested in. So this thread is all about your recommendations of good books.
Some background info: I am an O8 cash game player at heart, but also play some LHE and would like to improve in that respect. My hidden passion is NLHE tourneys however. I love 4 tabling sngs when there isnt any bonuses to clear with O8. I cant seem to have consistent success in the big MTTs though and would like to get a better strategy for these. Books I have read: Super System 2 The Complete Book of Holdem Poker by Gary Carson .......that is all.....shameful i know :o Books already in my cart: HOH I&II (for my tourney game, best books out there from what I hear) Small Stakes Holdem (big favourite of EVERYONE EVER) Winning Low Limit Holdem by Lee Jones (Rec. by Lord Admirals podcast) The Theory of Poker by Sklansky (more advanced, will save for last) Ok guys, now the rest is up to you. I know there really arent any O8 books at all, but maybe Geoff knows of a good one? Anything thats really helped someone with their game and why it has would be appreciated. Thanks alot. |
Cloutier & McEvoy "Winning Championship pot-limit and no-limit holdem" is my personal favorite
|
Thanks Defendant.
Ive also heard good things about that book. Added to cart. |
Winning Omaha 8 Poker by Mark Tenner & Lou Krieger.
|
Is that book even out yet? I heard an interview with Lou Kieger a couple weeks ago and I think I remember him saying it would be out soon. Nothings coming up for it on Amazon though.
|
Nevermind, found it, Im dumb.
Carry on. |
lol was going to say that I own the book.
|
Small Stakes Hold 'em
|
He already has it in his cart.
|
Tournament Poker for Advanced Players by Sklansky
Harrington on Hold Em |
Just got finished reading Harrington On Hold'em last night actually, good book, i liked it more than Super System 2. My new book is Small Stakes Hold ' em. It seems good as well, and a bit more advanced than harringtons.
|
This is suh a good start, I'm tempted to not add anything... but.... why not round off your selections with some less strategic books, like (not sure of the exact names):
Zen and the Art of Poker The Psychology of Poker |
Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I added everything you all suggested and am pretty close to my total. I also got some Tolkien books, but thats for my nerd side, not my poker side :D .
Im going to wait till this weekend to put the order through, in case anyone else has some more suggestions. |
I would second (and third or fouth for SSHE) these two...
BTW, have you read any O8B books? I was thinking of picking the Ray Zee book myself... |
Whatever.
Know-it-all. :D |
On a similar note, I really enjoyed the Doyle Brunson "story" book. What the hell is it called?
Anyway, it's a great book for the shitter. Little 3/4 page anecdotes that are really entertaining and offer some practical advice. |
ray zee's o8/s8 book is pretty good.
some of the stuff seems really simplistic when you first read it, but all of the information is very good. it definitely takes a ouple of deep reads to understand all of the information there. you might want to add some of the non-strategy related poker/gambling books as well. bringing down the house, the biggest game in town, and positively fifth street are all worth reading. there is also a new book out by the author of bringing down the house (mezrich), but i havent read it yet so i cant really give a review. |
Likewise.
|
"Poker Wisdom of a Champion" (Formerly entitled "According to Doyle") I agree it has some pretty good stories in there... like the one about the guy that had all those pockets all over his clothes and ripped one off every time he saw a good hand he liked |
all i can tell you isthat ive read about 9 books to date and the only one which really caught my eye is dan harringtons!
